Espadrilles work with a suit about as well as flip flops

i am inclined to agree.

i basically think you have to wear formal shoes with a suit though

i also never wear a suit unless I'm at a funeral or a wedding

-_- (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 22:58 (nine years ago)

I wore flip flops with a linen suit at brunch by a swimming pool the morning after my wedding. They can just about work in that situation but even then you look like the kind of person you seen when you google "suit espadriles".

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:02 (nine years ago)

By suit I'm thinking a summer linen or cotton affair, not a wool 3 piece.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:09 (nine years ago)

not saying it can't be done, just that it's probably high risk for most

chinavision!, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:25 (nine years ago)

where is our gr80, the suit/footwear expert

mh, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:27 (nine years ago)

espadrilles are nice though

chinavision!, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:30 (nine years ago)

in general I think suit + no socks looks are pretty heavily pushed to the point that I see them even in winter. it should be pretty rare! like vacation or summer weekend party only I think.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 16 May 2017 23:32 (nine years ago)

everything about beardy bloke in the shorts upthread is horrible. sorry beardy bloke

Shat Parp (dog latin), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 15:59 (nine years ago)

this weekend will be a scorcher and its times like these, when i mix a date and hot weather, when my steezy falls apart

im tempted to wear my semi fitted rvca shorts (i escape the chino material, but not quite gym shorts look, which is a good middle ground for me) bc i kno i will be burning up

but im also tempted to wear my designer jeans

either way im gonna fuckin sport the black havaiianas and a tshirt ffs

i n f i n i t y (∞), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:01 (nine years ago)

jeans in hot weather are fine imo unless you're like walking around loads or something.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:32 (nine years ago)

we are

we're gonna watch fancy shmancy people perform adagio for strings at a museum

but before we're gonna walk to a cafe and just look at the art

i n f i n i t y (∞), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:34 (nine years ago)

though i guess the art-seeing will be inside and it'll be nice and cool but still

i n f i n i t y (∞), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:35 (nine years ago)

depends on the denim a bit too, some pairs are comfy. some not so much. that's jeans for you.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:37 (nine years ago)

but trying to push for a post-concert drink bc that's all sorts of win: potential for adult drinks, cooler weather, a young night ripe for who knows what

i n f i n i t y (∞), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:38 (nine years ago)

i make sure i only buy soft denim, these are ag but rag&bones good too

i n f i n i t y (∞), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:39 (nine years ago)

older broken-in jeans are fine for summer. stiffer heavier denim is fucking awful when it's hot

marcos, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:42 (nine years ago)

i hate stiff denim generally - don't like selvedge at all for that reason. i have a few pairs of acne studios, all fairly light.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 17 May 2017 21:47 (nine years ago)

i can do light selvedge in spring but no denim in summer

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 May 2017 23:48 (nine years ago)

What do you guys where instead of jeans in the summer? Khakis or chinos or whatever?

I don't like wearing those but i just might since they are more comfortable in the heat (offfff the niiiight)

i n f i n i t y (∞), Thursday, 18 May 2017 00:03 (nine years ago)

chinos yeah

call all destroyer, Thursday, 18 May 2017 00:05 (nine years ago)

lighter demin, I got some great light denim jeans from REI when I was over in the states last month, Prana was the brand
Also linen and seersucker are the classics for the summer.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 18 May 2017 00:20 (nine years ago)

I wear jeans year-round. I have plenty of twill and plain weave chinos too
one good pair of linen-cotton pants

shorts are for kids

your cognitive privilege (El Tomboto), Thursday, 18 May 2017 01:13 (nine years ago)

lol the whole anti-shorts thing is great if you want to look like an awkward weirdo when it's 90 degrees outside on a saturday

call all destroyer, Thursday, 18 May 2017 01:30 (nine years ago)

I nail looking like an awkward weirdo every day regardless of the season or circumstances. Most folks don't even try.

defaulting to less clothes because oh it's hot is exactly not sprezzatura btw

your cognitive privilege (El Tomboto), Thursday, 18 May 2017 01:48 (nine years ago)

plus it leaves more exposed thing to slather sunscreen on, which is a pain.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 18 May 2017 01:50 (nine years ago)

true, sprezzatura is sweating through the back-of-knee part of your jeans

call all destroyer, Thursday, 18 May 2017 01:50 (nine years ago)

if you're sweating you're probably doing too much. slow down, take it easy, more mosey, less hustle

your cognitive privilege (El Tomboto), Thursday, 18 May 2017 01:52 (nine years ago)

if it's over 80 and I'm not at work then shorts are the best

marcos, Thursday, 18 May 2017 01:53 (nine years ago)

