not heard of it! will have a look, ta

i know what you mean though about garish, i suppose the ~dapperness~ pertains mostly to the super masculine shouldery silhouette of topcoats in general (and your classic mac will be similarly structured) but the camel does have a particular cliche

in vaguely related news how about the checks and tartan comeback going from dead to near-played out in record time this autumn, or so it seems to me. bit of a shame really cos i quite enjoy it tbh

r|t|c, Wednesday, 2 November 2016 12:58 (nine years ago)

yeah - i mean i saw an apc one recently and was tempted, nice thick wool, could imagine it looking well, but also in a british winter it'll prob be covered in stains and stuff after a while of wet days and dragging it around.

the check thing is one of those many "trends" that men's fashion journalists claim to have "returned" every single year, despite the fact that if i look around my office now there will be check shirts everywhere and the same would be true anytime in the last... 10 years? longer? uniqlo kind of murdered the plaid shirt a bit but i still like it.

i got a nonnative band collar sort of vintage-looking wool black/white/grey one with a loose fit and a slightly longer line at the back - that's me for shirts this winter.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 2 November 2016 14:02 (nine years ago)

it's more like big statementy checks tho, agree shirts will always be there but full trousers and coats is def a slight shift i think - 70s minimal softness bringing in the indulgent chintz

r|t|c, Wednesday, 2 November 2016 14:36 (nine years ago)

yeah i was going to say checks that aren't on shirts does feel like a bigger thing, or patches of check or whatever. i think they're nice but most examples i've seen are like £3000 coats.

To a certain extent, SBS has started to imitate YKK’s strategies, assembling an in-house research and development team and amassing more than 380 patents — a number second only to their Japanese rival.

the mind boggles

thinking of grabbing a pair of gustin jeans, what's the sizing like for the raw? do i need to size down?

just another (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 30 November 2016 15:54 (nine years ago)

I found they run small compared to typical store-bought jeans. Truer to real waist size. Probably measuring yourself is the best bet.

circa1916, Wednesday, 30 November 2016 16:06 (nine years ago)

that is ...a very comprehensive fit guide. thanks!

just another (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 30 November 2016 16:12 (nine years ago)

yeah just to reinforce their sizing is very very different from other brands. measure everything carefully.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 30 November 2016 17:09 (nine years ago)

Good on them for what they do, but it's the reason I never ordered another pair of jeans from them -- fit is hard to figure out, then there's a long lag time, and then it's hard to return, and it's still more than I usually pay.

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Wednesday, 30 November 2016 17:16 (nine years ago)

it's great for unexpected benificiaries! I'm wearing a pair of gustin jeans that my friend ordered but bought a size too small :)

mh 😏, Wednesday, 30 November 2016 18:47 (nine years ago)

to get back to camel coats. they are VERY popular with middle-class chinese girls studying in europe. fwiw.

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 30 November 2016 20:26 (nine years ago)

ogmor, Wednesday, 30 November 2016 20:35 (nine years ago)

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 14:53 (nine years ago)

I believe that's called Prince of Wales check

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 14:56 (nine years ago)

cool thank u they have one at burberry for only 2 grand

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:02 (nine years ago)

does that include pants or is it just the jacket for 2k

mh 😏, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:03 (nine years ago)

I have a pair of Prince of Wales trousers I got at steep discount from bonobos, they're kind of meh -- too low rise and the material is kind of thin and the stitching is weak.

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:06 (nine years ago)

you'll get prince of wales check in loads of places, suit supply, anywhere and everywhere, i've seen loads of it around last few years. dunno if you want a full suit but if it was just a jacket i saw many of those knocking about.

are you planning on being the new face of the alt-right?

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:08 (nine years ago)

were you ripped off by the primates xp

mh 😏, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:08 (nine years ago)

im actually more alt-alt-right

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:36 (nine years ago)

once you get that alt-right you may as well be alt-left

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:49 (nine years ago)

by choosing to buy this for your closet you've made things a lot easier on yourself re size, condition etc.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:49 (nine years ago)

feel i cld make it even easier by just imagining its in my closet

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:51 (nine years ago)

tbf you're imagining you have a closet and not a bag of clothes

mh 😏, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:53 (nine years ago)

holy dammit Benetton is all online now in the US? nobody tells me this shit

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:53 (nine years ago)

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:55 (nine years ago)

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:55 (nine years ago)

tbf you're imagining you have a closet and not a bag of clothes

get a clothes sack in prince of wales check

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:55 (nine years ago)

im imagining being alive not a corpse aloft the briny toss

lag∞n, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:56 (nine years ago)

what is the prince of wales but an old leathery clothes sack

ogmor, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:57 (nine years ago)

i feel like i've reached some kind of equilibrium in which i feel very satisfied with my wardrobe and i've barely bought any new clothes in a while. almost the only new things i've bought lately have been a couple very solid thrift finds. i feel like i could use a new flannel or denim shirt or two and that's all i really need for the moment

I've read Ta-nehisi Coates. (marcos), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:58 (nine years ago)

the pattern was named for the crisscross of tattoos he has all over his body

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 15:59 (nine years ago)

summerweight prince of wales is a great suit imo! gotta be a full suit tho, i don't think it works as a jacket-only fabric.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:18 (nine years ago)

i've seen some nice jacket-only ones - not really my thing but i thought they looked good, i guess it can vary a bit with material.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:40 (nine years ago)

i'd be interested in an example of that, it just seems like a pretty darn formal fabric to me. like i can't picture the pants you'd wear with it.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:42 (nine years ago)

it's a good pantsless jacket ime

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:55 (nine years ago)

http://i.imgur.com/DVNn5zS.jpg

hey so i got this jacket which is otherwise perfect but... it's got this thing with, like, a raw cut? the front pockets are normal but the sleeves etc. get kind of weird after a few hours-- what the hell is this?

dylannn, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:55 (nine years ago)

if you're not going to wear pants a top-notch jacket is key

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 16:56 (nine years ago)

as the grandson of a tailor i can tell you, you should never wear pants with any jacket, ever.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 17:04 (nine years ago)
