When customers skip out on the tab, Shuck said, it typically comes out of the server's paycheck.

this has got to be illegal, right?

yeah, that doesn't make sense.

that's like not paying cashiers when people shoplift

It is often the case that the establishment makes their employees pay the cost of customer theft to give them an incentive to police their customers.[citation needed] They may do so explicitly by deducting unpaid meals from wages or tips, or implicitly through an end-of-shift reconciliation system whereby the server is expected to provide enough cash and credit card receipts to cover the cost of their customers' meals, and keeps any surplus as tips. Though theoretically illegal in some cases,[1][2][3][4][5] the server is often held responsible for tabs that are not paid. It may be illegal, for example, for an establishment to require an employee to pay for an unpaid tab, but it is often a serious offense to have someone walk out on their check. The server must decide whether to pay the tab and keep his or her job, or not pay and risk losing it.

One of two battalion chiefs in the 400-member department, Buker was on a 24-hour shift at the Ellicott City station Jan. 20 as the news of weeks before was filled with debate about gun control after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

Using his personal Facebook page that did not identify him as a member of the county fire department, the court document says Buker posted: "My aide had an outstanding idea. ... Let's kill someone with a liberal ... then maybe we can get them outlawed too! Think of the satisfaction of beating a liberal with another liberal. ... Its almost poetic."

One of Buker's Facebook friends, Mark Grutzmacher, responded online, saying, "But ... was it an [assault] liberal'? Gotta pick a fat one, those are the 'high capacity' ones. Oh pick a black one, those are more 'scary.' Sorry, had to perfect on a cool idea!"

Buker "liked" Grutzmacher's comment, adding, "Too cool, Mark Grutzmacher."

In an interview, Robson said Grutzmacher's comment was not racial, but referred strictly to discussions in Congress about assault weapons that are black and have high-capacity ammunition clips. The county saw it differently, he said.

It's not that prosecutors haven't been able to win convictions against Palmer. It's that the crime — in most cases, theft under $100 — doesn't carry a large enough penalty to deter someone with a taste for good food and drink who's willing to do jail time. And because it's a nonviolent offense, those who are found guilty serve only a fraction of their sentences.

it's been making me irrationally angry lately when justin fenton doesn't bother to ask a lawyer if he's right about the law, or look it up himself. you can still charge someone with theft < 1,000 if the value is under 100. that carries 18 months even for just one item and 5 years if you've been convicted before. i thought about writing a letter to the editor but i didn't.

"I feel strongly against it because of its connotation," Harycki said. "Frankly, I didn't know that existed. I guess there's a whole subworld out there that I just found out about."

"They said, 'check it out,'" Harycki said. "And my wife is a teacher, and she told me, 'We use Urban Dictionary all the time to understand our students,' so I checked it out and there's quite a few variations. I'm not quite sure I understand them all."

http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_24980264/stillwater-asks-that-festival-name-be-changed-because

"The city has concerns over the name that was chosen," Harycki said Thursday. "We were made aware -- how can I put this delicately? -- that the name was a vulgar reference that we would prefer not to have associated with a family event in the city. We don't want to be the laughingstock of the nation."

Search to resume for missing Ark. plane, pilot

ODEN, Ark. (AP) - Searchers will resume their look for a missing Arkansas Forestry Commission pilot and his airplane after wreckage from another crash on Rattlesnake Mountain in western Arkansas turned out to be from an accident many years ago.

Commission spokeswoman Adriane Barnes said Wednesday that searchers found the wreckage of a plane that crashed decades ago in Polk County - but that the plane had been previously found and its crash recorded. No remains were located with it.

Police: Ark. man shot after insulting gunman's mom

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - Police in Pine Bluff say a man was wounded in the leg by a gunman whose mother he insulted.

Authorities say 32-year-old Corey Henderson is wanted on first-degree battery charges for the Sunday shooting.

Investigators told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://is.gd/DRVRpy ) that the victim used a slur to indicate a woman he saw was a prostitute. Police allege Henderson heard the comment and became angry, saying that was his mother.

Police say Henderson drew a pistol and the victim apologized repeatedly, but Henderson fired several times, missing the victim. According to police, the victim then asked whether Henderson planned to actually shoot him, and Henderson allegedly shot him twice in the leg.

Police say the victim was treated at a hospital. Authorities are still looking for Henderson.

LIDL moved premises by about 1/4 of a mile I think. It's now on the main road through the section of town (not the bypass which is about a field a way from it) instead of the back of an industrial estate.
& they had a sale where I picked up a bagless vacuum cleaner for €25 so I can do my room and not have to worry about getting bags that you can't get locally.
Thrilling huh?

& in the not so real world u-torrent seems to have disposed of the dialogue box that allows you to check torrents before you download them and set location for them. So my head is being done in.
