ooh adorable, I think I was looking at a similar pair in blue but ended up spending the rest of my money at zenni 'cause the glasses were a little cheaper and I was feel Christmas-related guilt

mineminefusic (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 12 October 2008 19:26 (seventeen years ago)

i love bangs. i am never going without bangs again. a 1" flat iron works wonders.

lauren, Sunday, 12 October 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

true!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 12 October 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

but yeah, t - i think to get the thick curtain effect, you have to go deep. my situation is different because of how short my hair is, but my bangs are like my whole head.

lauren, Sunday, 12 October 2008 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

i love your bangs!! i wish i could pull off an awesome geometric cut like yours but it is not in the cards with my face/body type.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 12 October 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

well, you never know. the woman i went to before sean basically refused to cut my hair like it is now because she thought my face was too round for it.

lauren, Sunday, 12 October 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

eff these whack opinionated hairstylists, man

mineminefusic (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 12 October 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

holy crap i am TOTALLY getting new glasses from that site!!!

Sarah Palin isn't dumb, she's post-modern (Rubyredd), Sunday, 12 October 2008 23:40 (seventeen years ago)

I got my hair cut on a whim yesterday and got it nice and sleek short at the back, kept it longish in the front, and had the woman even out my poorly cut straight-across bangs. I feel adorable! Wheee! No picture yet, but I'll get one up eventually. I cut off 90% of my damaged, formerly-blonde hair and it all feels so much healthier!

mineminefusic (Finefinemusic), Friday, 17 October 2008 19:39 (seventeen years ago)

I'm going to get this. I don't know how to describe it, but this kind of really thinned out with a blunt bottom is really popular in LA.

felicity, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 23:41 (seventeen years ago)

Oooh, I like that! I am getting my hair chopped again on Friday and may have to ask him to thin it out. It's too poofy and boring at the moment. I am really tempted to get the cut Lauren recommended last time I just don't know if I have th guts!

Lil Nunu (ENBB), Thursday, 23 October 2008 01:24 (seventeen years ago)

ugh i still need to make an appt. schefter needs to send me info for her colorist!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Thursday, 23 October 2008 01:33 (seventeen years ago)

enbb, get the cut!!!!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Thursday, 23 October 2008 01:33 (seventeen years ago)

OK I got my hair did and it's so short! I think I like it but am still in shock. I was just really bored with old hair. I look a little startled and sleepy cause I just woke up so ignore that. I'm gonna play around with it when I style it tomorrow.

eek.

Lil Nunu (ENBB), Friday, 24 October 2008 23:21 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't get the Lauren cut because I didn't print out the pic before going in. :-( If I can go this short though I can probably go that short. Maybe next time.

Lil Nunu (ENBB), Friday, 24 October 2008 23:24 (seventeen years ago)

the one i posted might be a bit shorter on the sides, but i think it's actually longer/thicker in the front. in any case - cute!

lauren, Saturday, 25 October 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

I got a wig (bagged) at Ricky's for Halloween. It is supposed to be a chin length black bob, but when I tried it on at home, it looks nothing like that. It's sort of a mop, with some longer pieces in front. And it cost $20!

Virginia Plain, Sunday, 26 October 2008 02:28 (seventeen years ago)

ugh! can you return or exchange it? if i were you, i'd go back and complain.

lauren, Sunday, 26 October 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

yeah definitely! e, i think if you are willing to do that cut, you should DEFINITELY get lauren's suggested cut next time!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 26 October 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)

Well, they told me when I bought it that it was non-refundable. When I asked if I could open the box and try it on, they said I would have to pay $2 for a hair net. But I think I will bring it back anyway, just to let them know that the actual wig looks nothing like the picture.

Today on St. Marks I happened upon the wig I really wanted, which was not in a box, which they let me try on, but which unfortunately also cost $20. So now my Halloween-costume expenditure is $40, for the top of my head alone.

For the record, Rubie's Fashion Wig, Super Model, looks nothing like pictured:

Virginia Plain, Monday, 27 October 2008 03:18 (seventeen years ago)

what is your costume?!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 27 October 2008 03:22 (seventeen years ago)

Sigh. I got a haircut last week, a glorified trim for almost $100. This hair thing is a total rip-off, isn't it? It looks totally fine, but I suspect it would have looked fine for $30 too.

Vampire romances depend on me (Laurel), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:06 (seventeen years ago)

I paid $32 including tip for my last haircut. It's been a week or so and it's staying strong, I love it. I was just very specific with the hairstylist (and ensured I picked someone with funky hair of her own.. but of course you really want whoever CUT the hair of your hairdresser, right?)

skeletal lexing (Finefinemusic), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:08 (seventeen years ago)

So happy not to be paying $100+ as I was doing with my previous hairstylist, ugh.

skeletal lexing (Finefinemusic), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:09 (seventeen years ago)

my last haircut (also a trim - to the extent that no one even noticed i'd done anything) was $68 + tip. and the dude fucked up my bangs. total fucking joke.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:10 (seventeen years ago)

I'm going to try one more person before Christmas, at Lauren's suggestion, and I'm going to give her free reign and see what happens. For $110. If that doesn't result in something notable, I'm going to either b+b student days or Crappy Chain Salon for my trims 4eva.

