They should make a green one with marijuana leaves airbrushed all over and just be done with it.

I never see it brought up much but I think Fender and Gibson's biggest rival is used guitars. There has been just so freaking many guitars made in the last 25 years, I don't see why anyone really needs to buy a new one unless it is something kinda unique.

earlnash, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 02:03 (eleven years ago)

Eh fender and gibsons biggest rival is all the other smaller companies beating them at their game imo.

A million starving geniuses in dusty ateliers all over the world are the rivals for players; new golf clubs are the rival for collectors.

^^^^^ THIS

Pretty sure Fender Japan >> Fender everywhere else right now.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 18:47 (eleven years ago)

i just bought a 50th anniversary squier strat off of craigslist....pretty damn good little guitar from the mid 90s (apparently this particular squier is popular among modders because it used the full sized, dimensions standard strat body not the slightly slimmed down/lighter squier body type and is all alder)

kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 22 April 2015 15:09 (eleven years ago)

The first and to date only vintage Fender I've played that has ever really filled me with desire was an early 80s Japanese Squire Jazz Bass. What a fantastic instrument. They're still cheaper than a new Custom Shop Jazz.

Three Word Username, Wednesday, 22 April 2015 17:49 (eleven years ago)

i've had a mexican mid-90s jazz bass for years and it's great....esp good because i did a affordable swap-out from the cheaper stock bridge to a leo quan badass bridge, which helps a lot and is super easy to do

kurt kobaïan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 22 April 2015 18:32 (eleven years ago)

Fender Japan is no more, apparently

I dunno, without a built-in USB port, or NFL branding, it just doesn't seem true to the Fender aesthetic.

So I recently sold some gear, including 1 gently used Mexican Telecaster and an Epiphone 339 (I still like them fine, but I have many more guitars than I need).

It would seem that Fenders in general hold value remarkably well - paid three hundred something for it, and got two hundred something for it. The Epiphone, not so much.

FENDER IS MAKING AMPS OUT OF WHISKEY BARRELS

I think the correct title for that link would be FENDER IS MAKING $1,900 BLUES JUNIORS. Jesus wept.

whiskey barrels aged in bigger whiskey barrels

They actually almost look cool. If they cost normal blues jr price and didn't have the corny "aged" dial panel I would like them.

fender should make an amp out of Marc Maron's cats

the grimes of claire boucher ('90s on) (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 10 November 2015 18:15 (ten years ago)

They should just stuff all their bad ideas into one amp: a Cyber-Twin made out of the helicopter Stevie Ray Vaughan died in. With multi-tap delay.

If somebody wants to spend $300 on a Tele-style guitar, where should she be looking, any notion?

mick signals, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 21:20 (ten years ago)

For that price you can only get a brand new looking one made out of normal guitar materials, sorry.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Wednesday, 18 November 2015 21:23 (ten years ago)

No problem, there's another $700 earmarked to have it professionally weathered by an aftermarket weatherer with a roofing torch.

mick signals, Wednesday, 18 November 2015 21:29 (ten years ago)

I will always rep for G&L ASAT tribute model. They usually retail closer to 400, but you can find them used closer to 300.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 18:32 (ten years ago)

I guess people have been doing jazzcaster builds for a while(this one looks nice), but coming from Fender it's just like "we have no new, good, or original ideas."

how's life, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 18:36 (ten years ago)

There is also no rhyme or reason to their policy towards the 22nd fret on guitars or basses.

Three Word Username, Wednesday, 27 January 2016 18:44 (ten years ago)

I don't mind the offset Tele but I think it's because it reminds me of the Ibanez Talman I coveted as a teenager.
