the uniqlos are v variable store to store ime. i mostly just buy socks/underwear online from it now, and not as often as before, but when it first launched in london i remember there being two stores on the main shopping street and one always had way, way better stock.

I will not comment at this time as to my ownership of the faux-denim joggers

Thank you for that picture of Reagan. I saw a documentary
of him recently and one of the main takeaways was what a
clothehorse he was. Also tall and lean and bow legged so that everything seemed to look good on him. He wore pocket squares in his presidential addresses!

I am having a hell of a time finding decent v-neck tees, shapely (for laydeez), not boxy, of a reasonable length (I'm tall), cotton with maybe a touch (5% max) of elasticity worked in for shaping, and not fucking tissue weight.

These things used to be jcrew/banana/gap staples, but damn if I can find any atm.

Gap but I think we are going for different things. I am very happy with a boxy aesthetic.

llbean and lands end are definitely known for boxy, but I have not taken a look in years; maybe things have changed.

navy and black are a classic combination, only depressing menswear blogs that insist you always wear fitted shirts think otherwise

interchangeable navy/black coat/sweater etc with black or v dark navy jeans and black boots is p much all i wear in winter. occasional grey and maybe a diff colour scarf, or just more black.

Recommend me companies that make casual l/s button shirts of similar style and cut to Steven Alan's collegiate shirts. Their shape and length is perfect for me. $80 or under would be preferred.

I've just picked them up at thrift stores though.

The other nice thing about Kamakura shirts (button down or not) is that their collars aren't fused, so they keep a softer shape.

i have been eyeing kamakura shirts for a while, they have a store in midtown. in my experience japanese brands don't fit me well as i somewhat tall with a long torso--how's the length?

Mostly I like that they are a bit on the shorter side and manage to be just roomy enough for my non-skinny frame while still maintaining a slim profile (in part just because of good quality, non-billowy fabric).

Kamakura could be good to at least check out! They've got stores in Manhattan you can visit and they're very friendly. Plus they've got a few different fits - so between all of them I figure something ought to work?

Or if you're patient you just keep browsing Goodwills all over the city...

Seriously I bought one shirt at Kamakura, which is great, but 4-5 from thrift stores. Plus loads of Brooks, Paul Stuart, Zegna, Canali, Eton, J Press, Tunrbull & Asser, and whatever else.

NYC is gooood for used clothes.

i like my kamakura shirts, the sizing/fits were definitely funky when i bought them so if you can try on in person that would be much better than taking a million measurements like i did.

Those look a little more officey than what I have in mind, although I didn't go through all the styles. I want something I can wear untucked.

I'm wondering if maybe I should try something like Gitman, or Gant, or maybe a brand like Band of Outsiders or APC, but those might be above my range unless I find a good sale.

also very easy to alter the length of shirts. buy something that is the right shape and if it's too long to have it untucked, have it taken up. I do it myself on a decrepit Singer but am any alterations person will do it easy.

bought a pair of cotton chinos earlier this year from cos, which were really working for me, but then a black pen leaked in one of the pockets, and mean they're pretty much out for smart or work wear. Cos have stopped doing them, any suggested alternatives?

I did mail them, yes, but unfortunately they said they didn't have any left, and wouldn't be restocking them. I got some stone-coloured ones cheap from Asos, but I liked the better quality cotton and colour of the cos ones.

thanks plax, that's definitely the sort of thing, but the ones I had were beige, which I quite liked (hence the black pen being a pain). It makes a handy change from my tendency to darker clothes!

am keeping an eye out. and generally continuing to apply stain remover though all it's resulted in so far is a much large, albeit slightly greyer stain.

obv an idiot for putting a pen in my pocket in the first place as well.
