There is one pair of jeans made by naked and famous nicknames “the Monster” that cost over $500 and are 32 oz per square yard. (Most jeans are like 12-15). They stand up on their own. People call them the “Mount Everest” of jeans because they’re so hard to break in and post pictures of themselves like 1, 2 and 3 years in, after daily wear and barely any washes, commenters gathering around in awe of the “sick fades.”

The fades are pretty sick tbf but the jeans still look like they’re made of hard plastic and I’m sure it’s impossible to sit down.

Trϵϵship, Monday, 15 October 2018 02:29 (seven years ago)

now I just want some chucks made out of broken-in selvedge sleeping bags

that was the point of this thread from the beginning, wasn’t it

El Tomboto, Monday, 15 October 2018 02:41 (seven years ago)

there is a whole universe of these raw denim fade-bois

Trϵϵship, Monday, 15 October 2018 02:51 (seven years ago)

lag∞n, Monday, 15 October 2018 03:11 (seven years ago)

Commando jeans

F# A# (∞), Monday, 15 October 2018 05:32 (seven years ago)

Ugh, want a Patagonia retro x, pref in cream or moss green but the insane markup on vintage ones atm I mean. Also paying so much for 100% polyester is ridiculous. What are the decent knockoffs???? Gotta be a lot of this right now given that every UCL undergrad I see is wearing one

plax (ico), Monday, 15 October 2018 18:41 (seven years ago)

I really don't get selvedge denim. It looks bad until it fades, and when it fades it looks like any other pre-faded jeans.

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Monday, 15 October 2018 19:56 (seven years ago)

you’re confusing selvedge and raw

the late great, Monday, 15 October 2018 19:57 (seven years ago)

yeah

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Monday, 15 October 2018 19:59 (seven years ago)

wanna be clear that i dont care about this but it fades —to your body— so it looks better than a store bought fade

lag∞n, Monday, 15 October 2018 20:25 (seven years ago)

i mean i like the way it looks before it fades, and as it fades i like the fades much more than any pre-faded pair i've ever worn. don't mean to be captain raw up in here but i have been wearing almost only raw denim for the past few years and i really enjoy it. also really forms to your body and feels properly comfortable in a way that buying a new pair of cheap jeans and wearing them til the crotch rips and starting over never quite does. (i have had to get rips repaired before, which feels great cos the jeans feel good as new and still fit you like they did before)

actually wearing a pair of big john jeans that a friend gave me for free (!) right now -- been wearing them for quite some time and they really haven't started to fade at all yet, and they're in that kinda 90s jerry seinfeld almost-cerulean blue, and i gotta say i am ok if these things never fade.

they're in that kinda 90s jerry seinfeld almost-cerulean blue

Now this, otoh, is something I've been seeking out -- the perfect unfaded medium blue. But my understanding is that that's a "wash" look rather than raw, no?

Fedora Dostoyevsky (man alive), Monday, 15 October 2018 20:39 (seven years ago)

this is the denim i have (although they are not that baggy lol) -- after a month or two they get way less "shiny," kinda just leaving you with that nice blue colour. apparently they fade like this but i'm nowhere near that (and probably won't be for a very long time -- i'm assuming those were worn in indonesia or malaysia or something, where ppl are obsessed with raw denim and it i guess fades super well because of the heat or humidity or some other thing made up by denim nerds)

i'll try to get a pic of mine at some point today if i can find time and light!

I actually really like the idea of getting one really good pair of jeans, maybe expensive. But I worry that at the rate I would wear them (maybe once or twice a month?) it would take something like 20 years for them to break in.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 00:28 (seven years ago)

We r all gonna fade 1 day

F# A# (∞), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 01:54 (seven years ago)

i got some levi's 511 "rigid dragon" which is apparently raw but "sanforized." they're really dark, barely even blue, i love them. that's how i started googling raw denim and getting into this rabbit hole.

Trϵϵship, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 01:58 (seven years ago)

by the by, check this selvedge kimono

https://www.heddels.com/2015/01/naked-famous-selvedge-lyocell-kimono/

Trϵϵship, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 02:16 (seven years ago)

Aw I was really hoping for a proper full length kimono. Possibly to be dismayed by.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 16 October 2018 05:01 (seven years ago)

I really like that, its a much more like hanten than a kimono though. I've been looking for a hanten style jacket as I think they look really good.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 16 October 2018 05:43 (seven years ago)

most raw denim is gonna be sanforized! unsanforized is for people far more intense than me, those are the ones you have to buy big and then soak and wear soaked for a day so they shrink to fit, too much commitment for me

But I worry that at the rate I would wear them (maybe once or twice a month?) it would take something like 20 years for them to break in.

maybe, but once they start to break in they're gonna feel soooo good for the rest of yr life

would like to see the fit on those Big Johns from the rear though.

Zachary Taylor, Saturday, 27 October 2018 21:18 (seven years ago)

I'm wear Unbranded 21oz red weft jeans right now in the natural tapered fit. It's kind of an early '90s fit with too much material in the butt and thigh and a medium taper. They're a more affordable offshoot of Naked and Famous if anyone wants to try thick denim.

Zachary Taylor, Saturday, 27 October 2018 21:24 (seven years ago)

man i havent fd w raw denim in years, u know what jeans i had a while ago that i really liked were these hank jobenhavn tapered united

the dutiful and the banned (rip van wanko), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 00:06 (seven years ago)

my bod is ready, my mind is not

the dutiful and the banned (rip van wanko), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 00:07 (seven years ago)

big pants been back for awhile man! in london last year it seemed your were nothing, worse than scum, if you were a woman who didn't own a pair of black wide-legged capris

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 00:10 (seven years ago)

the pants are fine if you're going for a trad thing. it's hard to tell from that angle if the jacket could be shaped a little more, but my guess is it's too boxy.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 00:49 (seven years ago)

Whether they’re back or not, one thing i will say about big pants is that i always preferred slightly baggier pants, as opposed to the tight ones so many people wear. many brands seem to only offer this fit though

I could never even fit my calves into any of them

F# A# (∞), Tuesday, 30 October 2018 00:58 (seven years ago)

ya i cld never wear skinny jeans i have huge legs and ass thats why i like taper its kinda like skinny but for a huge legs and ass lifestyle

lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 01:05 (seven years ago)

big ankle pants been coming back steadily for years, maybe a couple years til the peak in my estimation

flopson, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 01:41 (seven years ago)

i dont think theyll be ubiquitous any time soon, more of a novelty

lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 01:42 (seven years ago)

fell the greater trend is more just toward normal size/type pants for men at least

lag∞n, Tuesday, 30 October 2018 01:44 (seven years ago)

a 501 style jean if u will and so forth
