hey elvis your band sounds awesome, do you have recordings??

An album and a six-song EP. There's a link to an e-version of the EP on this thread: The vaguely rolling ExDetectives thread of self-promotion (Do Not Read If You Hate Us)

New album on the way in a couple of months (need to get some $$$ to master it)

Stockhausen's Helicopter Quartet (Elvis Telecom), Monday, 25 October 2010 20:55 (fifteen years ago)

Here is a couple of tunes from my newish band, pretty much made with a couple overdubs on practice recordings. I'm going to sit down and do another mix session this week and add in the overdub we did on one tune on Sunday.

Don't remember if I ever posted the whole of the bedroom album I recorded a couple of years back... It starts off kind of shit and gets kind of better as it goes on.

Had the good fortune to work on some tracks with surm recently. We recorded about an hour's worth of stuff--his vocals with me playing along on his synth, just kind of letting out whatever came to us. Big thanks to him for letting me post one of the tracks.

big jeans (lou), Thursday, 28 October 2010 17:07 (fifteen years ago)

sounds great. reverb on the vocals is really nice, what are you using for that?

bows don't kill people, arrows do (Jordan), Thursday, 28 October 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks, Jordan. We didn't use anything fancy for the reverb--just GarageBand.

Pretty happy with this track i finished a couple weeks ago, i guess its an attempt at a Kompakt type track, made with ableton (which i am just learning) and reaktor. definitely needs some work on the mix and eqs

Crut, I love your gritty drum sounds. What do you use?

Fetchboy, Saturday, 6 November 2010 15:08 (fifteen years ago)

Also, more importantly, the songwriting is http://www.evetahmincioglu.com/web/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/tony-the-tiger-frosties.jpg

Fetchboy, Saturday, 6 November 2010 17:05 (fifteen years ago)

Thanks!!

On some songs I used Reason's drum machine + effects; on others I used my Roland RS-9 (on which I usually pitched down the drums).

Those two Rome Pays Off tracks are really cool. I've got one of the Rothko CDs quite a long time back.

FYI, if anyone is interested I posted a new mix of one of my tunes on the sound cloud site.

earlnash, Sunday, 14 November 2010 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

diggin those punchier drums, man!

Fetchboy, Sunday, 14 November 2010 12:04 (fifteen years ago)

I wish the snare sound wasn't total ass on the original recording. The mic must have moved and got off target, it also sounds like it bounced off the rim of the drum itself a couple of times. I'm pretty cool with the rest of the mix. I don't think it sounds bad for going live to 6 tracks in a garage with a couple of overdubs.

I'm going to try one last mix, but first I am going to load the snare track into Ableton and try some of the gate and filters to maybe come up with a sound with some snap that I can blend in with the original track and maybe get the sound I'd like.

Here is a link to a session I was palying on for Late Junction on Radio 3 (that was broadcast last night) with my friend Khyam who is an extremely talented Oud Player and an equally brilliant Cellist called Matthew.

I was playing bass but being a sort-of human sruti box making really deep drones and loops, it was a lot of fun.

let's all go down the strand.....galifianaaakis (MaresNest), Friday, 19 November 2010 13:04 (fifteen years ago)

"This podcast is not available outside the UK" :(
I took a break from working on my snythpop nasoalmo entry this morning and made this little thing. Goes out of sync at a couple of points on account of my shitty guitar playing, but I think it's kinda nice for 4 tracks on a shitty acoustic.

Fetchboy, Friday, 19 November 2010 15:15 (fifteen years ago)

That's pretty good. I don't think the out of sync-ness matters too much, in fact may make it more interesting if the guitars drift in and out of sync. Co-incidentally I was just playing arpeggios on my guitar while thinking "wow I suck at this!".

(xp) Interesting stuff. I thought that the second track of the three was the best. I've tried that kind of "no speakers" overdubbing but it's a bit different because I was overdubbing myself.

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Friday, 19 November 2010 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

sounds good man, i'm a sucker for that reich shit

bows don't kill people, arrows do (Jordan), Friday, 19 November 2010 22:13 (fifteen years ago)

Sweet stuff MaresNest, excellent vibe you three get! I think the third piece is my favourite - the subtle shift in momentum about four minutes in is superb, and the Ud dude plays a totally ace solo (as, later, does the cellist). Your own wibblings are sonorous and most relaxing - that harmonic bassline in the 2nd piece is excellent (and the loose vibe of that piece overall is really cool), and the first piece works up to a mighty conflagration.

(Yeah, I was commissioned to listen to this, hehe, but it's mad good and I'm glad I did!)
