You are both correct.

i would say vans have never gone out of style but then again i live in southern california

i just bought a pair of vans, having forgotten that for whatever reason sk8-his and old skools really badly irritate my ankles when they're new. such a bear to break in!

https://i.imgur.com/nGTwwOB.jpg

these are the ones i got

the late great, Friday, 17 November 2017 22:49 (eight years ago)

ya i grew up along the north american west coast and me and my friends/family have pretty much always had a pair of vans

my go to were usu the slip ons. my friend is in his mid 30s and he still wears checkered vans and his baseball cap with the bill flipped upwards (like kids used to do in the 80s/early 90s)

there used to be a vans store by where i grew up that would make you a pair of vans from whatever fabric you brought in

shame they don't do that anymore

the late great, Friday, 17 November 2017 23:55 (eight years ago)

lag∞n, Saturday, 18 November 2017 00:03 (eight years ago)

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 18 November 2017 13:08 (eight years ago)

My brother is 47 and wears checkered vans and I love it. But my wife vetoed me on the checks.

BTW, like so many shoe companies these days, you can make custom Vans.

https://www.vans.com/customs-mens.html

I've done custom shoes via Adidas and Nike and the results have been pretty awesome.

Randall Jarrell (dandydonweiner), Saturday, 18 November 2017 13:14 (eight years ago)

(and on those customs you can upload your own pattern as long as it's not copyrighted)

Randall Jarrell (dandydonweiner), Saturday, 18 November 2017 13:35 (eight years ago)

I mail-ordered Vans and Chuck Taylors from the back of Transworld Skateboarding in 1987 or 1988 and I think I’ve had pairs of both continuously ever since.

joygoat, Saturday, 18 November 2017 14:54 (eight years ago)

Vans with the Ultracush insoles are a gamechanger

dunno why they don't have them in all their shoes

Anyone have any idea what the shirt is that Raekwon wears on the Only Built 4 Cuban Linx cover?

So I think I finally figured out my ideal Levi's fit -- 502s. It's similar to a 501 but tapered, so I get the slim profile without feeling like I'm wearing tights (have big thighs and calves).

IF (Terrorist) Yes, Explain (man alive), Monday, 18 December 2017 03:05 (eight years ago)

How the fuck did I miss rip van wanko’s post two weeks ago

Oh well I got red felt chuck 70s for Hanukkah so I’m OK

i've never seen or worn anything by cos but love their website

the late great, Friday, 19 January 2018 18:57 (eight years ago)

re: outlier unclear why you'd spend your money on that instead of, say, patagonia stuff

the late great, Friday, 19 January 2018 18:57 (eight years ago)

there's no patagonia near here and the outlier dude used to host websites for a bunch of music/art writers so I was already reading his blog lol

mh, Friday, 19 January 2018 19:18 (eight years ago)

Their aesthetic is completely different

badg, Friday, 19 January 2018 19:23 (eight years ago)

that would be the main point, yeah

mh, Friday, 19 January 2018 19:28 (eight years ago)

I noticed at least three people yesterday wearing Vans yesterday. Are they back now?

Badgers (dog latin), Saturday, 20 January 2018 01:17 (eight years ago)

they never went away, in a lot of places

mh, Saturday, 20 January 2018 01:20 (eight years ago)

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 20 January 2018 01:22 (eight years ago)

Number None, Saturday, 20 January 2018 08:18 (eight years ago)

i just wanted to share a fashion win with yall. got a pair of danner hiking boots for the winter and i've never gotten so many compliments (and stares from fashion people). the red laces are key imo

https://s3.amazonaws.com/images.gearjunkie.com/uploads/2016/10/Danner-mountain-600-leather-red-laces-700x466.jpg

scoff walker (diamonddave85), Saturday, 20 January 2018 18:49 (eight years ago)

vans look classic imo and always have but fuck they are really shitty shoes

marcos, Saturday, 20 January 2018 18:55 (eight years ago)

I can't wear them for even 20 minutes without my feet hurting

marcos, Saturday, 20 January 2018 18:56 (eight years ago)

the styles with actual cushioning are ok but all the classic styles are basically as comfortable as chucks and just as back-breaking

I'm still mildly fuming that my favorite pair was thrown out by my mom when I was home visiting from college because they were all broken down. Never really bought another pair after that, but she was in the right -- they were busted, I was strolling around in them for sentimental reasons

mh, Saturday, 20 January 2018 18:59 (eight years ago)

man wilt chamberlain played in chucks u all orthopedic ass grandma feet having soft bois

lag∞n, Saturday, 20 January 2018 19:13 (eight years ago)

wilt chamberlain retired from basketball when he was my age, buddy

makes u think

mh, Saturday, 20 January 2018 19:20 (eight years ago)

what is it supposed to make me think

lag∞n, Saturday, 20 January 2018 19:24 (eight years ago)

anyway just because some shoes may make your feet hurt doesnt make them bad shoes many many people have successfully worn vans/chucks/etc without dying and in fact many people including researchers and various experts consider that type of simple shoe to be better than fancy technological ones that wrap yr feed in a plush cocoon

lag∞n, Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:06 (eight years ago)

also 38 is an advanced age to retire from basketball, in fact if wilt were playing at that age today it wld put him in the top 5 of active players

lag∞n, Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:10 (eight years ago)

u thought too much

mh, Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:13 (eight years ago)

i actually didnt think at all because i already knew all that stuff its call knowledge about shoes and the nba look into it

lag∞n, Saturday, 20 January 2018 20:15 (eight years ago)
