rrrobyn had an awesome hair-dying experience. then she went to thanksgiving dinner and got drunk. then she said we should all go to mtl for hair and robyn fulfillment, which sounds like a great excuse to go to mtl to me, and she thought that was cool.

b-b-but Thanksgiving is not until next month???? And I don't have a clue what mtl is??? *cries for failure to understand*

lol us tricksy canadians, using weird acronyms (t-dot represent!) and having holidays on the wrong weekends... not to mention sticking "u"s in where they aren't normally...
anyway guys I usually wear my bangs to one side because of massive cowlicks of doom, but I have been experimenting this week and am kind of liking them straight across, though they aren't as perfect as most peoples'... opinions??
also my hair is kind of two different colours and that is sad but people keep stopping me on the street to complement the colour so I think I can live with it.. dyeing it a few weeks back saved me from having to get it cut and now I am unsure whether I want to cut it or grow it.. ahh, decisions. I may let it grow out even more so I can do a more angled bob next time.

joe sixpack - i think the cut looks great! At first I thought they were front/side views of the same cut instead of before/after and I was a little scared.
― mineminefusic (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 12 October 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)
i very much like them straight across!
― highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 12 October 2008 17:57 (seventeen years ago)
yay! I feel like a "poser" (Canadians: "hoser") because they are bumpy and uneven and I am not, you know, whatsherface with the bangs from PRAus.. but my big dumb forehead has been hogging the glory for 25 years, I want to put it away for a while!
― mineminefusic (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 12 October 2008 18:02 (seventeen years ago)
omg what's her name.. those bangs were INCREDIBLE. i feel like every time i try to do the straight across bang, i can't get a hair dresser to cut them thick enough so that they'll lay well - i think that's a trick to it. if they are too thin, they mess up too easily. i see all these girls w/ the perfect bangs but they start like, halfway back on their heads. meanwhile, my hair dressers never want to give me the weight i desire in a bang. maybe they are looking out for me? i don't know.

ok tips plz! can i get away with a mahogany shade? what do i do to make growing out less tedious?!

I also suffer from the cowlick that makes the straight-across bangs somewhat challenging--the trick for me seems to be hitting them with a hot blow dryer as soon as I get out of the shower, getting them dead dry while combing them down with a fine-tooth comb. The rest of my hair I let air dry a bit as I do the coffee/paper/b'fast routine.
It is my back-of-the-head cowlick, however, that creates a major challenge. Doesn't help that I can't see it too well while attempting to tame it.
― quincie, Sunday, 12 October 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)
BTW finefine your bangs and color are v. v. adorable.
― quincie, Sunday, 12 October 2008 18:27 (seventeen years ago)
i have this one section of hair in the back right quadrant that ALWAYS flips out. no amount of flat ironing can fix it. it has a mind of its own.
― highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 12 October 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)
I think you could probably do mahogany but the slight shadow on your face obscures the skin tone slightly.. but you're talking to a girl with darkish red hair on top and almost orange ends, so take what I say with a grain of salt :P I think that the new hair colour helps make the growing out a little easier - it made my own split ends look a little better when I re-did them recently, though I did a shit job and I am losing colour fast on the ends (I bleached my hair for 3-4 years straight so it barely holds colour - you can see how some parts look kind of silvery/pinkish)
I also like to mess around with new styles when I am growing it out - sometimes I do a crazy mass of bobby pins holding my hair back in a birds nest sort of way, or this week I have been fiddling with my bangs to make my hair look different but still fun.
The PRAus girl with the bangs - Pavlova? I am all mixed up because I'm still watching AusNTM with Paloma on it.. such cute names! oh, googled it - Petrova! I can't find one damn picture of her but yeah, I have been snipping away extra pieces of hair and pretty soon 99% of my head will be pulled forward to create a fringe to rival hers. I think my hairdressers have been looking out for me but also lazy: everyone has said "oh with that cowlick you will NEVER be able to wear them straight across" and while it is bumpy and not sleek - well, neither am I.
vvcool that winner (no names incase Sunny d/ls it) was as nice as she seemed! I was rooting for the #2 but all three were so fun.
― mineminefusic (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 12 October 2008 18:48 (seventeen years ago)
yeah lighting not so good in my room. i am very fair with mostly pink undertones i think (unless someone who knwos me has noticed something different and would like to speak up). i generally only wear cool colors. i was thinking maybe something kate walshy? she's a little darker these days - not that bright red she had before.
― highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 12 October 2008 18:52 (seventeen years ago)
weird, i am googling her and sometimes she has nice fair skin and otehr times she has this weird bronzey color. i hate when pale people try to sunless tan.
― highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 12 October 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)
ooh yeah, something a little like this? http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2007/stylewatch/gallery/red_lips/kate_walsh.jpg I think that colour's very pretty and since it's a pretty natural shade it's bound to look flattering! I have pinkish skin (obviously, I gave you a closeup up there) and I find extreme dark or extreme light work for me, but medium browns make me look bor-ing. Sadly if you look at my eyebrows - medium brown is my natural colour. Thank god for hair dye.
hahah yeah I noticed that too - I try to discount celebrities' skin colour altogether since it's always so schizo.
― mineminefusic (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 12 October 2008 18:57 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, i like that shade! i want something to make me pop a little more but that's not TOO outrageous. i lovvve your shade but i don't think i have the time/patience/money for upkeep at this point in my life. i also have medium brown natural color. it's kind of awful. i grew it out for 8 months then gave up and put a semiperm on it that ended up making it look black. it's calmed down now (6 weeks later) but i am bored again.
― highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 12 October 2008 19:01 (seventeen years ago)
hahaha I don't have the money for my hair either so I stopped going to the salon and bought the dye to DIY it and it has been fading faster than when I did it professionally - but for a lot less money at least! I think a brown with a nice cherry hue to it would really work, especially since winter is coming (don't know where you live or if you have a winter haha.. I'll share some of mine if you don't)
― mineminefusic (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 12 October 2008 19:03 (seventeen years ago)
yeah cherry is a shade i <3 very much so i was thinking of a brown with cherry in it. now i have to find someone to do it. argh.
i live in nyc. sometimes we have winter. sometimes not so much. but trust me, i spent 6 years in rochester, ny, just across the lake from you, so i have had my share of lake effect!

