F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:43 (nine years ago)

not funny guys i'm .., anoraksik

srsly wtf is a parka though, like strict definitionwise

flopson, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:50 (nine years ago)

hooded thigh length jacket

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:53 (nine years ago)

so if something rests above hips or below knee, it's not a parka?

flopson, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:55 (nine years ago)

if its longer it cn still be a parka but those r usually only for ladies or extreme cold

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:56 (nine years ago)

actually jealous of ladies calf length parkas, thats a complete ecosystem

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:56 (nine years ago)

ah nice, thx

and the ones that sit on waist are bombers?

flopson, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:58 (nine years ago)

or bomber has no hood?

flopson, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:58 (nine years ago)

bomber cannot have a hood

marcos, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:59 (nine years ago)

need a complete taxonomy

flopson, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:59 (nine years ago)

i always thought bombers had the big elastic at the waist and collar, not sure what u call just a regular ol jacket

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 19:59 (nine years ago)

why would a pilot wear a hood

and that is the origin of the bomber jacket

marcos, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:00 (nine years ago)

atrocious fashion is not confined to practicality

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:02 (nine years ago)

mountain parkas are only waist length

the late great, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:14 (nine years ago)

i love sagan

marcos, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:14 (nine years ago)

just below the ass is not the waist

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:14 (nine years ago)

analrak

F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:16 (nine years ago)

lag∞n otm but let's not get distracted from the larger issue which is that mountain parkas are dope

the late great, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:30 (nine years ago)

ive owned more than 5 woolrich mountain parkas in my life

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:32 (nine years ago)

holubar reissued the deniro one this year but it's a bit expensive

http://www.backcountry.com/holubar-deer-hunter-jacket-mens

sierra designs reissued the sagan one about five years ago ... the color is called rust and the jacket is called the short (!) parka ... much more reasonable price point (iirc about $200) but impossible to find now

the late great, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:35 (nine years ago)

japanese resellers asking 3 or 4 bills on rakuten but you can still find them cheap on ebay

in fact there's a rust one in XL sitting on ebay right now for $80 ... hmm ... too bad rust's not really my color

the late great, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:36 (nine years ago)

this is my "parka", its navy poplin so very light and more reasonable for my climate (70 F today)

http://www.hickorees.com/brand/battenwear/product/travel-shell-parka-2-navy-poplin

i like 60/40 material okay but at the end of the day i'd just rather buy goretex if i am going to spend a lot of money

the late great, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:41 (nine years ago)

man alive

that looks like this down coat from uniqlo: https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/men-seamless-down-coat-172993.html

who cares about the precise names for these things

― F♯ A♯ (∞), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 18:54 (one hour ago) Permalink

yeah, this is a nice coat. Mine looks more different in person than you might think but I see the similarity. I think my co-worker has the uniqlo one and it's v nice, I initially thought it was a fancier/more expensive coat.

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:43 (nine years ago)

just got this parka: http://www.alphaindustries.com/mens-parkas/alpha-industries-slim-fit-n-3b-parka.htm

loved my bomber so much that i got a longer one with a furry hood

just another (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:58 (nine years ago)

those are nice, super official heavy duty realness, love the navy / orange combination

the late great, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 20:59 (nine years ago)

yeah pretty good quality at a decent price. probably not as warm as a canada goose but more than enough for my needs

just another (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 21 December 2016 21:03 (nine years ago)

military style arctic parka is a mega classic design imo

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 21:03 (nine years ago)

maroon/orange there is speaking to me

r|t|c, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 21:03 (nine years ago)

tbh i was torn between navy, maroon, black with black fur, black with brown fur, and sage. ended up going with the classic sage though

I don't know if I've posted this before, but I've considered this:

Jeff, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 21:06 (nine years ago)

rip van wanko, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 21:43 (nine years ago)

nice

lag∞n, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 21:45 (nine years ago)

If I wasn't way too big for it, I would be tempted to wear my grandfather's actual WW2 bomber jacket once or twice. The outer layer hasn't aged well but I tried it on once and it's super thick

ideal for co-piloting a poorly insulated aircraft thousands of feet over europe

i went jeansless for about a year and a half, it was good, would like to get back to that tbh

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 24 December 2016 14:59 (nine years ago)

im not a fan of stretch jeans, feels unnatural to me in a pair of jeans

marcos, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 16:33 (nine years ago)

been sporting cords lately and this chick was like omg ive not seen anyone wear cords in forever

but im a jeans guy
just trying to spice it up a bit

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 3 January 2017 17:47 (nine years ago)

man i used to wear cords all the time, those were the days

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 19:47 (nine years ago)

I've been moving into cords.
I got some burgundy needlecords last year. But my wife said 'they are a bit Tory', so I am too ashamed to wear them.
Now I've got some navy cords. I'm optimistic about this pair.
And I think I can move back into the red cords if I dress them down a bit.

woof, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 19:54 (nine years ago)

I thought I was safe because jumbo cord is more tory than needlecord, but I was wrong, the red trouser problem prevailed.

woof, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:00 (nine years ago)

i could use a new pair of cords

marcos, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:19 (nine years ago)

i just bought this woolrich shirt at sam's outdoor outfitters in brattleboro, VT, one of the best stores http://www.woolrich.com/woolrich/details/men-s-oxbow-bend-plaid-flannel-shirt/_/R-6111?skuId=728175479093

marcos, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:25 (nine years ago)

nice shirt

lag∞n, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:31 (nine years ago)

ya i only wear needlecords cos my dad used to wear jumbo cords when i was a kid so i associate jumbo cords with grandad-wear

F♯ A♯ (∞), Tuesday, 3 January 2017 20:35 (nine years ago)

i've mentioned this before but my friend had a pair of like double jumbo JNCO cords that i thought were the coolest pants i had ever seen when i was 14, he let me borrow them a few times. the cord lines were like half an inch thick
