i gave them an honest chance when i went to their store on la brea (la) and it just wasn't my thing

i went to the bonobos store on 5th ave (right next to the untucked shirt store!) b/c i desperately needed pants and they told me i couldn't actually buy any pants there, i would have to order them and then pick them up later--"this is a showroom." fuck a showroom for pants.

the weirdest thing about untuckit to me is that lots of shirts look fine untucked. it's not a really rare attribute of a shirt

I mean I have just found the quality of Bonobos products to be really bad for the money. There was a point at which they had my favorite polo shirt but then more recently I ordered some and they had clearly changed -- collars baconed after one wash (cold, hang dry) and never returned to normal. Their dress shirts feel rough and don't hang well on me, even the higher end ones (I bought one once on clearance). The pants are actually mostly fine, better than everlane, and I have gotten work pants from them a couple times.

Oh wait Untuckit is the most amazingly stupid name. But accurate?

Bonobos trousers — on sale — are a good deal. Nice colors, good fit. Haven’t tried their expensive shirts.

Admittedly I blame Amazon for some of the more outrageous ones, like Qpladlse, Eomenie, Arinla, Quartly, Femaroly, Ladninag, Mansy, Romacci, Fumic, Sellse, YESNO, Floerns, AUSILY, etc.

lol i have outlier jeans and a weird rain jacket thing from them and theyre both fantastic. tbh i like a bunch of their "Experiments" as i also love cowl necks and clothes made out of nanites or helicopter sheeting or living silk but they are often sold out when i think about getting them which tbh isnt all that often

feel like "ex-fratboy" is slotting the brand into the wrong sociological framework tho

i think outlier (and other post-workwear non-luxury brands) are kind of interesting partly because their customers are sort of undefined but they have this unifying aesthetic nonetheless. like "guys with non-media jobs that live in cities"? but i like their focus on process and material, i like that they are trying to engage with technology in a way that isnt just like, "this is sweater but also an app" or w/e. fwiw i spent the morning e-mailing back & forth w/a store seeing if they could get me this thermal storage hooded so

There’s actually a SuperDry store in a mall around here but I’ve generally thought of it more as a eurotrash brand and I usually assume people wearing it are tourists or recent immigrants.

speaking of Britisher apparel, my local Nordstrom has a Topman boutique and I just don't get it that line. Everything seems overstyled, like defiantly anti-classic, and that is fine, it's just that the directions it tends toward seem so "off", and tacky or obnoxious. Really not unlike Chess King (for other yanks) back in the day.

if you want some wool trousers, chinos etc that fit slim topman is not bad. it is sort of a british dandy basic bitch version of hot topic for people who probably wish they were big enough twats to buy everything from tom baker instead. THAT SAID i have bought things from topman and i daresay i'll do it again
