I'd kind of like to know if there was any decision-making process at all that went in to deciding which Givenchy tees sell for like $350 vs $450 Vs $750 vs $1000 or whatever, or if it's literally just darts at a board.

I've never seen a top man T at that price. not that i've been in for a decade but it's generally a wee bit more than H&M, no?

xp they're owned by a conglomerate so I'd suspect there's a specific price range each brand is given and clothing is priced within that band accordingly

maybe it's a regional thing but even in the shops they call a suit jacket sans trousers a blazer. Never heard the phrase 'unmatched suit jacket' uttered IRL outside of fashion blogs etc

to me a blazer is a more casual unmatched suit style jacket, like you see ppl straight up wearing a regular suit jacket with jeans and it looks fn bozo, tho i also recognize that the blue jacket with the metal buttons is the traditional definition

ppl need to be mindful when mixing garments of different casualness levels

sure the original meaning probably was like a bus conductors jacket. there's probably no greater difference in UK/US vernacular than in the fashion industry. I have to look up what people are talking about ITT and half the time I end up going 'ahhh so they mean x'

like there do exist blazers of a similar casualness level as jeans, and there are blazers of a casualness level of slacks, and there are suit jackets that come with matching pants which are generally tho not always very uncasual, im not saying you cant mix them but just be aware

tie w/jeans is fine with the right shirt/tie/jacket/sweater. the problem is no one knows understand how different fabrics, patterns, etc. affect the final look.

oxford buttondown, not white twill w/spread collar. wool or knit tie, not shiny silk tie. and so forth.

I don't think anyone's advocating an actual suit jacket with jeans here guys. although I think there was a time I would wear a skinny tie and jeans but that was over 10 years ago at least

sry i gotta come down on the side of tie with jeans is generally pretty bad, dressing up jeans is kinda just lame IMHO there are lots of kinds of pants, i know everyone wants to wear jeans 2 work and i sympathize but its still just trying to square a circle jeans r for being cool chill and for wiping your hands on and dont really need to be paired with a gingham shirt a northface fleece and some shoes, also a thing i hate while were at it is the tie without jacket shitty college age male look

also i know there is the rocker guy tie with jeans look too

Suit jacket or suit coat - has matching pants (and maybe vest). Generally more formal in cut, fabric, and usage than sportcoats/jackets/blazers.

Jacket or sportcoat - meant to be worn as a separate, with non-matchy but still coordinating pants. Generally less formal in cut, fabric and usage. One might see tweed and corduroy and even velvet in this category.

Blazer - subcategory of jacket/sportcoat, usually blue with gold buttons but not always.

Easy to mush these things up because all blazers are sportcoats but not all sportcoats are blazers, geez doodz, there can be some areas of ambiguity but most of the time it is not that hard to figure out what is meant

get some nice wool pants or cotton pants for the summer people will notice and think you are on to something

Yeah, p sure "pants" is plural because they used to be separate things, although most people now just have one garment that they call "pants."

The mental image of sports being played in sportcoats is still a little amusing to me, though. Like imagine the New England Patriots or Boston Red Sox, all trotting onto the field wearing matching herringbone tweed jackets with elbow patches.

A lot of fashion advice that says something is "bad" is really just shorthand for saying "if you are reading this you are probably in the bottom 98% of men fashion-wise and hence you will fuck this up because it takes a lot of nuance and attention to detail to make it work, so just don't do it."

Jeans look good with heavier weight button downs, plaid or solid, like workwear kinda deal

I weighed my pants today and they're 2.8 lbs. yowza, these are some heavy pants! er xpost I guess

also later in the week if the weather's right I'm gonna wear a double breasted navy blazer w/brass buttons. should be fun.

its fun to know the names of things i do enjoy lording it over people but only for sport

me too, i wear my sports jacket while i do it, and i also wear a button down collar so my collar doesn't flap about in the excitement
