oh yeah, there are def clear dan armstrong antecedents to this stuff (esp the orange whip/orange squeezer) but having heard the da stuff, this has the advantage of being way lower noise, and in the case of the comp just plain sounding better. plus hey, i get to give money to a dude that lives in the same city as me

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 21 February 2013 20:25 (thirteen years ago)

totally! dig the notion of booteeky armstrong boxes.

note to self: reading/posting from phone makes me sound like a crusty killjoy itt :(

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Thursday, 21 February 2013 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

i should post some gut shots, these things are beautiful inside - dude appears to be an EE by day, which explains a whole lot imo. just popped open the clean boost and there is a 10 way dipswitch row that allows you to have it buffered or non buffered, and engages 2 trim pots that adjust bass and treble cut and boost, plus a third trimmer for output level

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 21 February 2013 20:43 (thirteen years ago)

lol you're gonna run outta room in there.

this has me wanting a choad blaster (demo toward the end):

yeah i am on the verge of either buying another showcase or building some sort of 100 foot wall mounted shelf. at last count i had 273 pedals in stock.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 22 February 2013 18:46 (thirteen years ago)

haha and 40 on backorder what the hell is wrong with me

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 22 February 2013 18:48 (thirteen years ago)

walk away from the pedals, jjj

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 22 February 2013 18:59 (thirteen years ago)

jjj you ever think about zvex? they are local, my friend hannah handpaints them. coolest looking pedals ever

in a chef-driven ambulance (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 22 February 2013 19:13 (thirteen years ago)

did not know z'vex were local

arby's, Friday, 22 February 2013 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

i have srs problems w/the pricing on zvex stuff and (no offense to your friend) kind of a knee jerk negative reaction to the whole handpainted pedal thing. Screenprints on pedals can look super cool, why you gotta make it a l33t one of a kind artisnal blah blah imo.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 22 February 2013 20:28 (thirteen years ago)

like the super duper 2 in 1 is a pair of stacked clean boosts in a pedal for over $300. thats fucking crazy! component parts in that would run you about oh (and i am being very kind here and assuming that you are not buying in bulk) $45?

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 22 February 2013 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

hey geekz I need u on what should be a pretty simple matter - I have fun with the 5.6 or so seconds of looping my DD-6 allows but am annoyed by its limitations, so I'm looking for a loop pedal that'll let me do loops of a few bars, add loops and delete loops and have loops come in and out of the mix, yknow the kinds of things the layman like me would imagine a loop pedal for solo performance to do. What's the best and more importantly cheapest thing for fulfilling these functions? (I'd be using it mostly for guitar and keyboard but possibly also whatever else comes to mind.)

hot young stalin (Merdeyeux), Friday, 22 February 2013 22:17 (thirteen years ago)

removing loops adds considerably to the cost - i am a fan of the new eh 45 looper, but once you buy it and a footswitch, yer talking abt $600 USD

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 22 February 2013 22:42 (thirteen years ago)

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 22 February 2013 23:42 (thirteen years ago)

eep. i imagined that being able to remove loops would be the tough part...

hot young stalin (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 23 February 2013 00:54 (thirteen years ago)

Lemme dig a little deeper before I ruin your day

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Saturday, 23 February 2013 18:05 (thirteen years ago)

What you're describing, Merdeyeux, is pretty complicated and specific only to the EH 45 (or their discontinued and awesome 2880) and the Boss RC-50. You can do something similar with a Boss RC-30 though! I think it has one step of undo/redo and two mono channels with sliders.

i hold the kwok and you hold the kee (flamboyant goon tie included), Saturday, 23 February 2013 18:24 (thirteen years ago)

The RC-30 is generally pretty well priced for what it does, it has some superfluous "lo fi" functions and stuff. There's a Digitech one, the Stereo Jamman, that is OK too, but it's got those noisy "true bypass" style switches that are frustrating for long periods of loop practice

i hold the kwok and you hold the kee (flamboyant goon tie included), Saturday, 23 February 2013 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yeah this is actually a fairly reliable source of info, who would've thought

http://looperpedalreviews.com/

i hold the kwok and you hold the kee (flamboyant goon tie included), Saturday, 23 February 2013 18:31 (thirteen years ago)

Ah, thanks a lot. (What I'm basically looking for is to imitate what you do live, except cheaper and with a millionth of the musical ability, so your specific advice is v much appreciated.) Thinking about it I imagine the RC-30 (or maybe even the RC-20XL, it seems) could more or less do what I have in mind, and much of my desire to have elements drop in and out is probably more a desire to actually play as little as possible so I minimise the chance of fucking up as much as possible. On that matter, I guess I could just become a better musician.

hot young stalin (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 24 February 2013 00:27 (thirteen years ago)

RC-20XL is such a good entry point. The reason there were so many loopy acts 2002-2005 was that pedal. Once you figure it out and gain some performative ability w/it you'll have a better idea of what feature set would best suit you.

i hold the kwok and you hold the kee (flamboyant goon tie included), Sunday, 24 February 2013 13:39 (thirteen years ago)

alright, I'll do it!

