Mr. Que, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

harbl you need a coffee intervention--i'm worried about you

Mr. Que, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)

xp mr que - that's the same kind that we use - i think it's the cheapest they sell.

i get http://zekescoffee.net/ it's good

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:57 (sixteen years ago)

i do need a coffee intervention

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:57 (sixteen years ago)

i know how to make everything. except coffee.

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

once i was grinding my coffee at whole foods and some *asshole* came up to me and told me i was "grinding the coffee too much." thanks for the advice, buttmunch.

Mr. Que, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

haha. more like whole *rude*s

harbl, Monday, 21 September 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

i fill the coffeemaker up to the 8

4 regular scoops, 2 heaping scoops

i think the scoop holds a tablespoon? will check.

this makes 4 cups. use this same ratio when i make less coffee

what? if yours has the same type of machines as ours, it's just an on/off switch that pretty much just starts and stops the coffee going through the grinder.

my other display name is a controversial mod edit (sarahel), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:00 (sixteen years ago)

i make very strong coffee, which i drink black, when i make it for other people who have milk in their coffee i give them a little insincere prepared speech about how i only have skim milk and that is why their coffee looks like pitch.

estela, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

we use a black and decker smart brew or something. we just grabbed a brewer at the store. months later, we're watching America's test Kitchen on PBS (lol yuppies) and they picked our coffee maker as the best. i would love to investigate alternative forms of coffee making someday (french press, etc0 but for now we're good.

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think i really do anything wrong when i make coffee tbh. i think god ruins it bc he hates me

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:02 (sixteen years ago)

it's been good lately though. the only thing i'm mad at is the grinder.

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:02 (sixteen years ago)

i think you have a negative attitude towards coffee and you need to get a stiff upper lip and get your act together. God wants you to have delicious coffee--why do you keep foiling his plan

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:03 (sixteen years ago)

why

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:03 (sixteen years ago)

maybe you are tasting it wrong.

estela, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:03 (sixteen years ago)

xp - estela: i drink coffee black as well ... a while back i brought this party-sized coffee maker (that I rarely use) to use for a reception for work, and people complained that the coffee was too weak after they put milk in it. I questioned (not directly, mind you) why they put milk in it.

my other display name is a controversial mod edit (sarahel), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)

i am going to try to have a positive attitude toward coffee

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)

awes

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:07 (sixteen years ago)

i sometimes add milk to my coffee but only a splash of rice milk. btw soy milk + coffee is the most disgusting act of coffee savagery known to man.

omar little, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:11 (sixteen years ago)

soy milk is weird

my other display name is a controversial mod edit (sarahel), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:11 (sixteen years ago)

i've never fallen for soy milk.

estela, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:12 (sixteen years ago)

i've dropped some before.

my other display name is a controversial mod edit (sarahel), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:12 (sixteen years ago)

french press is good for me because when i had a drip coffee maker i never cleaned it and it got all gross but you basically have to wash the french press every day if you want coffee the next day so there's MOTIVATION

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:13 (sixteen years ago)

soy milk starts to separate from the coffee and then your coffee begins to look like a congealing irish car bomb

omar little, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:14 (sixteen years ago)

ridiculous but true.

estela, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:15 (sixteen years ago)

i clean the french press sometimes. i don't take it apart every day though.

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:22 (sixteen years ago)

guys let me answer some of your questions (coming from someone who has spent way too much time researching how to make coffee)

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:42 (sixteen years ago)

i get some coffee ground to dust and other coffee like the size of 1/4 bean. in the same batch. and i'm not putting too much in. it wouldn't be so bad if it was drip but it comes through the mesh of the french press thing when it's fine like that.

― harbl, Tuesday, September 22, 2009 7:01 AM (1 hour ago) Bookmark

that's cause you're using a blade grinder, which has no control over the consistency of the grind. burr grinders, which are $$$, let you control the size/consistency of the grind

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:46 (sixteen years ago)

the reason why buying whole bean coffee and grinding it yourself is better is cause of the whole freshness thing. coffee gets stale due to oxidization. when coffee is in bean form, the total surface area of the coffee is significantly less than when you grind it up. grinding right before brewing ensures the freshness of the bean.

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:50 (sixteen years ago)

you don't necessarily need a coarse grind to use with a french press; you want a grind that's just slightly bigger than openings in the metal sieve. this is difficult to achieve with a blade grinder.

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:51 (sixteen years ago)

but i knew both of those things

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:51 (sixteen years ago)

all 3 of those things

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:51 (sixteen years ago)

haha, then I don't understand why you're whinging about having a bad coffee grinder

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:53 (sixteen years ago)

because i can't afford a burr grinder and i thought maybe there was some secret to using it that makes everyone else so happy with theirs

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:53 (sixteen years ago)

turns out they just have low standards ^_^

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

the secret is using it with an Aeropress

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:55 (sixteen years ago)

or getting a pour over brewer with a cloth filter

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:56 (sixteen years ago)

whinging??????

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:56 (sixteen years ago)

i'll just use an old sock

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:57 (sixteen years ago)

oh yeah i meant to add that i was not whinging ty

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:57 (sixteen years ago)

or getting a manual hand grinder

baout.com (dyao), Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:58 (sixteen years ago)

velko, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 00:58 (sixteen years ago)

velkommen

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:01 (sixteen years ago)

harbl, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

"coffee science"

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 22 September 2009 01:03 (sixteen years ago)

Mr. Que, I, too, was using the term ironically
