yeah just get a cardholder with a space for notes. once you do this you'll wonder why you ever bothered with one of those bizarrely huge men's wallets.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:38 (nine years ago)

I had the exact same saddleback leather one in a lighter color until I lost it last year. Would definitely recommend over basically all the mr porter options in the same price range.

comme des garcons make nice wallets that cost less than 100, i mean if you care about even spending that much.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:55 (nine years ago)

i would never get light-coloured tho, don't you find it gets dirty? black all the way. even then i find after a year or so they start to smell a bit funky.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:56 (nine years ago)

I like my wallet by *frantically searches wallet for a label somewhere*... bellroy? idk who this is but I like my wallet and the leather still looks relatively new after a couple years

My other half gave me a good wallet for my last birthday -
http://www.barnesandmoore.co.uk/shop/wallets/quartermasters-wallet-oxblood-horween-chromexcel-edition/
It's the kind of thing I couldn't justify buying myself & it pleases me to take it out of my pocket. I think it'll age well.

woof, Monday, 9 January 2017 21:18 (nine years ago)

years ago i had a brief fling with this girl whose dad owned some luxe handbag company, and she gave me a wallet for my birthday, presumably she got it for free. it was like beautiful brown leather, amazing. shortly after that ended i was in a more long-term relationship and my gf at the time really hated the fact that that was my wallet, i guess cos she didn't like the person who gave it to me. in the end with a heavy heart i stopped using it, but only after stubbornly defending the quality of the wallet for some time. dunno where it is now, somewhere in my parents' house but probably lost.

It darkened over the years, evenly, but that's supposed to happen. With full grain leather you can use saddle soap and a little water to get rid of any discoloration and smells.

also localgarda why did you even tell her who gave it to you
sounds like something your partner would not ask unless you voluntarily say something

Given the story I just assumed it was some flash brand that announced its ostentatiousness loudly every time it was taken out of a trouser pocket

it was obvious from the brand of the wallet!

a. cash rules b. if you have yr bills all folded up ur a cuck

i fold my bills once with the fold of the wallet, they unfold as i unfold the wallet. we aren't post-cash yet though, i totally agree. cash is better for splitting bills with friends or for when i want to just leave a restaurant quickly after they've brought the bill - most restaurants end up leaving some slack at the point of payment, not the best ones but the rest, ime.

i'm sure i can think of other examples where cash is better too, if i try.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 22:02 (nine years ago)

some literal trash

i hate to say but i have literally thrown pennies and nickels in the trash sometimes

marcos, Monday, 9 January 2017 22:08 (nine years ago)

marcos, Monday, 9 January 2017 22:08 (nine years ago)

i have a big cloth sack full of coins under my bed. i moved house recently and i didn't even want to bring it but it felt crass to throw it away.

i hate using cash but i like going to hole in the wall places so i have to keep some handy sometimes but i always give them the change

congratulations on being a cuck for the illuminati

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 00:36 (nine years ago)

stop saying cuck!

My spouse is an odd bird. Dude rolls out of the house in tailored Hugh and Crye shirts, perfectly tailored pants from either Epaulet or Sid Mashburn, Alden shoes, a gorgeous and cozy black Burberry trench (I borrow it sometimes even though it is too big on me). . . and a velcro wallet that cost less than a buck.

His running gear is in line with the velcro wallet. It is a strange mash-up of stuff from Kohl's, all of which he complains cost too much.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Tuesday, 10 January 2017 00:57 (nine years ago)

i wish to continue saying cuck

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 01:07 (nine years ago)

velcro wallet man is gonna be a cuck if he doesn't figure out this wallet prob

mh 😏, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 01:31 (nine years ago)

i'm with your husband q, i can be convinced to spend money on a lot of things but i have a 10 dollar cardholder/clip thing from the wilson's leather outlet. wallets are purely functional items to me.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 01:51 (nine years ago)

yeah I guess running/work out clothes fall into the "purely functional" category.

Cuck you, lagoon!

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Tuesday, 10 January 2017 01:55 (nine years ago)

yeah any nice running clothes i have are christmas gifts, if it's up to me i'm going to target and buying whatever is cheap.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 01:58 (nine years ago)

as long as there's no chafing or retained bad smells no one cares

mh 😏, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 02:05 (nine years ago)

as with wallets, full grain leather and saddle soap are your friend

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Tuesday, 10 January 2017 02:21 (nine years ago)

My favorite wallet was a velcro one that I got from Busch Gardens that said "I survived the Loch Ness Monster".

Jeff, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 10:48 (nine years ago)

i'm in the wallet = functional team. my mum got me a fairly nice wallet for christmas one year and it fell apart after a few weeks. got another one from family bargains of all places and it's lasted me years...

i was at a staff meeting the other day, about 20-25 people present, and i looked around and noticed that every male in the room except one had a beard or some type of facial hair. in my workplace department as a whole only 3 men shave. i work in academia so i suppose the standards are different but we are a good 10 years into beards "coming back" and now they've basically reached ubiquity

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 15:54 (nine years ago)

apparently they've been on the way out for a while now, but i still wear a beard. seeing photos of me clean-shaven from a few years back looks weird. p sure i look better with than without.

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Friday, 13 January 2017 16:03 (nine years ago)

the experience of shaving is bad

― lag∞n, Friday, January 13, 2017 11:04 AM (four minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

i agree. that's prob the main reason i have a beard, my facial hair is extremely thick and it would take me about 45 minutes to shave in a way that minimized irritation. way easier to just use hair clippers with a 1/8" guard every few weeks

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 16:11 (nine years ago)

i like the way they look too though

marcos, Friday, 13 January 2017 16:12 (nine years ago)

i shave my beard off fully every 7/8 weeks just to feel my face again and maybe moisturise it a bit. i also like the changing feeling of it growing back from zero.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 13 January 2017 16:18 (nine years ago)

Anyone on here wear/know about A Kind of Guise? They have some very lovely looking things, but alas no stockists in North America. A new(ish) line from German designers based in Munich (or Berlin?).

I'm thinking about ordering some stuff online from them as they have some nice sales of their winter line. Not many reviews or anything online, though.