LA heat is intense for me (always lived in coastal cities though)

I'm a fit guy and just walking slowly in the sun causes perspiration

This is one time I'm happy i live in a place where it basically feels like a big beach all year round, because i know I can't be easily judged for wearing flip flops and shorts

I just might go out and buy some light chinos friday after work though, because i lined up dates back to back (Saturday and Sunday)

Yeaaahhh buddy

Thanks dudes

i n f i n i t y (∞), Thursday, 18 May 2017 02:25 (nine years ago)

good luck on dates, your partners will appreciate your light chinos and your ability to dress appropriately

call all destroyer, Thursday, 18 May 2017 02:28 (nine years ago)

It's all coming off anyway

I'm not judging the shorts wearers dude

i n f i n i t y (∞), Thursday, 18 May 2017 02:29 (nine years ago)

no i'm being sincere

call all destroyer, Thursday, 18 May 2017 02:31 (nine years ago)

to each his own

if you can't be careful, name it after Dr Morbius

El Tomboto, Thursday, 18 May 2017 02:31 (nine years ago)

i find a lot of chinos have a particularly preppy look that i don't want. hard to find alternatives to jeans as a result.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 18 May 2017 11:00 (nine years ago)

well that's my issue but i'm gonna "dress it down"

i n f i n i t y (∞), Thursday, 18 May 2017 15:54 (nine years ago)

yeah some just look kind of like trousers and are fine.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 18 May 2017 17:57 (nine years ago)

Outlier's Slim Dungarees are a non-chino alternative to jeans.

beard papa, Thursday, 18 May 2017 20:04 (nine years ago)

hot weather sucks

flopson, Thursday, 18 May 2017 20:23 (nine years ago)

chinos that just look kind of like trousers is 90% of what I wear on my legs

Choco Blavatsky (seandalai), Thursday, 18 May 2017 21:56 (nine years ago)

two sad things I saw today (93 F in DC, barely any breeze, clear skies, storm finally broke around 7pm)

1. guys wearing suits outside, roaming to and fro for some big honcho suit meeting they had to be at

2. firefighters called to some kind of situation in a building under construction next door, all geared up

there but for the grace of etc

El Tomboto, Friday, 19 May 2017 02:13 (nine years ago)

this, by god. i find trouser buying *so* hard. picked up chinos and a cotton twill from cos recently and they're good, but p distinctively tapered which means they determine the rest of what you have to wear. maintaining outfits like this is expensive, inflexible and needs organisation so trousers that can exist within the broader categories of "smart" and "casual" are v handy.

got a pair of khaki jeans from asos a couple of years ago that are superb but otherwise... it's a struggle.

Fizzles, Friday, 19 May 2017 07:27 (nine years ago)

er referring to this:

i find a lot of chinos have a particularly preppy look that i don't want. hard to find alternatives to jeans as a result.

Fizzles, Friday, 19 May 2017 07:28 (nine years ago)

stone me if you must but i've got three pairs of top man chinos that are slim/fitted enough that they don't feel like preppie golf gear, and the fabric is surprisingly durable

i will also once again rep for benetton in this dept

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Friday, 19 May 2017 08:26 (nine years ago)

Fatigue pants with the front pockets stitched on the outside. Why do I only have one pair of you?

El Tomboto, Friday, 19 May 2017 13:16 (nine years ago)

link to example please

mh, Friday, 19 May 2017 14:12 (nine years ago)

Every year I make my pilgrimage to the Margaret Howell sample sale to get another pair of 'worker trousers'. Really well made, last forever and nice silhouette. If you're feeling flush I think they're about £180 normally (I think I paid £35 last year).

Will also rep for the Stan Ray trousers from the excellent Shopkeeper Store https://www.theshopkeeperstore.com/collections/pants

not sure I could pull those off, maybe just go for lightweight pants-looking joggers w/a straighter profile if you want an easier deployed version of that look

mh, Friday, 19 May 2017 23:51 (nine years ago)

i wanted to suggest baggy sarouel pants but didn't know if i was in the right place. not $1000 yohji but 2nd hand black y's for men sarouel pants, go with everything and made to let your sweaty ballsac catch a breeze like windchimes on the front porch. also toraichi work pants like this which are breathable, light, adjustable on your calf, and cost next to nothing 2nd hand.
also these, denim but good for hot weather strolling:

dylannn, Saturday, 20 May 2017 13:41 (nine years ago)

Those yohji were posted in jest btw
