I generally spend almost nothing on clothes and dress like a clueless dad most days but I'm going to be away for work so much this year and feel like my slob tendencies have gotten worse since kid #2 arrived on the scene so yesterday I got fitted for a couple of proper shirts which was kind of exciting because I've, like, never gotten fitted for a shirt

though she denies it to the press, (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Tuesday, 7 February 2017 12:19 (nine years ago)

stockbroker colin hunt is my favourite vetements fw17 look tbh

xp (or maybe not)

r|t|c, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 12:21 (nine years ago)

von dutch cap, avirex jacket, k swiss creps, evisu jeans, bit of versace maybe, the usual

how many of these things should i google?

yea i've started to embrace clueless dad slob as a look tbh, i've made it deliberate now and it feels like a good look for me

btw i am going to ditch these black 501s. i picked up some other levis and the problem w/ the 501s is that the denim feels very cheap, it wasn't that they are too black it's that denim sucks. for some reason the 505s i picked up seem like way higher quality denim and they are very black too but they are look much better

marcos, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 14:40 (nine years ago)

hmm yeah depending where you got them, the 501s might be the cheap levi's junk. they have some nice mid and upper end lines, but a bunch of the classic numbered styles are subject to the lowered standards of commodity staples

then there's whatever gets sold at target/wal-mart which (if levi's still does this) even has a slightly different label and are practically throw-away

i'm all sad because my five year old pair of nudies denim I liked is getting a hole in the groin :/

mh 😏, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 14:50 (nine years ago)

it's warm here today and I didn't do laundry so I'm wearing a t-shirt and black jeans lol

I remember when I started working in an office (doing IT for HR/sales stuff) and it was required to wear business casual, which was decent shoes, collared shirt, and khakis or their equivalent. Now, standards have relaxed and I'm working in a relatively internally-facing group for research IT and no one seems to care

mh 😏, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 14:52 (nine years ago)

yea i ordered them directly from levi's, but the difference in quality between the 501s and the 505s is drastic. the 501s definitely feel like super cheap throwaway denim

marcos, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 14:59 (nine years ago)

there is ostensibly a business casual dress code here, but it's pretty wide open. the director wears a suit and tie everyday, most everyone else wheres khakis and a dress shirt, some of us slobs just wear jeans

marcos, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:02 (nine years ago)

wears wheres

i can usually spell

marcos, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:02 (nine years ago)

if I'm going to spend all day toiling in the code mines I don't need to wear a suit

mh 😏, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:35 (nine years ago)

take them to a professional mender at least

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:38 (nine years ago)

I will probably do something with them, let me vent

mh 😏, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:39 (nine years ago)

btw if u have a pair of jeans that are too long do u 1) get them hemmed or 2) cuff them

marcos, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:40 (nine years ago)

*looks down* I have cuffed them today sir

tbh that depends on the style of jeans and the style of the day, I think we're still in a "cuffing jeans is ok" style era but that may have changed in the last couple years

during the "erryone buying selvedge" times a few years back I saw even more cuffed jeans

mh 😏, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:41 (nine years ago)

yea i tend to cuff too

marcos, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:42 (nine years ago)

thought of you this morning, the gustin jeans my friend gifted to me because he screwed up the size when ordering were on top of a stack so i'm wearing super black jeans

mh 😏, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:44 (nine years ago)

haha

marcos, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 15:45 (nine years ago)

Was thinking big pink shirts and pleated trousers from saved by the bell

I always thought of it as an 80s show but it actually started in 89 so there you go

Fβ™― Aβ™― (∞), Sunday, 19 February 2017 17:22 (nine years ago)

yeah it was early 90s all the way

I that late 80s/early 90s era got brushed away as transitional because many styles and attitudes didn't cleanly map to new things that have been ascendent since then

mh 😏, Sunday, 19 February 2017 17:47 (nine years ago)

i kinda admire their success in conveying the slightly oversize medium shirt (which is prob just back to normal after slim fit foolishness) w/ that partic model and styling and whatnot

pleated khakis not so much

marcos, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 15:40 (nine years ago)

i haven't worn a hoodie in months believe it or not

marcos, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 15:41 (nine years ago)

http://www.adidas.co.uk/xbyo-hoodie/BQ3087.html

Yeah, I've smartened up my look over the winter months - lots of nice blazers and jackets and muted cotton jumpers but Bristol is almost unforgivably casual and spring is practically here now.

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Tuesday, 14 March 2017 15:42 (nine years ago)

oh that is a nice hoodie

marcos, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 15:43 (nine years ago)

i know... it's not that cheap either.

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Tuesday, 14 March 2017 15:44 (nine years ago)

im at the point now when i don't even really want to look at my winter clothes let alone wear them

marcos, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 15:57 (nine years ago)

especially my winter coats

marcos, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 15:58 (nine years ago)

of all the different types of garments i think i am the fussiest about coats. i can wear the same shirt, t-shirt, or pair of jeans every day of the year but i get tired of my coats and jackets after a few months of wearing them

marcos, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 16:00 (nine years ago)

Yeah I've more or less retired my winter coat (thank god), although it's still a bit chilly to go out without some sort of jacket or coat. I'm a bit stumped on that too - need an intermediary coat that looks good and can be worn interseasonally. Some sort of hood for the rain would be ideal although I always think hoods let them down a bit.

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Tuesday, 14 March 2017 16:02 (nine years ago)

what are some good options for affordable non-jogger sweatpants for actual trips to and from the gym? something a step above champion brand. also why is it so hard to find decent crewneck sweatshirts?

just another (diamonddave85), Tuesday, 14 March 2017 17:33 (nine years ago)

i have a drawerful of crewneck sweatshirts, mostly acquired second hand tho

flopson, Tuesday, 14 March 2017 17:53 (nine years ago)

it's nice to be happy with a haircut

marcos, Tuesday, 21 March 2017 13:53 (nine years ago)

i used to hate getting haircuts but for a full year now i've liked every haircut i've had. it is a nice fresh feeling to get a haircut

marcos, Tuesday, 21 March 2017 13:54 (nine years ago)

i'm not bald yet but one thing that i think has helped me w/ haircuts is developing some fundamental honesty about my thinning hair. keeping it shorter is much better and quells the impulse to hide or obscure it

marcos, Tuesday, 21 March 2017 14:03 (nine years ago)

after mb 5 years of having it short i've been keeping some length over last cpl of cuts and i feel much happier with it. also finding a barbers where the laddish energy is of a tolerable character is a big plus

ogmor, Tuesday, 21 March 2017 15:18 (nine years ago)

my self confidence is pretty tightly correlated with how long it's been since my last haircut past week 3 or 4, yet i can rarely fit one in given my work schedule (how do barber shops stay in business? the ones here are all open 9-2pm mon-fri, and closed Sunday. Does EVERYONE who works nine to five get their hair cut on that sliver of a Saturday afternoon they stay open for us?) so i let it grow out and feel like an ugly schlub for weeks

flopson, Tuesday, 21 March 2017 16:06 (nine years ago)

can you take an early/long lunch and just have them rinse you out when you're done?
