Building something like Ello costs money. They have a team of at least seven people, and have worked on it for months.

Basically the first day ello started showing up in my newsfeed it was all "NEW SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE WILL DELIVER US REDEMPTION!" and then the second day it was all "THINKPIECE SHOWS HOW NEW SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE WILL ACTUALLY FAIL TO DELIVER US REDEMPTION!"
