IMO cords have to be straight leg or relaxed. Slim / tapered cords make you look uncomfortable.

I have some bright BRIGHT blue Levi's cords that are sooo comfortable

I also have two corduroy blazers because I am Wes Anderson

it's true, i googled up a picture of you once and thought "wow this is one wes anderson-looking information security motherfucker"

the late great, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 05:25 (nine years ago)

research suggests there is a 0.01% probability that you are pulling this off without nauseating your colleagues

i'm fond of wider wale cords straight leg (blocky short too) in a slouchy vibe where they are the main point of interest, with like just a tshirt possibly tucked in

profesh setting they are a bit fusty/fussy, unlikely to come off <50 unless u have a certain gravitas

i get what ur saying tho slim needlecords can be a bit jcrew and fail to transmit essence of cord

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 10:54 (nine years ago)

thread made me go away and count just how many pairs of cords i have mindlessly acquired 4 cheap over the years and now i despise myself

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 10:56 (nine years ago)

gis'd bostons and while still abhoring the shoe i find myself sympathetic to ppl wearing them with thick winter socks

did full preppy similar with a pair of deck shoes recently and it wasnt as bad as it most undoubtedly sounds

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 11:00 (nine years ago)

wait hang on a minute here - if you feel "hygge" at work then where's my $4 coffee

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 12:56 (nine years ago)

i had a $4 coffee yesterday :(

marcos, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 14:50 (nine years ago)

i wore bostons to work a few years ago but it was during the summer

marcos, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 14:51 (nine years ago)

i wear dundee birks to work now, they are basically the closed shoe version of the boston w/ laces. tbh ive gotten compliments but mostly from older hippie colleagues

rip van wanko, Monday, 9 January 2017 20:30 (nine years ago)

yeah just get a cardholder with a space for notes. once you do this you'll wonder why you ever bothered with one of those bizarrely huge men's wallets.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:38 (nine years ago)

I had the exact same saddleback leather one in a lighter color until I lost it last year. Would definitely recommend over basically all the mr porter options in the same price range.

comme des garcons make nice wallets that cost less than 100, i mean if you care about even spending that much.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:55 (nine years ago)

i would never get light-coloured tho, don't you find it gets dirty? black all the way. even then i find after a year or so they start to smell a bit funky.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:56 (nine years ago)

I like my wallet by *frantically searches wallet for a label somewhere*... bellroy? idk who this is but I like my wallet and the leather still looks relatively new after a couple years

My other half gave me a good wallet for my last birthday -
http://www.barnesandmoore.co.uk/shop/wallets/quartermasters-wallet-oxblood-horween-chromexcel-edition/
It's the kind of thing I couldn't justify buying myself & it pleases me to take it out of my pocket. I think it'll age well.

woof, Monday, 9 January 2017 21:18 (nine years ago)

years ago i had a brief fling with this girl whose dad owned some luxe handbag company, and she gave me a wallet for my birthday, presumably she got it for free. it was like beautiful brown leather, amazing. shortly after that ended i was in a more long-term relationship and my gf at the time really hated the fact that that was my wallet, i guess cos she didn't like the person who gave it to me. in the end with a heavy heart i stopped using it, but only after stubbornly defending the quality of the wallet for some time. dunno where it is now, somewhere in my parents' house but probably lost.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 21:25 (nine years ago)

It darkened over the years, evenly, but that's supposed to happen. With full grain leather you can use saddle soap and a little water to get rid of any discoloration and smells.

also localgarda why did you even tell her who gave it to you
sounds like something your partner would not ask unless you voluntarily say something

Given the story I just assumed it was some flash brand that announced its ostentatiousness loudly every time it was taken out of a trouser pocket

it was obvious from the brand of the wallet!

a. cash rules b. if you have yr bills all folded up ur a cuck

i fold my bills once with the fold of the wallet, they unfold as i unfold the wallet. we aren't post-cash yet though, i totally agree. cash is better for splitting bills with friends or for when i want to just leave a restaurant quickly after they've brought the bill - most restaurants end up leaving some slack at the point of payment, not the best ones but the rest, ime.

i'm sure i can think of other examples where cash is better too, if i try.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 22:02 (nine years ago)

i hate to say but i have literally thrown pennies and nickels in the trash sometimes
