does anybody here make their own pedals? if so, does anyone know a good and reputable place on the web where you can buy these Mitsubishi ICs that show up in nearly every Boss schematic?

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 18:51 (twelve years ago)

What's the ic part number? I've got a ton of parts in stock, and I know people that know people.

M5223AL?

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Thursday, 22 May 2014 18:54 (twelve years ago)

I'm interested in making the tremolo just because it has some cool parts that I have experience with already:

http://www.hobby-hour.com/electronics/s/tr2-tremolo.php

So the heart of it is the M5207L01, which is a voltage controlled amplifier IC. But I'd also be interested in the M5218AL low noise op amps, though I expect it's easier to find a substitute for those.

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 19:20 (twelve years ago)

it's hard to even find spec sheets for a lot of these so as to even determine a substitute

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 19:38 (twelve years ago)

(and I do plan to do something cooler than just replicate a boss pedal after. just have to start somewhere.)

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 22 May 2014 20:11 (twelve years ago)

So very much want to build a Wobbulator clone that can also handle the Vox-style repeater sound.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 23 May 2014 01:05 (twelve years ago)

woah, that vox repeater effect is nuts

the glimmer man (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 23 May 2014 01:33 (twelve years ago)

Not sure if this has been posted before, but what the fucking fuck:

You know, I usually really like when people put their pedals into unconventional housings and that obviously took a lot of work...

Your facebook writeups are excellent. I get what they do and you make me want them all.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 27 May 2014 19:32 (twelve years ago)

Thanks man! I keep thinking my writing skills could be well suited to pedal reviews, but every guitar gear magazine is horrible and full of garbage.

c&ping this from the guitar newb thread.

Speaking of reverb, jjusten (or anyone else) how do you like the Dispatch Master? It looks like a nice, simple-to-operate pedal with the added benefit of being two effects. Does it lose anything in its simplicity? How does it stack up against other delay/reverb combos like the Boss RV-5 or whatever?

Oh hi

I think the dispatch master is the best small format verb/delay I've found, but I have heard better verbs and better delays for sure. Great board space solution, but if you are picky about either of those 2 effects (they are both better than or at least parity with average) you might want to look at individual pedals.

Tell me about T. Rex please people

They've made me a pretty awesome incentive offer to hop on board, but I've weirdly never touched a single pedal they make

also, I need to pcik some brains about Caroline Guitar Company, which we briefly talked about up thread

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 20:33 (twelve years ago)

I don't really know anything about them, but lolled at the first search result for T. Rex on guitar geek:

how's life, Tuesday, 17 June 2014 21:22 (twelve years ago)

Yeah the tremonti factor is unsettling.

Became a dealer for old school fx today because they sound good and I was bored. Still think they look kinda meh, but I've heard them in person thx to a local dude with a board full of them, and the price is pretty awesome. Couldn't peel them off and look at the guts, so hopefully I'm not about to be super pissed when the box shows up.

The foo look pretty rub.

Get some white strikers made with appropriate cutouts and you can seek 'design your own pedal' kits, get some stick-on rhinestones and you can do blingee pedals.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 17 June 2014 23:34 (twelve years ago)

Caroline makes cool stuff and has a good attitude. Philippe posts on another forum and demonstrates a jjj-friendly philosophy wrt the biz and gear and gear people.

I am curious about their delay but have sworn off purchases for a while.

harmonic decoder http://www.sunsineaudio.com/Harmonic-Decoder-045.htm

Uh oh.

Holy shit.

Does that dude have dealers

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Wednesday, 18 June 2014 03:22 (twelve years ago)

That looks COOL.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 03:22 (twelve years ago)

Looks like the guy sells his pedals through Guitarleys.com (At least youtube indicates that)

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 03:27 (twelve years ago)

Wow. That...wow.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 18 June 2014 14:42 (twelve years ago)

the harmonic decoder is a real obnoxious/uncontrolled beast when used on guitar and i think it probably needs a cv input for best use but i haven't figured that out yet

ledriver, Thursday, 19 June 2014 03:19 (twelve years ago)

not for public release right at the moment, but since i deindexed this, we just confirmed with Caroline.

nice!

