yeah I got some NYX eyebrow gel stuff, but I have pretty thick eyebrows already and it made me feel like groucho marx
I stopped using the gel and now I just groom my eyebrows with an old mascara brush more before I go out.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 00:55 (eight years ago)

plus I wear glasses so after i go to all the trouble of 'doing' my brows, no-one can hardly see them anyway lol

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 00:56 (eight years ago)

Ahahaha cigar smoking baby brows! I want them :D

I do wish my brows came in thicker also because I’d have an excuse to go to one of many eyebrow threading places in my neighbourhood and get my dream brow created (it’s this more straight angle, almost no arch but still elevated? I don’t know but my brow seems incapable.) I think they’d just laugh at me right now.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 1 February 2018 03:24 (eight years ago)

My next makeup goal is: actually doing an “eyeshadow look”

Eyeshadow still seems like a lot of work, like the most work, when it comes to makeup. By the time I get to eyes I’m ready to be done, so mascara and maybe liquid eyeliner it is.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 1 February 2018 03:28 (eight years ago)

i love eyeshadow the most!!

my discovery that isnt really earthshattering but works 100% of always:
find 2 colors you love
do your lid in the darker, and then the outside edge/corner in the lighter color
get a fat blender brush and blend til you like it
if you think the dark color’s too dark, just blend it til it’s lighter. blending RULES

then when you get fancy you can do 3 or 4 colors

but make it colors you love, that are good to work with & good pigments

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 04:35 (eight years ago)

VG your eyeshadow is always excellent :) good pigments otm

after i got a gift card for my many years of service at work, i went to ulta and blew it all on hair putty, eyeliner, and this giant urban decay eyeshadow pallette with 20 metallic eyeshadows. they are so fun. i wear a different one every day. half of them are neutrals and the other half are really saturated colors. i think the gold is my favorite, but don't underestimate dark red for nighttime!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Thursday, 1 February 2018 13:41 (eight years ago)

"I think I look like that evil cartoon baby that smokes cigars."

I love this.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:45 (eight years ago)

While I don't love the other makeup I've bought from them (I'm a sucker and want to love it because I like the packaging but I've just not been wowed by anything else) I really like Glossier's Brow Boy.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:49 (eight years ago)

my eyeshadow game changer was the Urban Decay Electric palette that i bought a few years back. Basically Aladdin Sane colors & metallics :D

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:09 (eight years ago)

I was trying to find the specific cartoon baby that I was envisioning and did not realize that so many people draw crazy eyebrows on their baby...

Yerac, Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:32 (eight years ago)

I am scared of bright colors on my eyes so I usually stick to neutrals but maybe I should branch out.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:34 (eight years ago)

it's a matter of personal preference imo
if you like neutrals, why change it?
neutrals make me sad, so i prefer brights

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Thursday, 1 February 2018 17:54 (eight years ago)

I was just reading about eyeshadow "best practices" the other day! Basically what I learned is, people with brown eyes can wear all the bright colors, but if you have blue eyes, you should wear more neutral colors (brown, soft pink, etc), or if bright: orange, yellow, and pink ... but i kinda dgaf -- wearing bright blue eyeshadow makes my eyes look gray, and I think gray eyes are cool.

sarahell, Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:06 (eight years ago)

i have gray/blue eyes & i wear electric blue a lot bcz I like it.

like i am done with prescriptive stuff like if your eyes are x wear x
wear colors you like
and LL otm, if you are into neutrals, do neutrals!
whatever floats your boat

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:23 (eight years ago)

Oh, I agree with all the above I just think colors are fun and maybe I should try them some time because I might be surprised by how much I like them is all. I agree that you should wear whatever colors you want. That being said, I think there's some color science behind some of those recommendations because on the odd occasion that I do wear something purple-ish my green eyes look insane. In a good way.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:33 (eight years ago)

^^ yeah, I'm the reverse, in terms of trying neutrals -- but then I was like, wtf, and I did some soft pink eyeshadow, and it did make my eyes look really blue

sarahell, Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:48 (eight years ago)

yeah = there's actually color science behind the recommendations, similar to colors/patterns/cuts of clothing and whether they make you look larger/smaller/shorter/taller ...

sarahell, Thursday, 1 February 2018 18:52 (eight years ago)

i have green eyes and wear purple eye shadow as a default/neutral!

my general philosophy is do with your face what makes you happy and don't be afraid of anything -- nothing about your face will burn anyone's eyes out, there is nothing to fear

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Thursday, 1 February 2018 20:33 (eight years ago)

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 20:53 (eight years ago)

The only thing I know about eyeshadow is to put a darker color in the crease and blend to give you a Sophia Loren look.

Yerac, Thursday, 1 February 2018 23:27 (eight years ago)

VG I am confused--dark on the lid, then light on the outside, closer to the ear than the nose?

