flopson, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 20:35 (five years ago) Permalink

haha

yeah im down with these - there are a couple of opening ceremony and apc pairs i've seen in shops that have been calling to me that i'd like to cop as soon as it stops fucking snowing here

Reggie (Lamp), Thursday, 4 April 2013 03:20 (five years ago) Permalink

I have seen fun shoes too, there are some nice print Vans around, and also fun scarves, again, think one fun item per outfit is enough.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Thursday, 4 April 2013 06:51 (five years ago) Permalink

I would like to have all of these shorts.

I would not like to pay $200 for these shorts though.

saw those insect shorts in a window today. are all fun shorts in some way channeling jamz, or is there something else that i'm unaware of?

disconcerting to see increasing numbers of grown men in dublin wearing shorts. they can't all be tourists.

zvookster, Monday, 3 June 2013 21:56 (five years ago) Permalink

one of my friends is strongly opposed to grown men wearing shorts, and in most cases i'm inclined to agree; however, i'll abide them in certain climates. i think they should generally only be worn for specific purposes, though, e.g. swimming or playing sports. otherwise too casual and also they're a vestige of boyhood. poss bordering on blogs instruct you how to be a man territory here *shrugs*

the nu tailored shorts look is good on some but not something I can pull off.

also most people really, really should not have opinions about other people's clothes, because they are terrible at it

Lamp, Monday, 3 June 2013 22:55 (five years ago) Permalink

i think they suit some people, but otherwise most people shouldn't wear them, for the reasons stated above. imo.

bob seger master system (qiqing), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 00:17 (five years ago) Permalink

lol @ lamp getting salty

shorts were never part of the culture here and now, based on my observations from one week of sunshine, they may be. if u want a bunch of irish men in shorts, this is great news.

i'll be over here checking out hot grown dads in their summer jorts, hi haters

⚓ (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 00:48 (five years ago) Permalink

i'm not even in the hating brigade, and i think they suit some people, esp. hot grown dads (in certain environments, in a certain style), but otherwise they're nagl

bob seger master system (qiqing), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 01:07 (five years ago) Permalink

Yeah but trousers are just so bloody uncomfortable in the heat

badg, Tuesday, 4 June 2013 01:28 (five years ago) Permalink

however, i'll abide them in certain climates

i don't want to be misconstrued, but idk what can you do? i'm being somewhat facetious with "abide", just so you don't think i'm hidebound or sniffy. i vacillate a little on this one, not wanting to be judgmental about other people's clothing choices, and recognising the suitability of certain styles on certain people above the age of say, 13, but also having a fairly old-fashioned take on the garment's general wear and appropriateness. i think i look fairly good in some shorts, too, but it doesn't mean i think it's apt to wear them in most situations.

bob seger master system (qiqing), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 03:08 (five years ago) Permalink

xpost those are an example of shorts worn well, looking suitable, and iirc being worn for a specific leisurely purpose.

i love that print a lot. pleats, tho?

⚓ (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 6 June 2013 13:10 (five years ago) Permalink

yeah might look a bit weird on.

they have the same print in a sweat shirt but i already have one crazy print sweatshirt and that's enough.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 6 June 2013 13:14 (five years ago) Permalink

i actually kind of dig pleats on shorts

乒乓, Thursday, 6 June 2013 13:39 (five years ago) Permalink

i don't think pleats are offensive, but pleats-as-a-concept are kind of in a place where they're either tragically uncool OR super fashion. i think we're overdue for wider, fuller proportions to return to menswear but for now pleated shorts still bring to mind elderly tourists with white socks pulled up.

⚓ (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 6 June 2013 14:05 (five years ago) Permalink

when you pleats that sort of flourescent floral print tho, it does look pretty fun

⚓ (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 6 June 2013 14:06 (five years ago) Permalink

i think a single pleat can look good on slim-cut pants, shorts, maybe? would fit into the whole cuffing trend

乒乓, Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:23 (five years ago) Permalink

man theres a disturbing new definition of single pleat out there just fyi http://www.theawl.com/2013/06/incoming-mens-fashion-trend-disaster-the-single-pleated-chino

Lamp, Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:36 (five years ago) Permalink

pleats will come and go, but flat fronts objectively look better

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:38 (five years ago) Permalink

'objectively'

⚓ (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:39 (five years ago) Permalink

yeah pleats are so gross, so are those generously cut billowy style oxfords that Brooks Brothers and the like sell (JUST WEAR SHIT THAT FITS, DUMBY)

walk in the room they throwin Sade left to right (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:40 (five years ago) Permalink

pleats can be cool but they also can get out of control real fast, sans pleats is def a safer approach

lag∞n, Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:41 (five years ago) Permalink

so i guess leave pleats to the experts is prob the best approach

lag∞n, Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:42 (five years ago) Permalink

i don't like pleats on regular cotton twill khakis because they just look stiff and wrinkly, but if you're talking about wool suit trousers where the fabric actually has a nice drape then pleats can look great

⚓ (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:45 (five years ago) Permalink

i have a tweed suit w single pleats and you hardly even notice them especially w the jacket and all

lag∞n, Thursday, 6 June 2013 15:46 (five years ago) Permalink

Based on my observations of people hanging out in the sun today, I can report that FUN SHORTS haven't caught on in Cambridge yet. Was tempted to vanguard a pair of these, but the shop didn't have my size:
