trying to stop my habit of doing nothing but fucking around with downloading plugins and actually recording stuff, this is a one-mic guitar thing, finally got a pretty good quality large diaphragm condenser recommended by my friend who owns a studio as the only "cheap" (relative term) mic that he would consider using in his studio (Shure KSM27, now called just the SM27)

Totally agree, I mostly post things here so I can add the backstory about the insecurities and challenges involved, which I wouldn't post elsewhere. And I enjoy hearing about other people's travails as well.

when i post things it's usually because you all are the only people on earth who i share it with, other than a guy i played in a band with back in high school

i post here when i am feeling nervy, and it's a place i feel safe being heard.

i know that most of the stuff i record is kinda half-baked -- i meant to say it earlier but I like random collaborations. if someone has a weird urge to add something to one of my tracks, please be my guest. they're only me solo because i don't have other people to play with most of the time. :)

This is a thing I've been working on since finishing MENTAL ILLNESS. It came to me really quickly in comparison to MENTAL ILLNESS. Some of the songs on there were literally years old, but all of the spectral projections songs were created after MENTAL ILLNESS. It's been a really liberating process for me to begin and complete something in a matter of a couple weeks that I'm this happy with. I do feel like, as a whole, this is the best thing I've ever done.

I updated a song I posted upthread. Tried re-recording some of the vocals and tweaking a few things. I'm still not 100% sure it's finished and I guess I never will. It's mainly the vocals I have trouble with - I guess they're deliberately incongruous but I still want them to fit in with the track like they do in my mind's eye

Well, first of all, you compared it to actual, "real", professionally made music, which I take as a compliment unto itself; I record in my bedroom, so yeah. And then, you compared it to one of the most influential albums of the past 40 years (in a positive way), which is amazing.

guys, online backup. $5/ month to never have to worry about this happening is dollar-per-value-unit more worth it than any kind of insurance i've ever paid for. for literal decades i never had a hard drive crash that entirely fucked my life up and derailed several ppl's projects/careers... until i did :0 never again!

Or go the opposite route, never connect your computer to the internet and it'll last forever
