Clay, Monday, 22 May 2017 19:50 (nine years ago)

it's true, I was born unclean and will die unclean, the best I can do is cleanse myself and my clothing

mh, Monday, 22 May 2017 19:52 (nine years ago)

ya it depends on what you got used to as a child

enter the house
take off your shoes
go to the bathroom to wash your hands and gargle
change into jammies
throw clothes in laundry basket
kiss mum hello

i n f i n i t y (∞), Monday, 22 May 2017 19:53 (nine years ago)

ring around the collar is real... but then again I don't wash my shirts enough

chinavision!, Monday, 22 May 2017 19:54 (nine years ago)

i n f i n i t y (∞), Monday, 22 May 2017 19:54 (nine years ago)

marcos, Monday, 22 May 2017 20:04 (nine years ago)

shower every other day is plenty. if it is the hottest part of the summer i might shower every day

marcos, Monday, 22 May 2017 20:04 (nine years ago)

if it's below 50F i can get away with showering on a third day

marcos, Monday, 22 May 2017 20:05 (nine years ago)

i assume you don't exercise?

k3vin k., Monday, 22 May 2017 20:08 (nine years ago)

i shower every day but only once and don't exercise

flopson, Monday, 22 May 2017 20:14 (nine years ago)

i do, 3-5 mi walk every day, yoga, neither bring a lot of sweat unless it's super hot

marcos, Monday, 22 May 2017 20:14 (nine years ago)

yeah obviously you shower after exercising always

does this even need to be said?

i n f i n i t y (∞), Monday, 22 May 2017 20:16 (nine years ago)

depends on the exercise imo

marcos, Monday, 22 May 2017 20:17 (nine years ago)

some people don't sweat that much but you are in a place that is infested with other people's germs

i n f i n i t y (∞), Monday, 22 May 2017 20:18 (nine years ago)

also i do tihnk people have different levels of sweat, stank, b.o., oils, hair texture, etc. i would be a crusty dry flaky mess if i showered 2x day or even every day.

marcos, Monday, 22 May 2017 20:18 (nine years ago)

i don't go to a gym if that's waht you are talking about xp

marcos, Monday, 22 May 2017 20:19 (nine years ago)

ya or yoga studio

i n f i n i t y (∞), Monday, 22 May 2017 20:25 (nine years ago)

agree with marcus mostly about the clothes, i never wash jeans, i try to avoid washing sweatshirts and obv wool sweaters or whatever not at all. i have a spray for jeans that makes them smell nice. socks and underwear, t-shirts and shirts, i wash all those very regularly. washing often damages clothes.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 22 May 2017 21:37 (nine years ago)

ring around the collar is 100% real and I worry a little about folks when I notice it on their shirt

El Tomboto, Monday, 22 May 2017 21:55 (nine years ago)

I'd like to know about this jeans spray.. I try not to wash mine too often but they do start to smell a bit weird, and what's more noticeable is when you put them on and they feel a bit greasy or something...

Shat Parp (dog latin), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 13:13 (nine years ago)

Anyway, change of subject but I got some nice Adidas Superstars in a sale but realised they look a little weird in skinny/tapered jeans. Thinking of getting something a little baggier, or possibly some decent-looking joggers to wear with them but I'm kind of out my depth. I only really wear joggers to slouch round the house and they're cheapy Lonsdale ones from Sports Direct. Quite like the idea of reviving a baggier look but don't want to look throwbacky. WWYD?

Many of them avoid washing their jeans for as long as possible - and it seems that the fabric may have some as yet unexplained capacity to stay clean.

Last year a microbiology student at the University of Alberta, Josh Le, wore the same pair of raw denim jeans for 15 months without washing them and then tested their bacterial content.

He tested them again two weeks after washing them and found the bacterial content to be much the same .

"This shows that, in this case at least, the bacteria growth is no higher if the jeans aren't washed regularly," said Rachel McQueen, a professor of textile science, who worked with Le on the informal scientific experiment.

But while different people wear jeans in different ways, the most traditional styles remain among the most popular.

i n f i n i t y (∞), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 19:17 (nine years ago)

notice that it didn't say the bacterial content was low; just that it was unchanged

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 19:18 (nine years ago)

some ppl put their jean in the freezer when they start to stink lol

lag∞n, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 19:26 (nine years ago)

yeah I've done that

i just washed a pair of jeans after a scant 4 months though because i spilled burrito juice on them :/

-_- (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 19:29 (nine years ago)

Living in AZ means you have to wash things more, more sweat, more swass, more bounce to the ouunce. Also, wearing pants here in the summer is v v dumb, flip-flops and shorts is just about the only option. i have to wear pants to work but best believe the first thing I do when I walk in the house is get some shorts on and shoes/socks off.

it's not very clear in that article but from reading this article: https://www.ualberta.ca/news-and-events/newsarticles/2011/01/jeansremainsurprisinglycleanafterayearofwear

it's more so an indication that raw jeans is not an environment where bacteria can breed more bacteria, which is as good as it gets in terms of clothing i would say

my understanding is that it was a very casual experiment, but i found this video which i have not watched, that might have more info:

uh guys the result was that the bacteria level is the same after two weeks and 15 months, not 15 months and _immediately after washing_

mh, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 20:34 (nine years ago)

ya

sorry i didn't mean 15 months and immediately after washing

i n f i n i t y (∞), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 20:39 (nine years ago)

just means that 15 months incubation makes bacteria impervious af

spud called maris (darraghmac), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 20:43 (nine years ago)

feel like the main thing that's getting glossed over here by all the sweat talk is farts

do you guys know how bad the ass on these jeans smells

mh, Tuesday, 23 May 2017 20:46 (nine years ago)

maybe but that researcher couldnt find traces of ecoli or poop content so thats a minor miracle

i n f i n i t y (∞), Tuesday, 23 May 2017 20:48 (nine years ago)

I reread the article, there is absolutely no mention of whether poop content was detected or tested for
