tbf you're imagining you have a closet and not a bag of clothes

get a clothes sack in prince of wales check

im imagining being alive not a corpse aloft the briny toss

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:56 (nine years ago)

what is the prince of wales but an old leathery clothes sack

ogmor, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:57 (nine years ago)

i feel like i've reached some kind of equilibrium in which i feel very satisfied with my wardrobe and i've barely bought any new clothes in a while. almost the only new things i've bought lately have been a couple very solid thrift finds. i feel like i could use a new flannel or denim shirt or two and that's all i really need for the moment

I've read Ta-nehisi Coates. (marcos), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:58 (nine years ago)

summerweight prince of wales is a great suit imo! gotta be a full suit tho, i don't think it works as a jacket-only fabric.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:18 (nine years ago)

i've seen some nice jacket-only ones - not really my thing but i thought they looked good, i guess it can vary a bit with material.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:40 (nine years ago)

i'd be interested in an example of that, it just seems like a pretty darn formal fabric to me. like i can't picture the pants you'd wear with it.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:42 (nine years ago)

it's a good pantsless jacket ime

hey so i got this jacket which is otherwise perfect but... it's got this thing with, like, a raw cut? the front pockets are normal but the sleeves etc. get kind of weird after a few hours-- what the hell is this?

dylannn, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:55 (nine years ago)

if you're not going to wear pants a top-notch jacket is key

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:56 (nine years ago)

as the grandson of a tailor i can tell you, you should never wear pants with any jacket, ever.

i am in need of topsiders atm

surm, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 18:35 (nine years ago)

Ok v basic question: boots under $100 that stand up well to rain and deep snow but are still comfortable and non-clunky enough to walk long distances on city sidewalks and subway commute. My snow boots are p much only useful in like 6 inches plus of snow.

sadly I think the dollar figure at the beginning of your equation is where you might be getting stuck

These are $95 -- thoughts?

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 18 December 2016 16:47 (nine years ago)

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 18 December 2016 16:47 (nine years ago)

timberlands are about $110

actually i think you'll find if you look on page 93729 in your copy of take ivy it very clearly states "timbs all seasons for ass kicking reasons"

r|t|c, Sunday, 18 December 2016 21:04 (nine years ago)

recommend me some reasonably biz-caj looking timbs then

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Sunday, 18 December 2016 21:42 (nine years ago)

cmon man all of them count if you're allowing those sorels

mh 😏, Monday, 19 December 2016 02:12 (nine years ago)

there are no biz-caj snowboots yall

call all destroyer, Monday, 19 December 2016 02:13 (nine years ago)

depends on the biz

mh 😏, Monday, 19 December 2016 02:14 (nine years ago)

remember when business casual originally meant "not a suit, but nearly a suit" and went through the "something with khakis" phase including polo shirts (some ppl will forever be in khaki land) and now it's just... don't wear a non-craft beer t-shirt

mh 😏, Monday, 19 December 2016 02:16 (nine years ago)

the slipperiest of slopes

call all destroyer, Monday, 19 December 2016 02:19 (nine years ago)

I guess I don't really mean biz caj, I just mean some timbs that don't look like the classic work boots but are still usable as snow boots.

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Monday, 19 December 2016 02:32 (nine years ago)

i wear black Blundstones to work in a bizcaj office, sometimes i even forget to take them off and no one's ever mentioned it. wear thick socks and put cow goo on them to protect the leather. going into second QuΓ©bec winter looking good as new

yah a chelsea boot works pretty well

I wanted some non-insulated higher boots last year and just grabbed some of the matte doc martens

mh 😏, Monday, 19 December 2016 03:36 (nine years ago)

love boots. winter fashion generally is so much more fun - i realised this year that in the summer i just feel like tintin for the duration, shorts and sneakers and a t-shirt or whatever, comfortable but almost impossible to feel you're actually dressed well in any sense. whereas stomping out of the house in boots, coat, scarf and a big knit just feels so much better.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 19 December 2016 08:56 (nine years ago)

I love boots. They're my default & I've got enough variants on the brown boot to cover everything short of high summer.
Sometimes wish I could justify lined boots. I see Loake Wolfs with a third to a half off now and again, but I know I sit in an office and my feet would get far too hot.

woof, Monday, 19 December 2016 11:16 (nine years ago)

Also I don't think the English winter is cold enough. But I might hunt for a nice pair of heavy, veldtschoen-welted boots in the sales.

woof, Monday, 19 December 2016 11:23 (nine years ago)

haven't worn boots in a long time. my default winter shows are some Nike Air Force Ones that are actually quite bulky but manage to keep the wet out while still being bouncy enough to chip around in quite comfortably. I find footwear the hardest thing to shop for. wouldn't mind getting some boots though.

i'd care more if i had to walk outside for any great distance

minus 13 degrees celsius this morning. stay warm, fellows

mh 😏, Monday, 19 December 2016 14:49 (nine years ago)

hitting minus four in dublin tonight, which is cold for these parts.

ive been tossing around the idea of getting some modern military boots this winter, something along the lines of these:

http://i.imgur.com/zsZxQhx.jpg

sometimes i think they look cool as hell, sometimes i think they look too "tech". any thoughts?

just another (diamonddave85), Monday, 19 December 2016 18:15 (nine years ago)

I can't believe what you can get away with in uniform now

xp I think the word you're looking for is "tactical."

those are awesomely hideous, you can see why the moisture would want to stay away from them

unfortunately nike acgs fall apart ime, and not like on a normal "oh well my boots fell apart" schedule

starting new boots thread

a Warren Beatty film about Earth (El Tomboto), Monday, 19 December 2016 19:37 (nine years ago)

iirc they rebooted "acg" as a brand so it's not even the same product line

mh 😏, Monday, 19 December 2016 20:05 (nine years ago)

i need to order Levi's like it's my job

surm, Wednesday, 21 December 2016 15:48 (nine years ago)

Have been stubbornly anti-puffer-coat for some reason, but my winter coat ripped and I got this off ebay in pretty close to new condition for $48. It rules. I love wearing a sleeping bag around and I feel silly for ever knocking it.
