Excuses, excuses

I have been out getting smashed. Awfully, awfully smashed. I have used the rain interrupted conclusion of the Lord's test, and the aching lack of closure thereof, as an excuse to go out. Depending on who I talk to I have also been celebrating the arrival of a particular newborn. I was at one point, now I just don't know any more. Last night I used the sheer weight of guilt brought on by failing to offset my walk to the newsagents.

Your excuses, gentlepeople?

(to clarify "who I talk to" = anyone who isn't aware that I raised a variety of glasses for that reason already on friday, and then on saturday so possibly wearing the reason out a little)

(not mine, mine's not appearing for a couple of months yet, and I doubt I'd get away with spending the first four days of its life drunk, I refer you to ILE's parenting thread as to whose parenthood I have been using as an excuse)

Anyway excuses, excuses. It's all gone quiet. Is this due to SHAME?

Excuse? Whatever for?

To start a thread.

And to justify incipient dipsomania.

Incipient!? You fraud! I thought you'd been a longtime inveterate toper.

Les rôdeurs de la nuit

Quand le bourgeois dort,
Il fait soif encore,
Passons la nuit à boire !
La rue est toute noire ;
Mais les vitraux des boulevards
Sont en feu, comme des regards.
Atmosphère enflammée,
Filles dans la fumée,
Eau-de-vie et bruit,
Voilà notre nuit !

Boire est le vrai bien !
Après, il n’est rien !
Rien, sinon boire encore,
En attendant l’aurore !

one month passes...

Now that Matt has, by means of indirection, reproduced himself, it is time for him to lay in a good supply of paregoric. It has 1001 uses, most of which are exactly the same.

Congrats on reproductive success

two weeks pass...

There's nothing that a good slug of camphorated tincture of opium can't fix. Except perhaps the door to my shed.

You should give it a try, at least.

I fashion tiny wagons out of old bottlecaps and matchboxes for my slugs to haul salt around. The ridges on the bottlecaps vibrate the wagons causing the salt to spill out onto the ground. Any subsequent slugs that happen along behind the wagon crawl thru the salt and turn into a wriggling foamy gelatinous blob.

You should have seen it the day that the ladybugs attacked and the slugs circled the wagons......

My current secret project is a tow rope harness for the Grackles and tiny water skis for the mice. Ought to be a HOOT!
