I've always wanted red hair actually.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:33 (nine years ago) link

Deal, let's swap.

I found a new pic of my current hair hate/crush where that hair looks just particularly BRUTAL (and also, more crucially, more messy than normal, so it would look more like the hair upon mine own head) and I keep reminding myself that winter is cold and I should wait until spring but my god I want that hair.

Even if I will not look like *that*, (not least because I don't wear anywhere near that amount of make-up, in fact, at all) I will just look like a potato with brutalist hair.

No, no, no, no, no, I'm so ASHAMED of who it is.

(it's a great fucken haircut, tho.)

????? No excuses. Is it Taylor Swift??? I'm down with that.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:40 (nine years ago) link

Come on, it's way, waaaaayyyyy worse than Taylor Swift.

Wait I'm making a shortlist:

Rihana
David Bowie

Justin Bieber.

Although for the record the Justin Bieber hairstyle is basically just "The Lesbian" so I'm not sure you can even say it's technically "his."

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:43 (nine years ago) link

FINE, I'll post it.

https://38.media.tumblr.com/751640ac4f17d1ce8ccf0ae4a8ff6a20/tumblr_nf1wetvqxq1rjw8sqo1_500.jpg

There, now you have hairpes.

It's kinda "Weimar Lesbian" meets "bedraggled goth dragged through a hedge backwards" which is much more achievable in my climate than the usual heavily ironed version.

(Not sure it would work in ginger, or without that much mascara on a daily basis.)

I AM SO ASHAMED.

I don't know who that is, so don't worry.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:52 (nine years ago) link

LOL, 30 seconds after I posted it on Tumblr to get the image online, one of my friends reblogged it adding 'WHO EVER SAID THAT HAIR WAS OK" so I'm guessing that's shock, horror and a "no" all round.

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:53 (nine years ago) link

I was trying to find the sketch comedy video where a cute boi tries a bunch of difft wigs at the hairstylist's and then says, "Oh what the hell, just give me the lesbian" and it's a haircut I've had 50 times, but in my search for "hairstyles 'the lesbian' " I came across a lot of awesome hair.

I know, I know, I know, and Goon Tie has told me 100 times it's time to claim that hairstyle back, but I am still ashamed.

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 23:00 (nine years ago) link

I think basically you have to be impossibly tall and skeletally thin and have cheekbones like Gothic arches to carry that hairstyle off effectively.

are bangs possible and/or recommended for a curly haired person? i straighten my hair 50% of the time.

xp I have bangs and curly hair. I am quite fond of them.

I feel like my forehead is too large not to have bangs, plus, my hair is very thick, and having bangs reduces its volume. Do ppl with thin/thinner hair have the opposite problem?

three weeks pass...

just to provide an accurate timeline for how long it takes me to reach my breaking point -- got the hairs cut yesterday.

vigetable (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 December 2014 16:53 (nine years ago) link

three months pass...

found my new favorite styling product for mah curly hair

Paul Mitchell Twirl Around. Just a little bit emulsified between yr palms, smoothed through the hairs and scrunched a bit, air dry and BOOM big old fat curls that are super soft and not at all crunchy or stiff or gross feeling. I tend not to do much hair-drying unless I'm going out-out, so the airdry is a huge plus. Never really explored Paul Mitchell products before but this one is a good un

it's like a softer, everyday version of the TiGi Curls Rock ie huge fat curls but Curls Rock was like drag queen mousse, you could wear that shit in a hurricane and yr hair wouldn't move.

I am entering the really, really annoying phase of growing out bangs. Next several weeks are gonna be aaaaargh.

I am kinda incredulous. . .it would not have occurred to me to use dry shampoo for this purpose, but KUDOS (I think).

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Friday, 3 April 2015 02:20 (nine years ago) link

ok can we talk abt dry shampoo styling etc

i am a new convert, and i like it!
what is yr technique - spray all over crown / lift & spray roots only / spray part /etc

i have curly hair so cannot brush it out unless i want to look like a straw broom, so i just sorta rub/pat it in

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 7 April 2015 18:03 (nine years ago) link

in addition to spraying mice lol :)

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 7 April 2015 18:04 (nine years ago) link

i try to spray on roots in as many general locations as i can, then tousle with fingers, then do whatever
the thought of tousling my hair just made me lol -- it sounds so much more alluring than it is irl

groundless round (La Lechera), Tuesday, 7 April 2015 18:05 (nine years ago) link

When my hair was longer, I would do the same as LL. It made my hair HUGE, which was great. I wonder how ridiculous it would look with short hair...

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Tuesday, 7 April 2015 19:07 (nine years ago) link

yeah i just shake my fingers through it, never brush it.

also: i know i've repped for this before but blowpro dry shampoo is THE BEST. it is cornstarch-based i think, has an ingenious design that dispenses a really fine mist of powder when you squeeze the bottle, and best of all NO SCENT. it gives a bit of volume, not as much as aerosol ones, but the great thing is that it's buildable - you can use it several days in a row without buildup.

i totally splurged on oribe texturizing/beach spray pretty much only bc it smells really nice.

just1n3, Tuesday, 7 April 2015 19:33 (nine years ago) link

my hair is v fine & goes flat if you look at it sideways so if i inadvertently end up with an afro then I will say hollaaaa

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 7 April 2015 19:41 (nine years ago) link

I use Frederic Fekkai Au Naturel Dry Shampoo which is non-aerosol and unscented. I may try blowpro dry shampoo--sounds similar and hopefully less $$$

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Tuesday, 7 April 2015 21:36 (nine years ago) link

ehh it's still kind of pricey - about $20 - but a bottle lasts me a really long time, and i use it probably 3-4 x p/w minimum

just1n3, Wednesday, 8 April 2015 00:11 (nine years ago) link

i put an egg yolk/olive oil mask on my hair last night bc it was looking gross & bumming me out

if i didn't want to read about it and i don't want to comparison shop, can someone recommend one of those no-poo shampoos? i don't want to make it myself and i don't want to reek of vinegar. i just want to try it out because i think it might help my ailing hair.

La Lechera, Thursday, 22 October 2015 22:06 (eight years ago) link

I have spent too much time at naturallycurly dot com, and the no-poo strategy of choice appears to be co-washing, which is just using a conditioner as though it were a shampoo (massaging it on your scalp as though you were sudsing, then rinsing out).

I prefer a no-sulfate (aka low-poo) myself--I like the Giovanni tea tree and 50/50 for that, also a sheamoisture low-poo that I'm currently using with a fruity kind of name.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 22 October 2015 23:07 (eight years ago) link

I'm going to go w your recommendation bc I have no stomach for comparison shopping -. Thanks!!

I also need a haircut but that's another issue.
