There seems to be a lot of neon or bright stuff around - really doesn’t suit me.

Various 90s trends that I remember but was too young for the first time and I don’t want to do now.

i didn't know that was called cold-shoulder tops and it was a thing! My friend gets this great extra employee discount at one affiliate store a couple times a year and he always asks if I want anything. The last time I looked online everything was either a jumpsuit or this cold shoulder top and I was like, WTF. They are HORRIBLE.

I like that color palate listed above. I wish I could wear more warm colors. I actually love all shades of green, yellow and orange too. I hate purple so I dunno.

split knee jeans in the middle of winter. Just seems stupidly impractical. Does it even look that good to anybody?

Always wonder who repopularised it, & always associate it with the Ramones, so did somebody do a photoshoot in homage to them or something? & now it seems to have been around in this town at least for the last few years so you would think it was old hat by now.

I hate sheer anything and shirts and one piece bathing suits that are way too short in the torso. I'm not even tall so I have no clue how tall women deal with this.

I also hate t shirts that have "mommy wine o'clock" types of sayings on them.

Wait I’m still really confused about “buffalo boots”. Do you mean biker boots? I just got a pair with big buckles and I LOVE them but I used to wear “giant shitkickers” back in the day so they feel right to me.

I love cold shoulder tops because I love my shoulders and they’re about the only things I feel comfortable exposing but I only like plain black ones. Anything with a print and cut out seems too complicated.

I’ve been trying to be more daring with clothes and wear what I like even if I don’t think I can pull it off or if it’s not my usual style. I recently bought a jumpsuit which I NEVER thought I’d do but it looks so cute! Mind you I haven’t actually worn it yet.

oh speaking of 90s trends -- I'm seeing crepe pants now, and I remember buying/wearing these in the 90s, and they would end up shrinking awkwardly in the wash and also developing holes ... part of me wants to save younger women through my lol-experience, but, i feel like, we all need to have these experiences personally in order to really learn

idk there are a bunch of crop tops/sweaters floating around ... and I actually do have a short torso, and I generally don't like them because they end at my waist, and i like being tucked in at the waist, and also, I do things like a normal person does, like stretch, grab things off higher shelves ... though i will wear a crop sweater or cardigan over a shirt that tucks in or a dress, and feel cute.

i'm very short so i love a crop top/sweater

although like sarahell i usually wear a tank top/something underneath to prevent any eyes from reaching my torso flesh/prevent anyone's eyes from burning on account of having laid themselves upon my torso flesh/protect myself from people looking at my torso flesh tbh

but do they hit you at the natural waist, or above, or is it just that the non-crop versions are too long and make you feel like a child playing dress up? (i feel that way about wide leg pants btw)

I mean I'm not into the dadcore puffy white sneaker shoes thing but that's not just for women, that's everywhere in hi-fashion right now I think? Not sure who is actually wearing them irl, but since I never make it into Manhattan or anywhere anymore, maybe I'm just not seeing it.

Leggings have surpassed jeans in popularity. Very weird. Jeans aren't a "staple" anymore. Even I wear non-jeans pants now. Lol

Tbf jeans are not that comfortable for me and never were--unless they're super baggy they definitely inhibit movement and ability to sit comfortably. My ultimate goal is to wear nothing with a waistband ever again.

I used to be very vocal about being able to wear jeans on friday as a corporate reward WAS NOT A REAL REWARD.

Last fall I was at a place where the "charitable giving jeans summer fridays" had just ended and people in my department so questioned whether they could still wear jeans that calls to HR were placed, opining about whether they could get it in writing, going to the department head to confirm, texting the morning of the non-jeans friday to find out what people were wearing, an emergency stop to Anne Taylor to get regular trousers, more texts. It was insanity and completely compelling.

Most of my jeans have some sort of stretch content in them, so they are more comfortable than traditional jeans, except for the pair of Lane Bryant bootcuts that I've had for like 10 years, but the comfort factor there is def due to how long i've had them ... but for "comfort" i don't wear jeans, but leggings or tights with a kneelength or midcalf housedress. Baggy sweaterdresses are also a thing i like.

I love oversized. But re pants: def jeans person. Esp boyfriend ones. Leggings? I only very rarely wear'em with something oversized. Don't like to flash my bum. Lol.

although i do have a pair of high waisted jeggings that i wear just like normal jeans and if someone recoils from the sight of my body in this garment that's their eyes getting burnt, not mine

i laugh at it too! ... omg that reminds me of this time, I had an interview with a new client and i wore a pair of not at all high waisted jeggings because they were at the top of the stack of pants-like-clothing and I had a massive hangover from the night before ... and it was very very awkward ... and those jeggings have summarily been retired and are currently being used as a source of fabric to sew into the gaps of cold shoulder sweaters and knit tops

Why are women's suits so uniformly terrible?

Both with skirt and trousers. I saw a super nice menswear styled suit on someone yesterday and it looked so great. Every single time I have had to look at suits it's impossible to find one where they don't try to embellish it with a weird zipper, sleeve, pocket, peplum or fabric.

ha weird sleeves are a "thing" ... i do like peplums tho. ... on a related note, i am seeing a lot of navy & white pinstripes, but no black & white pinstripes ... i've been wanting a good pair of black and white pinstripe pants for a while now.

I like peplums too but not on suit jackets although I probably have a blazer with a peplum. I like suits to be really linear which is a problem when there are boobs involved.

Yeah I prefer 3 buttons but that typically does not work with my body. I really really hate those two horizontal buttons they do sometimes. And I also really hate the huge ass decorative buttons they do.

I remember having to get a last minute suit once thinking it wouldn't be an issue, especially in nyc but it was totally an issue. I hit j crew, banana republic, burlington, macys, and I must've hit some weird gap between seasons because there was absolutely nothing that wasn't matronly or full of "pizzazz." I think I finally found a plain black normal skirt suit but it still had a leopard print lining that made me want to barf.

I like jackets that have the buttons higher up -- the ones that have buttons where mens' suits typically do -- tend to lead to unflattering puckering and tightness in the waist and hips. ... i came to the conclusion not that long ago, that the key is less the jacket, and more the skirt or pants and how well it fits in the waist and flows down from there. ... I used to try to make the jacket serve as camouflage for the flaws of the skirt/pants.

basically, if the top and skirt/pants look great, the jacket is kinda like window dressing. I also tend to create a suit out of separates, which might not be appropriate in all situations

I kind of went to the easiness of just wearing a dress with a blazer over it.

Why they are bad and hated by me:
1. They end up hitting near the middle of my stomach, and accentuating it, which I don’t want
2. They make me feel like a gift-wrapped package or holiday poultry
3. They will too often come undone or if tied too tightly make it annoying to efficiently shit and wipe

100% same, garments that tie at the waist are not made for me, cf whenever "paper bag" waists come around again. Genuinely nothing could make me look worse, I'd rather wear a shapeless sack that at least wouldn't cut me in half when I sit down.

My summer wardrobe is leaning into shapeless sacks fyi

I no longer live in a hot, humid climate, but when I did I embraced muumuu life.

Drawstrings mean tying a knot so you don’t have to worry about it coming undone and your pants falling down in public, and at my perimenopausal middle age, when I gotta pee I GOTTA PEE and can’t be fumbling with a knot.

My summer uniform for the past two and this one is: denim mini, hilarious graphic tee, Birkin Yara sandals/white high tops that I sewed little charms onto.

Yes, the knotty pee problem is real.

I am heat averse, so I go with hilarious graphic tank and bike shorts/cut-off leggings that are at least 90% cotton… or loose midaxi dress over the bike shorts …