If so, this is blowing my mind a bit but then again I learned eyeshadow in during the Dynasty of the 1980s.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 1 February 2018 23:29 (eight years ago)

dark on the whole lid & then light on the edge above the outer lid sorta outer socket-bone/under brow

it pulls the shape of the eye up & out just a little

i have v round hooded eyes & found a full-on smokey eye made me look a bit too much like a panda, even with a lot of blending. a good metallic light color, or even just powdered highlighter seems to do the trick for the outer edge, for me anyway

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 2 February 2018 00:01 (eight years ago)

aah OK gonna try this

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Friday, 2 February 2018 00:18 (eight years ago)

:D

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 2 February 2018 00:42 (eight years ago)

ok just watched youtube videos re: this and I get it and OH!

I've been doing the colors/shape just soooo different, this is a game-changer tbrr

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Friday, 2 February 2018 01:34 (eight years ago)

meaning now maybe I will do some eye makeup and it will be more Oh than Uh

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Friday, 2 February 2018 01:35 (eight years ago)

yeah it definitely was a gamechanger for me
and it made me more excited to perfect an overall ~look~ once i got the eyes right

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 2 February 2018 01:39 (eight years ago)

Ha ha, I favor purple eye makeup because it's my favorite color and also I think it makes my eyes look greener.

I have gotten a lot of ideas from YouTube especially for specific palettes.

Kat Von D has a Divine themed palette coming out next month. WANT!

tokyo rosemary, Friday, 2 February 2018 07:58 (eight years ago)

My standard eye makeup routine is lightest shade on crease and above, middle color on lid, darkest color on outer lid.

tokyo rosemary, Friday, 2 February 2018 07:59 (eight years ago)

Tokyo, I always remember you having nice eye makeup. I should look at more youtube videos. I watched the one video Alexa Chung did when she had her eyeko line and it really helped me with liquid eyeliner application. Basically, I just do that tutorial all the time.

Yerac, Sunday, 4 February 2018 10:58 (eight years ago)

OK so I'm geeking out and need to share - I did a purple glossy lid look last night just playing around and tagged my favorite makeup artist in the pic on IG saying that she'd inspired me and she liked it and msgd me that it was v pretty. :D

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 5 February 2018 15:27 (eight years ago)

that’s awesome!!! :D

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 5 February 2018 15:45 (eight years ago)

nothing to fear!!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 5 February 2018 22:02 (eight years ago)

three weeks pass...

This is probably the wrong thread for this, but it’s the only one I’m aware of where women discuss matters of body aesthetics...

To what extent is it acceptable to go wedding dress shopping/to wedding fairs without having any inclination to ever get married and does anyone have any experience of this or is it purely in the realm of Muriel/Dee Reynolds insanity? Related question: are there any circumstances in which it’s acceptable to wear a wedding dress besides a wedding? Sounds like I’m trolling but I am dead serious.

tangenttangent, Friday, 2 March 2018 21:34 (eight years ago)

have you gone to thrift stores to try on wedding dresses? that might scratch the itch without being a possible nuisance to people who sell very expensive dresses. there's rarely a thrift store without at least one wedding dress in it, at least ime

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 2 March 2018 21:36 (eight years ago)

there are women's clothing threads too -- i think they are on I Love Style

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Friday, 2 March 2018 21:37 (eight years ago)

Ah, thank you - I will seek them out next time! Thrift store wedding dresses are a good idea. They are just so beautiful and ethereal and I’d love a non-wedding wedding to be able to wear them.

More on topic - braved a bright orange matte lip today for the first time and found it surprisingly wearable.

tangenttangent, Friday, 2 March 2018 21:57 (eight years ago)

I would think a tulle type of dress in a light color might be better suited for more non-getting married occasions or dress up. Or do you like those retro bateau neck satin looks in white?

Yerac, Saturday, 3 March 2018 02:21 (eight years ago)

I am a strong proponent of wearing whatever you want, "wedding dress" is a pretty arbitrary label

sarahell, Saturday, 3 March 2018 07:14 (eight years ago)

Agreed!

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Sunday, 4 March 2018 16:20 (eight years ago)

My wedding dress was a black and white short dress found on the internet with an aviator style jacket over it.

Yerac, Sunday, 4 March 2018 16:42 (eight years ago)

When I was in high school, there was a Jessica McClintock/Gunne Sax outlet nearby, and we would occasionally go there and try on wedding dresses.

that sounds awesome!

surm, Monday, 5 March 2018 17:06 (eight years ago)

Even just reading "Jessice McClintock" I can smell what Seventeen magazines from the early 90s smelled like.

Yerac, Monday, 5 March 2018 17:15 (eight years ago)

baby soft
exclamation!

weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 5 March 2018 21:18 (eight years ago)

guys i'm in the market for a new blush maybe? i dunno if i should go coral or baby pink for spring

surm, Monday, 5 March 2018 21:21 (eight years ago)

x-post Navy by Covergirl

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 5 March 2018 21:26 (eight years ago)

x-post - Surm think it depends on your coloring though both might work. Do not like all of their products but I do think the Glossier Cloud Paints are nice and there is a pink and a peach that you can even mix.

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 5 March 2018 21:27 (eight years ago)

I love Bobby Brown Pale Pink (not actually pale) and Nars Orgasm for peachy.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Monday, 5 March 2018 21:39 (eight years ago)

ohh good tips

yeah you know, i love both colors but sometimes pink makes me look like i have a fever? lol. maybe i will get BOTH! treat myself! heard really good things about Glossier's masks too
