again, no bacteria

do you think poop is 100% bacteria

― mh, Tuesday, May 23, 2017 4:55 PM (forty-one minutes ago)

i forget how much it is but bacteria make up a ridiculous proportion of fecal mass, something like half the weight

k3vin k., Tuesday, 23 May 2017 21:38 (nine years ago)

washing them cold, line dry, every 6 months or so will not affect the fade in a noticeable way ime

marcos, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 21:39 (nine years ago)

also bacteria don't just live on random surfaces forever, they need nutrients to survive. you could soak a pair of jeans in pure bacteria broth and they'd all be dead in 2 weeks

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 21:47 (nine years ago)

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 21:47 (nine years ago)

i cut my hair last night, trimmed my beard too, i feel pretty fresh today

marcos, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 21:49 (nine years ago)

i find if i wash jeans often i get a uniform fade, which is not desirable

― -_- (jim in vancouver)

not suggesting you wash them more than once every month or two but 15 months w/o washing is just gross

https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/05/history-of-business-casual/526014/?single_page=true

There’s always a pushback as dress standards change. Many today might be tempted to watch an episode of Mad Men and think, “Why don’t people dress that nicely anymore?” But clothing standards are born of their time and place. What people wear is dynamic, but not capricious. So anyone who frowns upon the hoodie-wearing coworker one cubicle over would be well advised not to judge. If history is any indication, that’s what everyone will be coming to work in soon enough.

that look has been around for a while!

marcos, Thursday, 25 May 2017 20:43 (nine years ago)

'around for a while' yeah, you could say that, or more precisely, in this ver thread circa january 2015 aka ground zero for gorpcore, beginning with this post where i embarrassingly refer to fleece as 'fuzzy sweaters' lol and then continuing to when joe buys a bunch of them online

feeling the colours & design of these patagonia fuzzy sweaters. my norm family from south carolina who were visisiting over xmas were all wearing them and i was like hmmm secretly scoping them out lol

I don't know about that, I've got mates who dress exclusively from REI and have done for years.

what are some good paisley shirts?

important question! I love paisley but it is a bitch to find decent paisley men's shirts. honestly the best source in my neck of the woods was a primarily Mexican "Western Wear" store in my neighborhood, cuz latino cowboys love that shit. and then they went out of business :(

Οὖτις, Thursday, 25 May 2017 21:58 (nine years ago)

xp

i didn't read the article so there might be something more to it but i and my family have been wearing fleece sweaters at least since i was a kid

i always associated that type of clothing with the cold outdoors, maybe because we're pretty outdoorsy

i n f i n i t y (∞), Thursday, 25 May 2017 22:04 (nine years ago)

having friends who go camping or were in boy scouts doesn't rule out a trend in soho menswear. Maybe we should talk about our shower calendars again.

you want a paisley shirt you get it from liberty iirc

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 25 May 2017 23:20 (nine years ago)

Liberty is better for floral and arts and craft prints, their paisleys are a little bit weak IMO.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Friday, 26 May 2017 01:00 (nine years ago)

this seems like something that ought to exist and you guys would know about:

is there a good place to buy lots of nice socks on line for cheap?

flopson, Saturday, 27 May 2017 21:13 (nine years ago)

Happy Socks, although I think I got my last lot through the iconic or asos or some such.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Saturday, 27 May 2017 22:02 (nine years ago)

hm these seem expensive

flopson, Saturday, 27 May 2017 22:28 (nine years ago)

uniqlo socks are reasonable

plax (ico), Saturday, 27 May 2017 22:33 (nine years ago)

word of warning: uniqlo are one size and run a bit big on me (uk size 9)

Number None, Saturday, 27 May 2017 22:36 (nine years ago)

I've been looking at this: https://www.americantrench.com/collections/socks/products/supima-cotton-dress-rib-socks

but haven't pulled the trigger

I do uniqlo all the time, but their socks are just a bit shorter than I'd like, and they shrink too much in the wash.

chinavision!, Saturday, 27 May 2017 22:50 (nine years ago)

still on the pricey side, though a little cheaper than happy socks if you do the 7-pack.
