guess i'm late but i would not try to tailor denim in the waist, it's also going to be a less-insane deal once you factor in the work.

call all destroyer, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:06 (nine years ago)

ugh can we abolish the word "tactical" from fashion/style discussions

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:09 (nine years ago)

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:10 (nine years ago)

lag∞n, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:15 (nine years ago)

am also an enjoyer of a kind of guise's product images and general sensibility but i've never had any of it to hand either

if it's the quality ur concerned about then for what little it's worth they are fairly well established now, been around a few years and have done collabos with adidas and stuff. the stuff looks good to me

r|t|c, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:32 (nine years ago)

tailor denim in the waist... it's called a belt, c'mon guys

mh 😏, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:32 (nine years ago)

or just order big and regularly drink beers until they fit

mh 😏, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:32 (nine years ago)

xp yeah I looked at more pics of the petit standard jeans and they definitely would have been too skinny. Did actually manage to grab an SA collegiate shirt I liked for <$40.

are these showing up, flyknit air max for $119? almost bought 'em, but came to my senses. it was part of a clearance event which seems to be over.

can't bring myself to buy the knit shoes in snow weather even if it's prime discount season

mh 😏, Sunday, 15 January 2017 20:29 (nine years ago)

this is sorely tempting but i should probably buy new running shoes instead

How long does a flyknit last? A week?

shopping for footwear is the thing i find the hardest. just trying to find a pair of boots in the sale this last week or two. no two makes seem to fit the same - i vary between an 8 and a 9.5, which is exactly the size that most shoe shops run out of the quickest. and unlike other clothing items, it's imperative that you try shoes and boots on before you buy, which makes for a very long and dull shopping process. i ordered online in the end, although i'm skeptical as to whether or not i'll have to send them back after trying them on.

a very good reason to only buy one or two brands of shoe imo
i haven't tried on shoes in a store since - 2010?

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 12:36 (nine years ago)

footwear is the easiest thing for me, footwear and outerwear i could buy endlessly and i'd keep finding new things i like. same with knits or sweaters generally. shirts and trousers are the difficult ones for me, trousers in particular.

xpost i've barely bought anything offline last 3/4 years. a jumper in cos and maybe socks and underwear in uniqlo. i like looking at things in real stores but i'm so used to trying stuff on in the pressure-free environment of my home that the idea of doing so in a store feels bizarre and onerous.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 12:40 (nine years ago)

i also hate salesperson attention or input when i'm thinking about whether i like a thing or not.

Good idea on paper but my budget is always different. It's only recently that I've started to realise what a difference spending a little more on a decent brand can make.

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 13:00 (nine years ago)

it's a boring idea on paper, it's a great idea in practice!

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 13:02 (nine years ago)

I could do without the hassle of returning things so as long as I'm right on the border between medium and large sizes, offline shopping still appeals

ogmor, Wednesday, 18 January 2017 13:54 (nine years ago)

I'm lucky in that regard. One time I went to a Bonobos showroom to find my sizes and the staff told me I was the same dimensions as their mannequins.

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 14:22 (nine years ago)

that explains why you didn't wave back when I thought I saw you at the Bonobos store

By weird series of events I wound up with the too large APC jeans, and the price was $70. Legs are actually quite reasonable and not too skinny, could even be narrower, waist is too big but not clownish, and jeans are too long, so I'm thinking rather than return I may just try shrinking to fit and then have a tailor make up any difference, because I really like the denim and the color. Anyone have experience with doing that/advice?

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Thursday, 19 January 2017 18:53 (nine years ago)

jeans are not meant to be tailored

sell them on ebay

the late great, Thursday, 19 January 2017 19:08 (nine years ago)

otm, stop trying to tailor jeans

call all destroyer, Thursday, 19 January 2017 19:10 (nine years ago)

no you should tailor jeans

also iron a centre crease down the middle of each leg

Islamic State of Mind (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 19 January 2017 19:11 (nine years ago)

tbc I'm asking about shrinking to fit not tailoring, tailoring would just be shortening the legs a bit

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Thursday, 19 January 2017 19:12 (nine years ago)

i should correct that - you can certainly hem the legs but taking in the waist is a bad idea.

if you want to try to shrink them in hot water keep in mind they're not going to shrink much more than 1" in the waist and length, and that while some APC jeans will shrink, some APC jeans are sanforized and won't shrink. so make sure they're actually unsnaforized before you try to shrink them.

the late great, Thursday, 19 January 2017 19:13 (nine years ago)

also if you try to shrink them aggressively with hot water, the color is going to change

sell them on ebay

the late great, Thursday, 19 January 2017 19:15 (nine years ago)

how about a big ole belt