hot young stalin (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 24 February 2013 17:48 (thirteen years ago)

well some more stuff came in - got the Earthquaker Hoof Reaper fuzz in (Hoff + Reaper + Octave in one admittedly large box) and man, i know it's hard to swallow the idea that a modern production fuzz box could be worth $295 but this one might be it.

also added another pedal line (yeah I know) but it is a small line and Minnesota based.

http://www.ramblefx.com/

He hasn't gotten a Ranier in here yet, and is sort of pondering whther to continue with that model or work on something new, but the dual tone bender is cool as shit, and the Plexi pre thing called the Marvel Drive is just plain outstanding. $150 for the bender, $140 for the marvel, which seems pretty reasonable to me.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 28 February 2013 16:34 (thirteen years ago)

jesus at this point i should probably just list the pedal brands i stock so people can ask abt shit if they want to, they're sort of sprinkled all through this thread at this point

mxr
way huge
dunlop
electro harmonix
idiotbox
noisemaker
earthquaker
stalefish effects
henretta engineering
danelectrlol
visual sound

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 28 February 2013 16:44 (thirteen years ago)

oh and a shitload of vintage stuff

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 28 February 2013 16:44 (thirteen years ago)

jjj what's the best vintage fuzz sound you have? (fuzz like the on Stones' Satisfaction)

i see boy george has lost some weight (brownie), Thursday, 28 February 2013 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

I am a huge fan of the Mosrite Fuzzrite (sold the one we had already), that crazy ass honey fresh sounds crying baby fuzz we had in a while ago (the one that turned into the super fuzz eventually) and the foxx tone machine. but shit they cost craptons of money - if you don't want to kill yourself for $$$, def check out the catalinbread merkin fuzz, or honestly, maybe the ramble fx tone bender i listed up there.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 28 February 2013 16:55 (thirteen years ago)

thanks! that merkin sounds good.

i see boy george has lost some weight (brownie), Thursday, 28 February 2013 17:09 (thirteen years ago)

oh i forgot to do true due diligence - the actual effect used on Satisfaction was a Maestro Fuzz Tone. there is this clone http://www.north-effects.co.uk/primitive but the 1.5 battery thing is annoying to me (use a charge pump you lazy bastards!), and I know some people clame that one of the settings on the Bozz FZ-3 is a maestro clone, but I find that sorta doubtful. My first choice would still be the Merkin tbh.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Saturday, 2 March 2013 17:42 (thirteen years ago)

good lord, "clame" wtf @ me

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Saturday, 2 March 2013 17:42 (thirteen years ago)

wow, that primitive sounds great

u r the best magician ever. my bad levitate me pls (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 8 March 2013 18:45 (thirteen years ago)

oh her stuff looks super cool, and i get that people want their shit to look cool (for example i am sure that some of the stuff i stock wouldn't sell nearly as well w/o having grabber graphics and w/e.) really my issue is with the pricing on zvex stuff in general. if i have a pedal that costs $300, it better do some pretty amazing stuff.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 8 March 2013 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

just got contacted by these dudes:

http://www.elreyfx.com/index.html

anybody heard anything good/bad/indifferent abt them? idk that i really need more fuzz in here considering ive got 35 or 40 at the moment, but i always dig it when someone finds us and makes the first move.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 11 March 2013 15:43 (thirteen years ago)

So I really want to know - have you ever hooked all 35 or 40 up in a row? What would happen?

anybody know anything about these dudes - http://www.tsvgpedals.com/? Also putting out initial feelers to mojohand and would be curious about what people think about them. http://www.mojohandfx.com/

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 13 March 2013 17:06 (thirteen years ago)

iirc mojo hand brad is a good guy and folks seem to dig their fuzzes and the analog filter.

he was also the business guy behind the legendary-to-me Ultra Lord Fuzz. Man I shoulda grabbed one of those when I should...

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 13 March 2013 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

ok another one - anybody have a chance to actually hear any of the mooer micro pedals?

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 22 March 2013 19:39 (thirteen years ago)

Walrus' stuff is so great. Just ordered a Voyager from them - can't wait to get back home to try it out.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 28 March 2013 23:17 (thirteen years ago)

new analog delay from ibanez (the es2) just showed up and it is totally fucking amazing. 30-1000 ms analog delay with tap tempo, modulation, and a feedback switch for $150 street - it's pretty unbeatable and all of you should buy it.

My Chemical Romance did 9/11 (jjjusten), Wednesday, 10 April 2013 22:08 (thirteen years ago)

ha I was going to revive this thread to say a public THANK YOU for the TARDIS blue pedal upthread, which I am buying a cable for tonight

relentless technosexuality (DJP), Wednesday, 10 April 2013 22:25 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, the Ibanez looks/sounds dope.

I love love love that DJP just dove right into straight small-batch pedal geekery. No mass produced Eddie Van Halen-endorsed crap for this dude.

how's life, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 22:59 (thirteen years ago)

no problem man! i will sell pedals to all these ilxors.

i just spent the last hour with that ibanez. it's a complete game changer.

My Chemical Romance did 9/11 (jjjusten), Wednesday, 10 April 2013 23:14 (thirteen years ago)

between this and the echorec idk why people would ever buy anything else. seriously.
