by "feminine" I mean I ended up buying a lot of ridiculous items at the thrift store with both ruffles and Nehru collars some of which are like skirts and dresses
and I found a ridiculous coat...I should just take a picture of it, it's:
- copper
- windbreaker material
- knee-length
- buttons
- wizard sleeves on bottom half of sleeve only
- belt
- button-up cowl collar
- giant riffle at bottom

1. Tough boots: A look I love but it never works on me. Will however keep wearing my Frye harness boots until the day they fall off my feet.
2. Leather mix: I have owned a leather skirt. I will not sit in it at a desk ever again. Clothes need to move. No.
3. Pop Color Bag: Does this 2-year-old red one count? Or the 2 white ones on my shelf? Or the kelly green one from 3 years ago?
4. The Throw-On Sweater: I have two of these already, full of moth holes and worn strictly at home. Patch pockets vital for holding packs of cigarettes.
5. Brooches: I am already my own grandma, so yes.
6. The New Pump: Huh?
7. Collar Works: lol Lechara wins this.
8. The Patterned Pant: You lost me at "pant."
9. A Sheath Dress: C'mon this has never gone OUT, you're just making this shit up now.
10. Red Lips: See # 9.

1. Tough Boots - nah. I wear boots a lot but not super tough ones
2. The Leather Mix - No
3. A Pop Color Bag - Don't really care for colored bags, so no
4. The Throw-On Sweater - If this is a long sweater coat thing, absolutely NO
5. Brooches- NO
6. The New Pump - Uh.. Maybe?
7. Collar Works (???) - Doesn't sound like my thing
8. The Patterned Pant - HELL NO
9. A Sheath Dress - Isn't this every season?
10. Red Lips - Not for me, I kind of prefer rose.. red is too much

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Thursday, 6 September 2012 01:32 (eleven years ago) link

1. Tough Boots - yes. I am all about tough boots.
2. The Leather Mix - nope. I don't even have one (1) leather, let alone a mix
3. A Pop Color Bag - I have a couple but I don't make a point of it so maybe?
4. The Throw-On Sweater - nope no gigantor robe sweaters
5. Brooches- not much of a jewellery girl anyway. Not classy enough for brooches.
6. The New Pump - I dont know what this is
7. Collar Works (???) - I kind of hate collars on things
8. The Patterned Pant - yeah I could be down with this
9. A Sheath Dress - Depends. Darts for my ample curves y/n?
10. Red Lips - Yes! Just rediscovered red and am loving it

a lot of red, monochrome modernist structure

Yes to both of these things.

No to everything on the Nordstrom list except tough boots and maybe red lips.

salsa shark, Thursday, 6 September 2012 11:34 (eleven years ago) link

Do these things differ North America vs UK? I can hardly find 'monochrome' in my go-to UK stores.

The Guardian is reporting these trends: purple, 'goth vs sporty', capes, belts, leather, mini bags, statement eyebrows (LOL so much at this), wide shapes.

Asos has: gothic, baroque rocks!, leather, floral vs geometric, military, 'man up', eastern opulence, very berry, sci-fi/fantasy (most of the clothes they have in this category don't really say 'sci-fi/fantasy' to me though, DISAPPOINTED)

This guy is seriously on trend:

I'd say that Gothic and baroque were the more prevalent at the moment. Sci-fi / fantasy (McQueen), "statement eyebrows" (Chanel) and wide-shapes (CdG) were some of the most eye-catching AW show elements but i'm not sure they've filtered down as much as the others.

Temporarily Famous In The Czech Republic (ShariVari), Thursday, 6 September 2012 20:11 (eleven years ago) link

That's gorgeous.

The color is absurd but everything I wear is pretty low key so I think I could get away with it. now if only I had the money!

i don't even like green but i do love that

surm, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link

I don't like lime green much but I like it too! However, I definitely can't afford it now, I went and bought an APC coat (sale, from last season, but still).

lamp what are some good jeans? I don't like fake whiskering. It reminds me of that lousy chicken with painted on grill marks.

los blue jeans, Thursday, 20 September 2012 23:19 (eleven years ago) link

i really like the nudies i have theyre the basic selvage denim make but all my pairs are p old and dont really fit me that well anymore but theyve all worn in really well. i did do the dont wash for 6 months thing w/them tho

i also have a pair of naked and famous that i really like

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 15:54 (eleven years ago) link

