Whoops I think I just added a synth mangler to our devi ever order because I want to play with it. Anybody want to buy a $300 fuzz pedal?

by the way, in a gesture of thanks for everybody giving me thoughts etc throughout this thread, i am more than willing to hook peeps up with better than usual pricing on gear we sell if you ever need any of it at any point in the future. hit me up via the store email eclipse at eclipsemusic dot org.

Devi Ever:fx is sold, btw. As always, I have the weirdest timing. Not a shock, but Dwarfcraft Devices is taking over, which should be alright.

Tbh, it's a bittersweet moment for me - I know that Devi has been a polarizing figure to say the least, but getting to know her on the phone, she's a pretty great person, sucks that the console kickstarter pretty much took her out. If I get time, I will crosspost my stream of consciousness Facebook reviews of her pedals in memorium. I might just start posting my pedals reviews here in general, because I think they are fun, and why the fuck not

Skreddy has arrived and lives up to its huge reputation. Any worries I had about the $229 phaser (little miss sunshine) were erased in the first minute of plugging it in. It's the best phaser I have ever heard. Seriously.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 24 January 2014 01:48 (ten years ago) link

Just won a £25 amzaon voucher at work and am thinking of putting it towards a pedal but i'm not that sure what i ought to get. what is essential for getting a good sound? I have a wah, a tuner and a Boss distortion pedal, oh and an RC-loop pedal (which I'm still getting my head around). Really, I want something that's just going to get me a nice overall sound that is a bit more interesting than my usual dry sound. Something that gives the guitar a bit of boost or edge during choruses and makes lead sound a bit better. Should I use overdrive? Compression? Or just get a pedal board for what I have already and save a lot of hassle when setting up? If the latter, what sort of board should I get?

doglato dozzy (dog latin), Friday, 31 January 2014 17:19 (ten years ago) link

just ordered all of the Hayden/Dr. Green pedals

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 31 January 2014 17:30 (ten years ago) link

i get a lot of use out of my tremolo pedal but i guess it depends on your style.

Heez, Friday, 31 January 2014 17:50 (ten years ago) link

overdrive makes a lot of sense, or a clean boost. doubt you could get a pedal board for anywhere near that price, unfortunately.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, 31 January 2014 18:00 (ten years ago) link

went for the bad monkey. our style is sort of tight art-punk a bit like Talking HEads or w/e e.g.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn1oeQZIjBk

doglato dozzy (dog latin), Friday, 31 January 2014 18:03 (ten years ago) link

added the Hayden/Dr. Green pedals last week (although i dont think they will ship for another month or so) and also picked up not a pedal line, the Framus stuff. Anybody played the vintagey import ones they do? seemed intriguing so I bought uh all of them, so I hope they don't suck.

Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Monday, 3 February 2014 17:28 (ten years ago) link

Earthquaker reposted a short review I did of their new Terminal fuzz on their page today so that was pretty cool.

ohhhhhh yeah, just got a chance to play around with the Devi Ever Bit Mangler for a few days before shipping it to Canada and HOLY FUCK. Actually got my first Dwarfcraft built Devi shipment and I hate to say it, but the quality jump is insane (in the positive direction). Devis circuits are great, but her build quality dropped the more pissed off and checked out she got imo. Probably going to bring in some of the insano Dwarfcraft stuff because hey I wanna and also nothing is better than plugging someone into something baffling. also they came by the shop and hung out for an hour and are seriously just the nicest people you could imagine, married couple that are pedal geeks to the core.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Tuesday, 4 March 2014 17:15 (ten years ago) link

oh duh and also i added another pedal line, lotus pedal designs. crazy build quality, and a good simplicity aesthetic that probably does a good job of counterbalancing all the crazy shit ive been bringing in. THD + N and the Iceverb are pretty mindbogglingly good, I'll have a chance to check out the rest of the stuff tomorrow or Friday when it shows up.

adding the Lehle switchers, because hey somebody must want a $160 A/B box right? Right?

normally stuff priced that far above parity sets off every bullshit meter i have but man, i got a sample and they are really something. tech is totally legit, switch life should be just about infinite, literally ZERO bleed from side to side. hope im not the only dude that gives a shit about that sort of stuff.

now doing tc electronics, about to add old school effects, talks in process on greenhouse, wren and cuff, dr. scientist, dr. no, cusack, mojo hand.

also just took in an ibanez ot-10 octave and HOLY SHIT now i get why people freak out about these things, its the bastard son of the pearl octaver mixed with a vintage EH microsynth. its going to be really really hard not to buy this for myself.

oh yeah and also just got in a v3 mosrite fuzzrite. and a malekko lofi 616 mkii. and a first year SIB mr echo. at some point i am just going to have to just convert fully to being a pedal only shop if this keeps up.