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 21 June 2014 19:34 (twelve years ago)

ok, Old School FX stuff looks waaaaaaaay better in person. still clearly a "one dude in a garage slip decal" sort of vibe, but very clean work, lacquer over the decal etc. first impressions, everything is good to very good, standouts are the rootless tree, fat penguin and black lung, invisible robot is way weirder than expected, i think i kinda love it, but not the muff variant i was expecting, full of off harmonic whistles and a general impression of being just short of the breaking point. Miss Turpentine is not an earthshaking 2399 based delay, but sounds really pleasing on short settings (better than many) and noises up a bit on long settings, which i tend to like, but not everyone does.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Monday, 23 June 2014 18:40 (twelve years ago)

added bonus: i hear absolutely zero tubescreamer in any of his overdrive stuff. the fat penguin is a snarly little 2 knobber, the rootless tree is a really surprisingly good sounding low gain od with a really nice tone circuit, and the black lung is chunky and mean-spirited, could def hit the non fuzz doom/stoner stuff sweet spot, which is something i dont hear as often as i should.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Monday, 23 June 2014 18:43 (twelve years ago)

ok. another question. who wants to tell me about empress stuff?

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Wednesday, 25 June 2014 23:11 (twelve years ago)

i had their vintage superdelay, great sound, well made, seemed well thought out. i sold it because i found it increasingly less useful for synthesizers with all the racks i've been accumulating but i'd totes recommend it for guitars

yes, I'd like those pedals as well.

how's life, Monday, 30 June 2014 09:48 (twelve years ago)

as my pedal collection grows the battery + power supply situation is getting a bit messy, what's the best (cheapest) way to power multiple pedals?

Merdeyeux, Thursday, 3 July 2014 17:50 (eleven years ago)

one spot imo until you're ready for a brick

resulting post (rogermexico.), Thursday, 3 July 2014 17:51 (eleven years ago)

Just became a dealer for Chase Bliss Audio, maker of the Warped Vinyl and wow you all need to track one of these down and try it.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 July 2014 21:27 (eleven years ago)

Aw man, the Warped Vinyl is on the top of my "to check out" list.

I do have a conundrum to fix though before I introduce another element into this... Right now my effects line looks like this:

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2912/14544992476_1f4f0fd463_z.jpg

The hangup I have is with the Whammy. I basically only use one setting on it - the harmonic and even then I only really use it in the octave up or down setting. Great warbly sound to it, especially when going through the reverbs, but doesn't have that cliched "shimmer" that everyone seems to be showing off right now. The downside is that it's a HUGE pedal. I like that one octave sound a lot, but have been dissatisfied with the few octave pedals I've tried. Any recommendations out there? Would love to sell the Whammy and recover some space.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 3 July 2014 22:13 (eleven years ago)

should mention that the octavers I tried are the MicroPOG and the Boss super octave (yuck). Curious about Foxrox Octron

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 3 July 2014 22:24 (eleven years ago)

ET is that an ampeg next to the vox? good taste in amps imo.

resulting post (rogermexico.), Friday, 4 July 2014 04:21 (eleven years ago)

Yah, it's an '62 Ampeg Reverb-O-Rocket 2. I fucking love that amp and have owned it for years. I've always maintained that Ampeg's blue diamond guitar amps are very underrated. The various Jets and Rockets are all dynamite and a steal in price compared to whatever the equivalent Deluxe Reverb is. I'll even vouch for the mid-90s reissues up to when Crate/Mackie or whoever the hell they are now bought the brand.

I had an early freakout about now being the sole guitarist in a band (plus hangup on not taking vintage gear to gigs) so I tracked down a Super Rocket 2x12. Even more underrated though I understand they're getting scarce now because one of the clods in Kings Of Leon plays through one.

The AC30 is the greatest guitar amp in the world.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 4 July 2014 05:17 (eleven years ago)

I have a 66 jet that's not going anywhere unless the right 65 reverberocket shows up.

for years it sat next to an AC30 that I finally gave up a couple months back due to: i live in an apartment and band days aren't coming back and my gf moved in and damn that thing is big and heavy.

resulting post (rogermexico.), Friday, 4 July 2014 06:31 (eleven years ago)

Guy just traded in a strymon flint and a loud button balls deep so I guess I finally get to hear what all the fuss is about myself