Vampire romances depend on me (Laurel), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:15 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, I don't know what kind of chains are available in your area, but I went to a Trade Secrets one. I was also drunk. It was kind of a silly, spur-of-the-moment thing after a couple too many drinks at dinner with my stepfather. Thankfully it turned out alright!

skeletal lexing (Finefinemusic), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:16 (seventeen years ago)

laurel - you're entitled to a free consultation at my place before you commit, btw.

lauren, Monday, 27 October 2008 14:27 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, rock.

Vampire romances depend on me (Laurel), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

Ok - now that I'm styling it myself I actually really like the length of my hair but am unsure about a couple things. Is it really really rude to go back and ask them to fix something you don't like?

Lil Nunu (ENBB), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

i used to have an amazing stylist who was just some chick who worked at the mall regis salon in rochester. i wish she was here.

oooh lauren, i am intrigued by this consulting! laurel - i had a really good cut for $20 at the aveda institute. the bonus is that the teacher comes through and makes sure everything is perfect, so you basically end up w/ a really good cut that was mostly done by the student and finished off by a really good stylist. only problem: i recently called for an appt and was on hold for 10 years. no one ever picked up.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:32 (seventeen years ago)

not at all, e!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 27 October 2008 14:32 (seventeen years ago)

My newish haircut looks exactly like the wig Virginia posted! Tombot does not like the bangs :(

quincie, Monday, 27 October 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)

i had that haircut for a brief period!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 27 October 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

bangs rule!

lauren, Monday, 27 October 2008 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

TRUTH!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Monday, 27 October 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

Bangs are best! I have managed to eradicate my cowlick almost completely, I had Bettie Page bangs the other day. Yay bangs!

skeletal lexing (Finefinemusic), Monday, 27 October 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

tombot doesn't like bangs, period, quincie. i wouldn't be too bummed about that review.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Monday, 27 October 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

I love bangs. And they are quite convenient as you get older and need to mask forehead lines. Mine grow out way too fast though--I am going to put my foot down for '50s bangs next time. My costume is Trixie from Speed Racer, but the original wig had me looking more like a Beatles fan in anime clothing. Laurel, where did you go?

Virginia Plain, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 04:07 (seventeen years ago)

Lovemore & Do, in the EV, but with a stylist who lives upstate and is only in the city occasionally. She was awesome and I would love to be her friend! But my haircut, it is perfectly adequate and I think not really suited for complicated stuff that ought to cost so much.

Vampire romances depend on me (Laurel), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 15:19 (seventeen years ago)

i am seriously considering just stopping in at supercuts for my next cut. my hair is looking so so so shitty right now, and i have no idea about any of the salons round here.

undiscovered cuntry (Rubyredd), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 15:21 (seventeen years ago)

L., I think for just a trim, you might not get much difference with the pricier place. I think the pricier places are good at layers, styles, angles, color, etc. I think also if you say "just a trim" the stylist assumes you don't really want anything different to be done to your hair. When I used to have long straight hair, I never went to an expensive place, and I used to always ask for just a trim.

Virginia Plain, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 04:08 (seventeen years ago)

some crappy stylists can end up changing your style with 'just a trim' though. like, they fuck up the layering or angles, or just don't follow how it's already cut/shaped.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 04:17 (seventeen years ago)

The bowl-cut mistake-wig might come in handy after all. Any ideas for a costume that could make use of it for a dress like a rock-star karaoke event?

Virginia Plain, Thursday, 30 October 2008 01:34 (seventeen years ago)

so today, while waiting for my bf while he was at the dentist, i walked into a slightly dodgy looking asian hair salon and asked if they could cut my hair on the spot. now i somehow have ended up with a 'bob'.

undiscovered cuntry (Rubyredd), Friday, 31 October 2008 02:34 (seventeen years ago)

I bet it looks cute!

Lil Nunu (ENBB), Friday, 31 October 2008 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

with my mousey brown hair, it looks kind of 'suburban mom'

undiscovered cuntry (Rubyredd), Friday, 31 October 2008 03:53 (seventeen years ago)

guys. im thinking seriously about chocolate brown. talk me out of it. quick.

DC Purrman (sunny successor), Friday, 31 October 2008 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

You are the ultimate blonde! You love blondes!

Lil Nunu (ENBB), Friday, 31 October 2008 04:10 (seventeen years ago)

no wai sunny!

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Friday, 31 October 2008 04:12 (seventeen years ago)