I will totally pimp for Mojo Hand though. Brad is a great dude and he's on a real tear lately. I really dig the 442/443 analog filter and (oh the shame) the new dumbl. Haven't tried the Rook or the Iron Bell but they are well loved on the boards and should be solid bread and butter sellers.

Also, have you looked into these guys at all? Think you would dig how Philippe rolls: http://carolineguitar.com

resulting post (rogermexico.), Thursday, 3 April 2014 04:33 (ten years ago) link

what's a good volume pedal? the ernie ball ones seem to be the standard but they're a bit expensive for what seems a fairly simple task, all i want to do is smoothly orient my way around all volumes from 0 to 100 is it so much to ask.

Merdeyeux, Saturday, 5 April 2014 01:28 (ten years ago) link

I am weird and picky about volume pedals so I am probably the wrong guy to ask, but I like the Big Joe Volume (although largely because of the 3 mode and adjustable sweep shit that you don't need). The Fender volume pedal (now discontinued) was great too if space is not a concern. Are you looking at the ernie ball jrs, or the full size ones? Jrs are much cheaper, and although slightly more expensive than the dunlop crybaby chassis ones, much better imo. Anything less is going to be a plastic housing and pretty mediocre, honestly.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Saturday, 5 April 2014 02:19 (ten years ago) link

Also Caroline would be high on my list but I think they already have a dealer in town and I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Saturday, 5 April 2014 02:20 (ten years ago) link

thanks, that's useful. i suspect it's something i'd find myself being picky about too so i wouldn't want to go budget and end up with a pedal that has annoying limitations. fender seem to have a new one on the market - http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Fender-FVP-1-Volume-Pedal/X3M - know anything about it?

Merdeyeux, Saturday, 5 April 2014 02:32 (ten years ago) link

might also be worth looking at that crazy electro harmonix volume pedal, the one with no moving parts, ive heard good things

this tc electronic flashback x4 is crazy crazy good, like a hugely improved line 6 dl4 or a strymon that doesnt cost 10 billion dollars. at $249 it's absolutely amazing. HUGE though, basically the same footprint as the dl4

I've recently acquired a CS-3 Compressor/Sustainer and an NS-2 Noise Reducer. How can I get the best out of these?
I take it I would have something like Wah > CS-3 > Distortion > NS-2 > Delay ? But are there any nice setting combos for these?

1 pONO 3v3Ry+h1n G!!!1 (dog latin), Wednesday, 9 April 2014 08:57 (ten years ago) link

Hello again. Can someone give me a bit of a primer on pedal boards?

I've recently acquired a number of new pedals and I'm getting fed up of having to set them all up each time I want to practice. I don't really know a lot about pedal boards, how they work, which ones are best to get, how to accommodate a number of pedals and what to look out for.

Currently I have a Diageo power supply and daisy chain (which weren't cheap) but it only accommodates about 6 pedals. I take it it's not safe to use a double daisy chain. If I get a powered board, will I even need to use the supply any more?

1 pONO 3v3Ry+h1n G!!!1 (dog latin), Wednesday, 16 April 2014 11:53 (ten years ago) link

its totally safe to continue daisy chaining, as long as you have a power supply with enough milliamps to do it. figure that a 1600 mA supply can probably easily handle 8 pedals without any sweat. diago makes one thats 1000 mA and one that's 3000 mA iirc. any idea which one you have?

also i just picked up their line of pedal boards and i am pretty impressed for the price. i personally hate the limitations of boards with built in supplies and avoid them like the plague.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 April 2014 20:25 (ten years ago) link

oh and also you basically want to place the ns-2 right after whatever is creating noise in your chain, so if you are primarily dealing with guitar sourced noise it would go in the front, if the distortion is the culprit, right after that, etc. comps can accentuate noise quite a bit (remove nerd info) so keep that in mind as well.
