Universal works do pleated trousers. I haven’t tried them but I do really like their Aston pants & they’re kind of baggy

I can't believe I'm gonna go back to pleats but it seems the time is now

Joe Gargan (dandydonweiner), Thursday, 17 May 2018 01:37 (eight years ago)

honestly if you guys want pleated trousers w classic proportions you might check here: https://luxeswap.myshopify.com/collections/pants

chinavision!, Thursday, 17 May 2018 01:53 (eight years ago)

or even Brioni pleated trousers are pretty affordable, along with many other Italian brands, cuz it still scans to most people as old man pants. the people want bonobos.

chinavision!, Thursday, 17 May 2018 01:59 (eight years ago)

and I basically think suitsupply is good but their pants are the worst thing they make. they're all basically stuck on skinny fit.

chinavision!, Thursday, 17 May 2018 02:00 (eight years ago)

hey wait if I'm almost 50 then I scan as myself?

Joe Gargan (dandydonweiner), Thursday, 17 May 2018 02:08 (eight years ago)

If this thread is seriously ready to get into pleated pants then I think it’s time for a new thread. Or maybe even a “str8 fire epic trousers” thread unto itself.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 17 May 2018 02:55 (eight years ago)

that's a very anachronistic view, pants and suit styles are cyclical by decade. pleats have been tracing in for a couple years, will be big old normie shit within a few years, and by the time everyone has them again the peak style will have shifted

they're somewhat slimmer pleats this iteration but the fashion boundary is straight-up 90s

great stuff! this guy's look is also on my mood board https://i.imgur.com/57cIReQ.jpg

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Thursday, 17 May 2018 03:02 (eight years ago)

oddly enough, i'm seeing a lot of stylish women rocking the pleat+billow combo lately

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Thursday, 17 May 2018 03:08 (eight years ago)

a thread about clothing that laughs and says 'haha, those dated clothes are just *too* ridiculous to take seriously ever again, we're much cooler than that now' has at least sort of admitted the limitations of its framework

chinavision!, Thursday, 17 May 2018 03:21 (eight years ago)

or something. I'm not lagoon, can't really fake the style. but there's something funny about acting like we've learned all the good lessons about which clothes work and which don't. and I'm someone who is offended when a double breasted blazer has a center vent.

lmao the guy who's posted like novelty converse as if they're good chimes in

call all destroyer, Thursday, 17 May 2018 03:33 (eight years ago)

tbh some styles are such fucking compromises between norm and interesting that they are worth mocking but history may save us all

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ (mh), Thursday, 17 May 2018 03:34 (eight years ago)

some of my fave brands are reintroducing boot cut jeans and idk what is real anymore

challops trap house (Will M.), Thursday, 17 May 2018 13:24 (eight years ago)

is this the pleated baggy pants look we're thinking of?

chinavision!, Thursday, 17 May 2018 13:40 (eight years ago)

lotta weird details going on there with the waistband, shoe choice, and hem length, but otherwise I think that's a pretty solid look, and also much more comfortable in summer weather than your fitted cotton chinos or whatever.

chinavision!, Thursday, 17 May 2018 13:42 (eight years ago)

It's a very good look but unroll the sleeves and button a couple more buttons and it would not work at all

salt sugar fat, that's where it's at (rip van wanko), Thursday, 17 May 2018 14:03 (eight years ago)

cinched-up waistband gives off strong peasant farmer vibe

call all destroyer, Thursday, 17 May 2018 14:34 (eight years ago)

agreed on sleeves and buttons. baggy pleated trousers are maybe higher risk/higher reward articles of clothing. when it works it will look cooler than generic chinos, but you risk slipping up and looking supremely dopey.

chinavision!, Thursday, 17 May 2018 14:38 (eight years ago)

I thought that as a short legged man I couldn't pull off the baggy pleated trouser but mb the cinched (what a word) waist is the key

ogmor, Thursday, 17 May 2018 14:42 (eight years ago)

pleated trousers are generally nicer; how is this even a question?

plax (ico), Thursday, 17 May 2018 17:42 (eight years ago)

they were out of style (by style I'm talking about the style of the average person) pretty much the last 20 years or so

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 17 May 2018 17:47 (eight years ago)

i still haven't taken the plunge to buy a pair though i have been tempted. i haven't worn pleated pants as an adult

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 17 May 2018 17:47 (eight years ago)

pleated trousers have been "back" for at least five years

plax (ico), Thursday, 17 May 2018 18:58 (eight years ago)

as a fashiony thing, yes. i rarely see it irl - iirc you live in london so ymmv.