mwahahahaha the funny thing I read whilst googling the company is that their glasses come in the weirdest packaging - glasses themselves wrapped securely in a hard shell case but the case is pretty much mailed in a cloth bag? very weird but shipping is free and it's coming from pakistan so ... there are a few different blogs with pictures of their glasses and comments on the quality and the general consensus was for $25 (glasses, frames and free shipping) it was a damn good deal. I ordered these:

glee!
oh, you mentioned lake effect and now I am remembering how cold I am about to get, hahaha. today is a ridiculously beautiful sunny day in toronto (probably the last til march) and I am stuck in my office! booo!

but yeah, t - i think to get the thick curtain effect, you have to go deep. my situation is different because of how short my hair is, but my bangs are like my whole head.

i love your bangs!! i wish i could pull off an awesome geometric cut like yours but it is not in the cards with my face/body type.

well, you never know. the woman i went to before sean basically refused to cut my hair like it is now because she thought my face was too round for it.

I got my hair cut on a whim yesterday and got it nice and sleek short at the back, kept it longish in the front, and had the woman even out my poorly cut straight-across bangs. I feel adorable! Wheee! No picture yet, but I'll get one up eventually. I cut off 90% of my damaged, formerly-blonde hair and it all feels so much healthier!

I'm going to get this. I don't know how to describe it, but this kind of really thinned out with a blunt bottom is really popular in LA.

Oooh, I like that! I am getting my hair chopped again on Friday and may have to ask him to thin it out. It's too poofy and boring at the moment. I am really tempted to get the cut Lauren recommended last time I just don't know if I have th guts!

OK I got my hair did and it's so short! I think I like it but am still in shock. I was just really bored with old hair. I look a little startled and sleepy cause I just woke up so ignore that. I'm gonna play around with it when I style it tomorrow.
eek.

I didn't get the Lauren cut because I didn't print out the pic before going in. :-( If I can go this short though I can probably go that short. Maybe next time.
― Lil Nunu (ENBB), Friday, 24 October 2008 23:24 (seventeen years ago)
the one i posted might be a bit shorter on the sides, but i think it's actually longer/thicker in the front. in any case - cute!
― lauren, Saturday, 25 October 2008 02:08 (seventeen years ago)
I got a wig (bagged) at Ricky's for Halloween. It is supposed to be a chin length black bob, but when I tried it on at home, it looks nothing like that. It's sort of a mop, with some longer pieces in front. And it cost $20!
― Virginia Plain, Sunday, 26 October 2008 02:28 (seventeen years ago)
ugh! can you return or exchange it? if i were you, i'd go back and complain.
― lauren, Sunday, 26 October 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)
yeah definitely! e, i think if you are willing to do that cut, you should DEFINITELY get lauren's suggested cut next time!
― highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Sunday, 26 October 2008 19:50 (seventeen years ago)
Well, they told me when I bought it that it was non-refundable. When I asked if I could open the box and try it on, they said I would have to pay $2 for a hair net. But I think I will bring it back anyway, just to let them know that the actual wig looks nothing like the picture.
Today on St. Marks I happened upon the wig I really wanted, which was not in a box, which they let me try on, but which unfortunately also cost $20. So now my Halloween-costume expenditure is $40, for the top of my head alone.
For the record, Rubie's Fashion Wig, Super Model, looks nothing like pictured:
