lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:31 (nine years ago)

ya i only wear needlecords cos my dad used to wear jumbo cords when i was a kid so i associate jumbo cords with grandad-wear

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:35 (nine years ago)

i've mentioned this before but my friend had a pair of like double jumbo JNCO cords that i thought were the coolest pants i had ever seen when i was 14, he let me borrow them a few times. the cord lines were like half an inch thick

marcos, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:36 (nine years ago)

JNCO CORDUROYS

marcos, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:37 (nine years ago)

The width of the cord is commonly referred to as the size of the "wale" (i.e. the number of ridges per inch).[4] The lower the "wale" number, the thicker the width of the wale (e.g., 4-wale is much thicker than 11-wale). Corduroy’s wale count per inch can vary from 1.5 to 21, although the traditional standard falls somewhere between 10 and 12. Wide wale is more commonly used in trousers and furniture upholstery (primarily couches); medium, narrow, and fine wale fabrics are usually found in garments worn above the waist.

there's the grandad connection

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:44 (nine years ago)

i like narrower cords as part of a stuffy wasp look with oxfords and big sweaters.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:47 (nine years ago)

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 3 January 2017 21:44 (nine years ago)

marcos, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 21:54 (nine years ago)

btw i ordered a bunch of new levis today, good sales, most were like $40 and a pair of selvedge for about $70

marcos, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 22:35 (nine years ago)

IMO cords have to be straight leg or relaxed. Slim / tapered cords make you look uncomfortable.

I have some bright BRIGHT blue Levi's cords that are sooo comfortable

I also have two corduroy blazers because I am Wes Anderson

it's true, i googled up a picture of you once and thought "wow this is one wes anderson-looking information security motherfucker"

marcos, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 04:25 (nine years ago)

the late great, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 05:25 (nine years ago)

research suggests there is a 0.01% probability that you are pulling this off without nauseating your colleagues

i'm fond of wider wale cords straight leg (blocky short too) in a slouchy vibe where they are the main point of interest, with like just a tshirt possibly tucked in

profesh setting they are a bit fusty/fussy, unlikely to come off <50 unless u have a certain gravitas

i get what ur saying tho slim needlecords can be a bit jcrew and fail to transmit essence of cord

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 10:54 (nine years ago)

thread made me go away and count just how many pairs of cords i have mindlessly acquired 4 cheap over the years and now i despise myself

r|t|c, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 10:56 (nine years ago)

gis'd bostons and while still abhoring the shoe i find myself sympathetic to ppl wearing them with thick winter socks

did full preppy similar with a pair of deck shoes recently and it wasnt as bad as it most undoubtedly sounds

wait hang on a minute here - if you feel "hygge" at work then where's my $4 coffee

The beaver is not the bad guy (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 4 January 2017 12:56 (nine years ago)

i had a $4 coffee yesterday :(

marcos, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 14:50 (nine years ago)

i wore bostons to work a few years ago but it was during the summer

marcos, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 14:51 (nine years ago)

i wear dundee birks to work now, they are basically the closed shoe version of the boston w/ laces. tbh ive gotten compliments but mostly from older hippie colleagues

marcos, Wednesday, 4 January 2017 14:52 (nine years ago)

Which would you choose? Heavy subjunctive here given the prices

A simple leather cardholder. There are a couple that aren't insane if you sort price L-H

F♯ A♯ (∞), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:28 (nine years ago)

mr porter having its annual sale btw
https://www.mrporter.com/en-us/mens/sale

rip van wanko, Monday, 9 January 2017 20:30 (nine years ago)

yeah just get a cardholder with a space for notes. once you do this you'll wonder why you ever bothered with one of those bizarrely huge men's wallets.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:38 (nine years ago)

I had the exact same saddleback leather one in a lighter color until I lost it last year. Would definitely recommend over basically all the mr porter options in the same price range.

comme des garcons make nice wallets that cost less than 100, i mean if you care about even spending that much.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 January 2017 20:55 (nine years ago)

i would never get light-coloured tho, don't you find it gets dirty? black all the way. even then i find after a year or so they start to smell a bit funky.
