all part of the wallet game mi amigo

i was at a staff meeting the other day, about 20-25 people present, and i looked around and noticed that every male in the room except one had a beard or some type of facial hair. in my workplace department as a whole only 3 men shave. i work in academia so i suppose the standards are different but we are a good 10 years into beards "coming back" and now they've basically reached ubiquity

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 15:54 (nine years ago)

apparently they've been on the way out for a while now, but i still wear a beard. seeing photos of me clean-shaven from a few years back looks weird. p sure i look better with than without.

the experience of shaving is bad

i'm one-grade all over and balding i need a beard or i look like an old baby

i agree. that's prob the main reason i have a beard, my facial hair is extremely thick and it would take me about 45 minutes to shave in a way that minimized irritation. way easier to just use hair clippers with a 1/8" guard every few weeks

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 16:11 (nine years ago)

i like the way they look too though

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 16:12 (nine years ago)

i shave my beard off fully every 7/8 weeks just to feel my face again and maybe moisturise it a bit. i also like the changing feeling of it growing back from zero.

Anyone on here wear/know about A Kind of Guise? They have some very lovely looking things, but alas no stockists in North America. A new(ish) line from German designers based in Munich (or Berlin?).

I'm thinking about ordering some stuff online from them as they have some nice sales of their winter line. Not many reviews or anything online, though.

Would it be a bad idea to buy a pair of APC New Standard jeans 2 inches above my waist size and tailor in order to get a killer deal?

you could *whispers* wash them and they'll shrink to your waist size

mh 😏, Friday, 13 January 2017 18:42 (nine years ago)

sorry petit standard not new standard

lol this is like the time I really wanted some slippers to wear around the house and after a couple drinks ordered some overpriced ones from a facebook ad because it seemed funny

once on their email list I found out they're really a lifestyle image company that only makes slippers. all kinds of images like that, little blurbs about restaurant trends and all this stuff.

every product is now a lifestyle brand

mh 😏, Friday, 13 January 2017 18:50 (nine years ago)

oh well, literally everything I wanted sold out in the SA 60% off sale sale before I could even check out.

have u tried them on or is this online, good chance they wont fit u even at that waist, theyre p skinny, also its prob a bad idea just to begin with getting them tailored wld totally fuck with the cut and the cut is a lot of what youre paying for

lag∞n, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:03 (nine years ago)

ha well there u go xp

lag∞n, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:03 (nine years ago)

guess i'm late but i would not try to tailor denim in the waist, it's also going to be a less-insane deal once you factor in the work.

call all destroyer, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:06 (nine years ago)

ugh can we abolish the word "tactical" from fashion/style discussions

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:09 (nine years ago)

(that wallet ad)

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:10 (nine years ago)

agree, i only buy strategic wallets

lag∞n, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:15 (nine years ago)

am also an enjoyer of a kind of guise's product images and general sensibility but i've never had any of it to hand either

if it's the quality ur concerned about then for what little it's worth they are fairly well established now, been around a few years and have done collabos with adidas and stuff. the stuff looks good to me

r|t|c, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:32 (nine years ago)

tailor denim in the waist... it's called a belt, c'mon guys

mh 😏, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:32 (nine years ago)

or just order big and regularly drink beers until they fit

mh 😏, Friday, 13 January 2017 19:32 (nine years ago)

xp yeah I looked at more pics of the petit standard jeans and they definitely would have been too skinny. Did actually manage to grab an SA collegiate shirt I liked for <$40.

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Friday, 13 January 2017 19:37 (nine years ago)

404, maybe it sold out?

are these showing up, flyknit air max for $119? almost bought 'em, but came to my senses. it was part of a clearance event which seems to be over.

can't bring myself to buy the knit shoes in snow weather even if it's prime discount season

mh 😏, Sunday, 15 January 2017 20:29 (nine years ago)

this is sorely tempting but i should probably buy new running shoes instead

Nike 50% off, some good stuff, I bought Air Max 2013 for $75

shopping for footwear is the thing i find the hardest. just trying to find a pair of boots in the sale this last week or two. no two makes seem to fit the same - i vary between an 8 and a 9.5, which is exactly the size that most shoe shops run out of the quickest. and unlike other clothing items, it's imperative that you try shoes and boots on before you buy, which makes for a very long and dull shopping process. i ordered online in the end, although i'm skeptical as to whether or not i'll have to send them back after trying them on.

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 12:19 (nine years ago)

a very good reason to only buy one or two brands of shoe imo
i haven't tried on shoes in a store since - 2010?

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 12:36 (nine years ago)

footwear is the easiest thing for me, footwear and outerwear i could buy endlessly and i'd keep finding new things i like. same with knits or sweaters generally. shirts and trousers are the difficult ones for me, trousers in particular.

xpost i've barely bought anything offline last 3/4 years. a jumper in cos and maybe socks and underwear in uniqlo. i like looking at things in real stores but i'm so used to trying stuff on in the pressure-free environment of my home that the idea of doing so in a store feels bizarre and onerous.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 12:40 (nine years ago)

i also hate salesperson attention or input when i'm thinking about whether i like a thing or not.

Good idea on paper but my budget is always different. It's only recently that I've started to realise what a difference spending a little more on a decent brand can make.

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 13:00 (nine years ago)

it's a boring idea on paper, it's a great idea in practice!

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 13:02 (nine years ago)

I could do without the hassle of returning things so as long as I'm right on the border between medium and large sizes, offline shopping still appeals

ogmor, Wednesday, 18 January 2017 13:54 (nine years ago)

I'm lucky in that regard. One time I went to a Bonobos showroom to find my sizes and the staff told me I was the same dimensions as their mannequins.

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 14:22 (nine years ago)

that explains why you didn't wave back when I thought I saw you at the Bonobos store

mh 😏, Wednesday, 18 January 2017 15:03 (nine years ago)

think I'm swearing off buying a new suit for awhile though.
