never had a geiger counter in my hands, but ive been curious for a while. i may have overfilled my insanobox quotient with dwarfcraft/devi/idiotbox at this point but its definitely on my radar.

Might be time to actually start an online store I think.

I would buy from the jjusten store too.

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 12 May 2014 22:30 (ten years ago) link

Hey just for my sanitys sake - tons of dudes asking me to contact Diamond Pedals. I hate to be this guy, but they look boring as hell - that isn't a deal breaker, but is there something cool there that I am missing, or is this the new flavor of praise and worship guitar dudes or something.

Geiger Counter by WMD devices? My treat to myself turned up this weekend and I broke it out a couple of hours ago. It's... quite something. I'm not 100% it's much use to anybody except the extreme noise crowd (which was why I wanted one)

went to their page and listened to the samples and holy shit that is awesome

Out of curiosity, have you contacted http://www.acidfuzz.com ?

Sorry to peeps getting double loaded thx to my store Facebook feed

I don't think there are any other Chicago people who read this thread but if there are, I went into Rock and Roll Vintage on Lincoln recently and they've done a massive expansion so they're now about three times bigger than they used to be, and they now have a pedal selection that rivals, maybe even surpasses, Chicago Music Exchange. Apparently the expansion was like two years ago so I guess I hadn't been in there in a long time.

Excuse me, "Rock N Roll Vintage"

Haw. I love "WEIRD!"

how's life, Thursday, 22 May 2014 18:19 (nine years ago) link

that is a crazy impressive number of pedals

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 18:49 (nine years ago) link

does anybody here make their own pedals? if so, does anyone know a good and reputable place on the web where you can buy these Mitsubishi ICs that show up in nearly every Boss schematic?

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 18:51 (nine years ago) link

What's the ic part number? I've got a ton of parts in stock, and I know people that know people.

M5223AL?

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Thursday, 22 May 2014 18:54 (nine years ago) link

I'm interested in making the tremolo just because it has some cool parts that I have experience with already:

http://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/s/tr2-tremolo.php

So the heart of it is the M5207L01, which is a voltage controlled amplifier IC. But I'd also be interested in the M5218AL low noise op amps, though I expect it's easier to find a substitute for those.

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 19:20 (nine years ago) link

it's hard to even find spec sheets for a lot of these so as to even determine a substitute

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 19:38 (nine years ago) link

(and I do plan to do something cooler than just replicate a boss pedal after. just have to start somewhere.)

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 20:11 (nine years ago) link

So very much want to build a Wobbulator clone that can also handle the Vox-style repeater sound.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 23 May 2014 01:05 (nine years ago) link

woah, that vox repeater effect is nuts

You know, I usually really like when people put their pedals into unconventional housings and that obviously took a lot of work...

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 27 May 2014 19:32 (nine years ago) link

Thanks man! I keep thinking my writing skills could be well suited to pedal reviews, but every guitar gear magazine is horrible and full of garbage.

hmmmmmmmm

c&ping this from the guitar newb thread.

Speaking of reverb, jjusten (or anyone else) how do you like the Dispatch Master? It looks like a nice, simple-to-operate pedal with the added benefit of being two effects. Does it lose anything in its simplicity? How does it stack up against other delay/reverb combos like the Boss RV-5 or whatever?

Oh hi

I think the dispatch master is the best small format verb/delay I've found, but I have heard better verbs and better delays for sure. Great board space solution, but if you are picky about either of those 2 effects (they are both better than or at least parity with average) you might want to look at individual pedals.

Tell me about T. Rex please people

They've made me a pretty awesome incentive offer to hop on board, but I've weirdly never touched a single pedal they make

also, I need to pcik some brains about Caroline Guitar Company, which we briefly talked about up thread

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 20:33 (nine years ago) link

I don't really know anything about them, but lolled at the first search result for T. Rex on guitar geek:

http://www.guitargeek.com/mark-tremonti-creed-guitar-rig-and-gear-setup-2009/

how's life, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 21:22 (nine years ago) link

Yeah the tremonti factor is unsettling.

Became a dealer for old school fx today because they sound good and I was bored. Still think they look kinda meh, but I've heard them in person thx to a local dude with a board full of them, and the price is pretty awesome. Couldn't peel them off and look at the guts, so hopefully I'm not about to be super pissed when the box shows up.

The foo look pretty rub.

Get some white strikers made with appropriate cutouts and you can seek 'design your own pedal' kits, get some stick-on rhinestones and you can do blingee pedals.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 23:34 (nine years ago) link

Caroline makes cool stuff and has a good attitude. Philippe posts on another forum and demonstrates a jjj-friendly philosophy wrt the biz and gear and gear people.

I am curious about their delay but have sworn off purchases for a while.

Looks like the guy sells his pedals through Guitarleys.com (At least youtube indicates that)

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 03:27 (nine years ago) link

Wow. That...wow.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 18 June 2014 14:42 (nine years ago) link

the harmonic decoder is a real obnoxious/uncontrolled beast when used on guitar and i think it probably needs a cv input for best use but i haven't figured that out yet

ledriver, Thursday, 19 June 2014 03:19 (nine years ago) link

not for public release right at the moment, but since i deindexed this, we just confirmed with Caroline.

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 21 June 2014 19:34 (nine years ago) link

ok, Old School FX stuff looks waaaaaaaay better in person. still clearly a "one dude in a garage slip decal" sort of vibe, but very clean work, lacquer over the decal etc. first impressions, everything is good to very good, standouts are the rootless tree, fat penguin and black lung, invisible robot is way weirder than expected, i think i kinda love it, but not the muff variant i was expecting, full of off harmonic whistles and a general impression of being just short of the breaking point. Miss Turpentine is not an earthshaking 2399 based delay, but sounds really pleasing on short settings (better than many) and noises up a bit on long settings, which i tend to like, but not everyone does.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Monday, 23 June 2014 18:40 (nine years ago) link

added bonus: i hear absolutely zero tubescreamer in any of his overdrive stuff. the fat penguin is a snarly little 2 knobber, the rootless tree is a really surprisingly good sounding low gain od with a really nice tone circuit, and the black lung is chunky and mean-spirited, could def hit the non fuzz doom/stoner stuff sweet spot, which is something i dont hear as often as i should.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Monday, 23 June 2014 18:43 (nine years ago) link

ok. another question. who wants to tell me about empress stuff?

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Wednesday, 25 June 2014 23:11 (nine years ago) link

i had their vintage superdelay, great sound, well made, seemed well thought out. i sold it because i found it increasingly less useful for synthesizers with all the racks i've been accumulating but i'd totes recommend it for guitars