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 17 May 2018 19:07 (eight years ago)

my feeling is that people in large global cities are generally super stressed and don't really have enough time to devote to being fashionable. if you want up to date style it's all being worn by people in wealthy provincial mid-size cities. Rotterdam, Hamburg, Helsinki. everyone on the tube just looks tired. men invariably have terrible shoes.

plax (ico), Thursday, 17 May 2018 20:35 (eight years ago)

"up-to-date style" should be in scare quotes

plax (ico), Thursday, 17 May 2018 20:36 (eight years ago)

on the other hand, people in large cities are insanely better dressed on the average than people in small cities, in my experience

depends on the city but damn there are some bad styles out here in the midwest

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ (mh), Thursday, 17 May 2018 20:41 (eight years ago)

i want some slouchy linen shirts in darker colors - dark browns, olives, or very dark neutrals. most of the linen i see is pastel-colored. anyone find good linen shirts lately?

true

marcos, Thursday, 17 May 2018 20:42 (eight years ago)

proper cloth had some great dark linens last year, i picked up one of them.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 17 May 2018 20:43 (eight years ago)

was gonna say uniqlo but looks like half their linen shirts are pastel this year

who'd have thought Colin Mochrie would eventually become a style icon?

if you want to pay a shitload for a shirt, uh

for cheap:

dark linens can come out a bit shiny in practice so watch out for that but i have the s/s version of this and it is blacker and less shiny than it looks in the photo

you probably want to size up

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ (mh), Thursday, 17 May 2018 20:50 (eight years ago)

"amalfi blue" sounds like a nice color on paper but that shirt looks like a true religion denim shirt in practice

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 17 May 2018 20:51 (eight years ago)

people in Bristol dress like it's still 1998 (and not in a cool way). I feel like a dandy wearing what I do and I'm not in any way stylish compared to if I walk through London, I'm just dressed normally

Hey, question. My bf needs a suit for a family wedding on Jun 23. He’s not IN the wedding so it doesn’t have to match anything and it will be the only suit he owns so something versatile would be ideal. He’s barrel-chested with a fondness for beer so more of a 12- pack than a 6-pack.

What’s good? He loves bow ties and crazy socks and he’s got a mug like a Polish hooligan so he usually does a sort of Peaky Blinders-influenced hipster craftsman thing. Where the hell should we go shopping?

which do u hear yanny or (in orbit), Saturday, 26 May 2018 17:56 (eight years ago)

sounds like he might be hard to fit off the rack. haven’t done it myself but indochino will do made to measure and rework for free until he’s happy. not sure how creative their cuts and fabrics get.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 26 May 2018 18:03 (eight years ago)

if the budget is under $1000 including accessories and he's under like a 48 or 50, i would take him to suit supply and get him a charcoal gray suit. a charcoal suit works for anything (including funerals), so it's the usual thing if you only have one suit. and the styling in store at suit supply is a bit fashion, so he can have fun with the peaky blinders stuff in their shirts/ties. he might want a 3 piece or a double breasted if he's feeling saucy.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 26 May 2018 18:15 (eight years ago)

He’s always feeling saucy. I’m trying to rein him in from getting everything in shades of pink. And I mean the suit.

which do u hear yanny or (in orbit), Saturday, 26 May 2018 18:20 (eight years ago)

Thank, caek!

which do u hear yanny or (in orbit), Saturday, 26 May 2018 18:21 (eight years ago)

the go-to suggestion to mix it up, if weather allows, is throwing a vest or some accessory (tie, socks, etc) to make things more distinctive

I am not a fan of vests but hey, many are

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ (mh), Saturday, 26 May 2018 19:33 (eight years ago)

I think based on size charts that he’s a 40. But are these super skinny cuts right for him? It looks like Suit Supply only makes an extremely fitted version. I like it aesthetically and everything but is it for most people’s bodies?

which do u hear yanny or (in orbit), Sunday, 27 May 2018 01:33 (eight years ago)

Go to suit supply first and then - because he’s not gonna wear this often - men’s wearhouse. They can put him in whatever he wants within budget, just don’t expect it to hold up.

El Tomboto, Sunday, 27 May 2018 01:41 (eight years ago)

part of the reason i suggested mtm is i’m not sure suitsupply will work for his body type. it barely works for mine. by all means check them out but their cuts are aggressively slim.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 27 May 2018 02:51 (eight years ago)

especially the trousers.
