Is that advice for me, or a new placard?

I'm not a pair of slippers

I won't comfort you

I'm more like an avant-garde atonal composer

I won't provide you with resolution

I'm not a toilet

You can't flush me

I'm the paper

I'll clean up your mess

And leave a light coating of fiber dust all over your bathroom floor

Cursed architecture

calstars, Saturday, 18 June 2022 15:00 (three years ago)

Industrial architecture! I'm thinking grain elevator or cotton mill or something like that. The gable-roofed volumes do read as "house" (or "church" looking at the main, basilica-like volume)... but I suspect they're all the way they are for essentially functional reasons. The resulting composition is obviously fabulous though, with the 'houses' telescoping out of each other.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 18 June 2022 15:07 (three years ago)

what is cursed about this functional structure

towards fungal computer (harbl), Saturday, 18 June 2022 15:07 (three years ago)

yes it is like the elevators at the quarry i grew up near

towards fungal computer (harbl), Saturday, 18 June 2022 15:07 (three years ago)

obv not "afraid" of these types of buildings but they always give me visions of falling out of that chute. just like i am afraid of grain bins but never have been inside or near one. i mean imagine drowning in corn. ugh.

These are pretty common buildings in non-urban areas?! I get that they’re creepy but also, like, really really common and not weird

lots of these types of buildings around here but for coal, not grain. they're huge. definitely nightmarish.

i grew up near a big steel mill and those structures were also huge and evil-looking.

the steel mill was torn down 15 years ago to be redeveloped into single family real estate.

there's a certain way the mormon realtors around here say "home" - always "home", never "house" - where the 'oh' and the 'm' combine to have this sedative, cocoon-like effect, it's pretty remarkable.

this has actually made me think more about the building because you always drive by them not thinking about the design. of course a lot of them are a simpler metal structure but the house glued to another house glued to a church is pretty interesting. still the ladder and chute gives me "you can die on the job" vibes and i shudder.

I find it weird that the grey trend hasn't died but instead metastasized into grimmer and grimmer iterations.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 1 August 2022 17:09 (three years ago)

Finding it odd that there are still a load of photos from like 6 or whatever years ago still active. Would have thought if they were linked to listings they would be empty small squares instead of photos. Since some of the newer ones are. Did the OP have a site he was copying to or something?

My parents just finally redid their basement (which was likely last renovated in the 60s) and did it all gray. I'm so mad, but I am pretending I love it.

I'm all on board for this beating out the yards with Bermuda Zoysia drinking 9,000 gallons of water a day, but really. I'd still like to see what was wrong with the other yards in the neighborhood.