Seen so many uptown-style girls lately with beaded collars on and was struck by a) their adorability, and b) the fact that...have they ever been out??? I mean they're like classic Anthropologie-bait and beloved by grandmas everywhere! I like decorative peter pan and contrast-color collars, a lot actually, but gimme a break.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 15:57 (eleven years ago) link

its more i think that they used to be daintier, lots of silk and lace and now beads are the thing. also i was at a party last night w/some fashion girls and two of them had metallic collars on that looked p chic

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 16:00 (eleven years ago) link

I've seen like 3 of them with faux pearls just in the last few days, it feels like.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 16:01 (eleven years ago) link

yeah they seem to be used more for contrast than compliment rn? like ime the shapes are bigger and more deco kinda referencing like the early 80s lanvin jewelry thats really chic rn

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 16:05 (eleven years ago) link

i dont know that i ever posted this on ilx but i expect Big Hats (like sun hats) (on ladies) to come back in a big way this upcoming spring/summer

flopson, Wednesday, 26 September 2012 16:08 (eleven years ago) link

Are we talking big bib like beaded necklaces or actual beaded collars attached to shirts?

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 September 2012 16:45 (eleven years ago) link

I went with a pair of the basic selvage RRL jeans. The saleswoman was all "NEVER WASH THEM" I was like "But" and she was like "NEVER WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU". Totally using this in my SNL audition.

los blue jeans, Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:09 (eleven years ago) link

haha

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link

i saw a woman wearing a beaded collar yesterday!
i think the difference btwn a collar and a necklace in this case is that the collar sits in a way that makes it appear to be a part of the shirt dress

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:19 (eleven years ago) link

my brain can't handle the not-washing jeans thing

I mean I can wear my jeans for a few days at a stretch but NEVER washing? jeez

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

x-post but we're still talking about jewelry and not an embellished item of clothing, right? Confusing!

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:26 (eleven years ago) link

I don't know, I just passed people quickly on the subway platform. Def seeing more peter pan-style collars even when they're not beaded or anything, just more little round collars on actual clothes--maybe there are also necklaces?

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:36 (eleven years ago) link

Oh yeah, peter pan collars are huge right now.

(✿◠‿◠) (ENBB), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

i have never washed my Nudie jeans, have had them for i don't know, 4 or 5 months? hardly wore them during height of summer though, but all good

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:49 (eleven years ago) link

i will wash them soon tho

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:49 (eleven years ago) link

well, maybe

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 27 September 2012 20:50 (eleven years ago) link

The saleswoman also said to hang them up outside in the cold to kill bacteria

los blue jeans, Wednesday, 3 October 2012 03:06 (eleven years ago) link

this afternoon i went to a warehouse sale featuring the fashions of many quebec designers. the kind of thing that includes three line-ups: to get in, to try things on, to buy things. the longest line was the latter. eesh. i tried on many things, mostly somehow dresses. but they were all just, well, last season and, more importantly, didn't feel like me. i really want more pants but i saw no pants i was into. i probably just need a really sweet pair of black jeans anyway!

so what i ended up buying is perhaps my first slightly severe-art-lady piece of clothing ever, in that it involves a belt, leather, warm fabric and a hood. it's like a grown-up hoodie. it was kind of expensive originally but ON SALE for a justifiable price.

also i bought a new purse yaaay except it doesn't have a fox on it like my old purse boo. but it is v nice nonetheless.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 4 October 2012 04:13 (eleven years ago) link

do u have a pic of your severe-art-lady-hoodie? it sounds fab

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 8 November 2012 21:15 (eleven years ago) link

it was used to sell a sequined miniskirt, which was fine and all but "statement bottoms"?!
i have just been reminded over and over again lately how much i hate having things sold to me with words
just show me a picture of the thing and let me decide if i want it

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Thursday, 8 November 2012 21:18 (eleven years ago) link

just be thankful they weren't referred to as "power bottoms"

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 8 November 2012 21:25 (eleven years ago) link

hahaha

you could really make a statement by wearing a power bottom

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Thursday, 8 November 2012 21:26 (eleven years ago) link

power bottoms are a good inventment because they are already broken in but are still EXTREMELY durable and very tough to wear out

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 8 November 2012 21:30 (eleven years ago) link

any jacket recs? I was thinking like a quilted barbour but I just dk

乒乓, Thursday, 8 November 2012 21:33 (eleven years ago) link

I went to the Eddie Bauer outlet after work and got a v nice down car coat in dark green, and a hooded thingy that sort of looks like raver puffy jacket but it was cheap and it's warm and i kind of love it.
