sorry everyone

brand new universal harvester (dog latin), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:38 (eight years ago)

I associate awning stripe shirts w/the beach boys and I think it's not a bad summer look.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:39 (eight years ago)

i think they are actually hideous but i saw one paired really well with the right combo. red t underneath the yellow stripes and a blue jacket. it worked surprisingly well. but yes, they can look like pyjamas or like the worst Seinfeldy 90s fashion if done wrong

brand new universal harvester (dog latin), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:41 (eight years ago)

the closest things i've found have been quite pale stripes. i'm quite up for bold.

brand new universal harvester (dog latin), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:41 (eight years ago)

xp what color were the suspenders and fedora?

the late great, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:43 (eight years ago)

I'm always surprised by the things that get near-universal disapproval here!

chinavision!, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 15:47 (eight years ago)

you can get away with pretty much anything if you have that berghain/cambridge analytica bro look but iirc dog latin does not.

call me a hidebound reactionary, but i think an unbuttoned long-sleeved yellow awning stripe dress shirt unbuttoned and layered over a t-shirt is not going to look good. it's going to look like a 6th former in 1998.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:13 (eight years ago)

or a gammon man resurrecting his paul smith interesting dress shirt collection

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:16 (eight years ago)

I can't comment on the total combo, but awning stripes are fine. They're good casual summer shirts, especially if you're at the beach.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:19 (eight years ago)

Yellow anything is tough. Depends on the person.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:19 (eight years ago)

i support dg's quest for awning stripes, follow yr bliss bro

lag∞n, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:23 (eight years ago)

berghain/cambridge analytica bro

I'm completely lost as to the overlap here but am very interested in how there's a commonality overlap

mh, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:47 (eight years ago)

me undies or mack weldon?

missed this

but just gonna come out and say it

i buy my undies at the gap because i don't know

i'm picky with them and only buy designs/patterns i like because women see me in them often

F# A# (∞), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:52 (eight years ago)

ha, wait that berghain/cambridge analytica bro look--what does this mean? Do CA guys rock, like leather pants and sweat-soaked black tees (which is what I have always imagined, possibly incorrectly, that clubbers at berghain would wear)?

have to admit my collection of pooch pattern undies is growing unexpectedly

F# A# (∞), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:55 (eight years ago)

I think this is about the CA whistleblower guy. when that story came out in the guardian they had this photo heavy splash that seemed very interested in his depressing I've-seen-the-movie-hackers look.

plax (ico), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:56 (eight years ago)

Ah ha, I see

Dan I., Tuesday, 1 May 2018 16:58 (eight years ago)

ahh, duh

mh, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 17:04 (eight years ago)

I generally think that you should wear something if you like wearing it no matter the general whims of mostly badly dressed passers by but I'm making an exception for that guy because he is super depressing to look at

plax (ico), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 17:21 (eight years ago)

i remember thinking his hair looked really nice in some of the photos (not so much that one)

I work for an evil corporation. but I have a renegade attitude to office dress requirements.

plax (ico), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 17:28 (eight years ago)

that's kind of the libertarian ethos, only you have to aspire to owning an evil corporation too

mh, Tuesday, 1 May 2018 17:29 (eight years ago)

so boring

plax (ico), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 17:30 (eight years ago)

I guess hood by air was specifically invented for these people

plax (ico), Tuesday, 1 May 2018 17:32 (eight years ago)

i'm about this boring but in a parallel track

caek m/l otm about awning stripe layering. personally i would only go for short sleeves or possibly rolled up long sleeves, no layering. you do run the risk of looking like a referee or fast food employee tho.

any layering of stripey shirts with tee or tank top underneath makes me think of like Dave Navarro or some slicked back bowling alley greaser. and yes i was basically a sixth former in 1999 sporting variations on this ngl. the reason the beach boys pull off awning stripes is bc they look super casual with the short sleeves, and also a little bit preppy. however, if you must follow your inspiration, I would only wear something like a white tee underneath, and navy chinos/shorts or indigo jeans.

I'm sure you're inferring that raglan sleeves are bad here, and i will not stand for it

increased comfort and maneuverability and no shoulder seam? no thank you

i am fascinated by this skinny jnco/gansey sweater combo

https://yarnoverdotme.files.wordpress.com/2018/04/daniel-day-lewis-gansey-sweater.jpg

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Wednesday, 2 May 2018 19:16 (eight years ago)

xp are you using jnco as a term for dropped crotch and somewhat broader legs? because... jncos have other very distinctive features

mh, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 19:26 (eight years ago)

no i'm talking about

the late great, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 19:28 (eight years ago)

no the contrast triple stitching, but on further image searching i learn that was not a jnco thing and i apologise.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Wednesday, 2 May 2018 19:28 (eight years ago)

cross post to WSOS

the late great, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 19:29 (eight years ago)

oh you were talking to caek

the late great, Wednesday, 2 May 2018 19:29 (eight years ago)

but i did say "skinny jnco"

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Wednesday, 2 May 2018 19:29 (eight years ago)

I'm fine with contrast stitching in small doses, but as soon as you get super complex patterns on the back pockets I'm out

those look almost like a g-star design on DDL, but they may have moved on completely by now
