is Tulsi Gabbard really in the "shame" category though? this is supposed to be for evildoers, dictators and/or republicans and/or UKIP and/or people who put pineapple on pizzas, not just someone in the news that you fancy.

thomasintrouble, Thursday, 14 March 2019 09:21 (seven years ago)

the shameful part is built into the ws nowadays i think

she reminds me of the girl from the Slender Man stabbing.

the whole lookin cute and guilty in court thing really gets me

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 29 April 2019 19:58 (seven years ago)

she's had very nice outfits

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 29 April 2019 20:07 (seven years ago)

yeah, there seems to be a whole raft of articles just about her courtroom fashion

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 29 April 2019 20:11 (seven years ago)

and i am here for it

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 29 April 2019 20:14 (seven years ago)

i don't think she did anything that bad really

Trϵϵship, Monday, 29 April 2019 20:25 (seven years ago)

she was scamming other social climbers, trying to leverage an appearance of wealth into the real thing. this is how a lot of things in new york seem to work anyway.

Trϵϵship, Monday, 29 April 2019 20:30 (seven years ago)

yes, i agree, free anna

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 29 April 2019 20:31 (seven years ago)

well she defrauded people out of like $300,000, but I agree it's not the most tear-jerking crime to see the uber-wealthy defrauded

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 29 April 2019 20:36 (seven years ago)

i think she did stick one of her non-wealthy friends with a 65k bill for a vacation to morocco. that's bad behavior. but overall, reading about her, she seems to have been kind of reckless and delusional more than malicious. her instagram account is so joyless too--it makes me think she wasn't even that in love with the lifestyle she was risking everything to fake. a gatsby for an age of extreme disillusionment.

Trϵϵship, Monday, 29 April 2019 20:40 (seven years ago)

idk. something about her story seems really bleak to me. she is like the soundcloud rap of scam artists.

Trϵϵship, Monday, 29 April 2019 20:47 (seven years ago)

there's something a bit dead-inside about her expressions, or maybe just affectless. The other people are laughing and she's barely smirking etc

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 29 April 2019 20:50 (seven years ago)

That’s how she comes across to me. Which makes the gleeful anticipation of the netflix series about her or whatever seem so odd. Are people actually that interested in this banal “rich kids of instagram” kind of lifestyle?

Trϵϵship, Monday, 29 April 2019 20:56 (seven years ago)

like she spent most of her time hanging out in a hotel lobby

(•̪●) (carne asada), Monday, 29 April 2019 20:59 (seven years ago)

Also it frustrates me, given her proximity to the art world, that her legal defense isn’t trying to claim this was an art project exploring the credulity of self-described “philanthropists” using the medium of crime. Like come on anna

Trϵϵship, Monday, 29 April 2019 21:00 (seven years ago)

she seems genuinely interested in form and minimalism beyond just projecting an image and has a good eye

I imagine it will be somewhat similar to the fyre festival doc in this regard, which was ok but ultimately unsatisfying, because haha these people are all assholes, but, otoh, they're all assholes. And the payoff is not that big. Rich instagram assholes didn't get lured onto an island and turn into lord of the flies, they just had a shitty day. And this woman just bilked a few people and was a little faker than the rest of the fakers.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 29 April 2019 21:18 (seven years ago)

yeah, well put.

I'm catholic. it's all shame, baby

findom haddie (jim in vancouver), Monday, 29 April 2019 22:42 (seven years ago)

She looks determined... without being ruthless. There's something heroic about her. She doesn't look like a scammer. She comes across so calm... acts like she has a dream... eyes full of passion.

"I am familiar with that. And, so, that's more my mom's thing. She's a little fringe. I try to uh, I just try to keep things on track and positive. I am very familiar with it though," she said. "Everything I heard of Q -- I hope that this is real because it only means America is getting stronger and better, and people are returning to conservative values, and that's what I am for," she said.

QAnon, she said, "is only motivating and encouraging and bringing people together, stronger, and if this is real, then it could be really great for our country."
