Winter socks are a different story though

El Tomboto, Sunday, 28 May 2017 12:34 (nine years ago)

sorry full break just means how long the pants are... if they're long enough to sort of fully meet the shoe and kind of produce a deep wrinkle that's a full break. if they just meet the shoe exactly that's no break. half is... in between.

just saying that with anything in that spectrum, I need somewhat longish socks when I sit, because the hem of the pants rises up quite a bit. it's why I was looking at those over the calf socks. haven't bought them though.

maybe ill just take a trip to toronto and stock up on 'qlo socks, it's true their cheap... was hoping for some dirt cheap online bulk stuff but alas the sock cartel wins the day

flopson, Sunday, 28 May 2017 15:26 (nine years ago)

does the 'qlo not do online orders in canada

mh, Sunday, 28 May 2017 15:54 (nine years ago)

sry if we've discussed this a thousand times but does anyone have a preferred brand of chino? The criteria are:

- slimmer cut
- can be obtained for <$50

I have enjoyed Uniqlo but the Express "slim cut" Finn didn't feel very slim to me.

find it almost impossible to find nice non-denim trousers, besides sweatpants.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 1 June 2017 13:03 (nine years ago)

Just ordered some t-shirts online. The downside of losing a stone since winter is that I'm no longer sure whether I'm medium or large any more (it seems arbitrary from brand to brand). Ended up having to take back the last bunch I bought because they felt tent-like, so I'm having to order everything twice and send some back *humblebrag*

Shat Parp (dog latin), Thursday, 1 June 2017 13:05 (nine years ago)

it's the classic problem. the more I order clothes online the more I hate it

ogmor, Thursday, 1 June 2017 13:18 (nine years ago)

I know these are regular fit, but for uniqlo chinos, I think the "vintage" ones have a nicer feel and are more durable: https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/men-vintage-regular-fit-chino-flat-front-pants-172738.html?dwvar_172738_color=COL68#start=19&cgid=men-pants-and-chinos

Levi 511/513 are available in casual non-denim fabrics fwiw

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 1 June 2017 20:58 (nine years ago)

v much a 50/50 hit rate with ordering clothes online, which means unless i've actually been to a shop and tried on the brand, made note of sizes, i don't do it any more.

did buy some meermin dark brown suede shoes, which i love and are great... except they're ever so slightly too small. relying on them relaxing a bit, but even then they'll probably still be on the tighter end of "glove-like".

Fizzles, Friday, 2 June 2017 05:41 (nine years ago)

going on summer holiday in a month. my new girly took one look at my brown leather sandals and said I should NOT bring them. I think they're alright really, I mean what else are you supposed to wear in hot countries when you're at the beach? surely flip-flops/thongs/Havaianas are infinitely worse non?

Shat Parp (dog latin), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 19:33 (nine years ago)

no shame in a cheap flipflop

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 19:45 (nine years ago)

in your position i would literally wait until i was on holiday and buy whatever cheap-ass flipflop is available from a shop near the beach for like 7.50

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 19:47 (nine years ago)

Adidas Adilette, prob about 15 quid at a sports shop in the airport. Indestructible and nice colour schemes

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 6 June 2017 19:57 (nine years ago)

no those are bad just wear flip flops

mh, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 03:48 (nine years ago)

Spending on flip flops for the beach is absurd. Keep the cork & leather shit for warm weekends at home.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 04:01 (nine years ago)

You're likely to lose one, they're going to get torn up, just don't

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 04:02 (nine years ago)

Trace unassailably OTM basically

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 04:03 (nine years ago)

Tevas. Hate flip flops. Omg the name. Pool slides good call but adi on the narrow wedge of over-trending.

plax (ico), Wednesday, 7 June 2017 06:07 (nine years ago)

Think they've always been fairly mainstream, I remember my friend's dad used to wear them around the house.

I actually bought my dad a pair as he saw mine and considered them utilitarian and cheap, kept asking me if they did them in his size etc, okay dad I get the hint.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 7 June 2017 07:11 (nine years ago)

Actually quite a nice thing as if I go on holiday with my folks my dad insists on swimming in the sea, as do I, so now we wear our father son adilettes on the shore, lol.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 7 June 2017 07:14 (nine years ago)

where is a good place to buy cheap sunglasses? gas stations have been letting me down and i don't want to spend a lot of money on ray bans or similar

marcos, Monday, 12 June 2017 15:57 (nine years ago)

the beach iirc

i bet urban outfitters have some just-this-side-of-twatty models for like 20 bucks but i could be wrong

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 12 June 2017 17:06 (nine years ago)

asos if you don't mind dealing with returns

can i elicit some suggestions of nice casual summer looks? i quit my 9-5 office job and all ive bought in last 2 yrs has been bizcaj work stuff, which was fine for the 2 days a week i could wear Cool clothes but now having to dress myself 7 days a week and I'm kinda flailing. cashed out our Corp employee rewards system for a couple hundred in gift cards and i need inspo

iirc marcos is our best summer fashion man

mh, Monday, 26 June 2017 18:58 (nine years ago)

summer clothes is quite a bone of contention in this thread

but to recap

soft fabric shorts
chinos
havaiianas for the super casual/dgaf look or
leather sandals if you're on holidays (same with linen beach pants)

as long as you don't tuck in your top/shirt/t-shirt anything shld be okay but there was a bit of hawaiian shirt trolling

think that basically sums it up

i'm sure once we start talking about boat shoes another heated discussion will start

oh gosh no way

marcos, Monday, 26 June 2017 19:11 (nine years ago)

no i am now against havaianas, their ubiquity is oppressive, also they are weirdly heavy

speaking of weird, i have become pro-low-sock, dunno what's happening to me tbh

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 26 June 2017 19:12 (nine years ago)

oh

i still wear my havaiianas

i've always worn low cut socks but had a good amount of ankle lengths because i lived in a cold region (kinda hate wearing them in la but i have to when i wear my desert boots)

anyway basically ilx is averse to the super preppy look, with reason imo

i n f i n i t y (∞), Monday, 26 June 2017 19:17 (nine years ago)

I don't think people in my area wear havaianas, or I just haven't noticed

mh, Monday, 26 June 2017 19:22 (nine years ago)

no one gives a shit at my workplace anymore and I wear 3/4 length pants with the drop crotch, nike air presto mid tops with no-shoe socks, and a friggin t-shirt

mh, Monday, 26 June 2017 19:24 (nine years ago)

-_- (jim in vancouver), Monday, 26 June 2017 19:29 (nine years ago)

my summer look is a faded black pocket t-shirt, canvas shorts, birk sandals. too hot and humid for much else imo. old broken-in jeans work well for pants if it's a little cooler
