i love style needs to get their hair did

Argh, I finally used the Feria I bought 6 weeks ago, thinking it would be similar to the Hydrience shade I loved. But no, it is very much light reddish blonde now, rather than a warm golden brown. Also, much more frizzy ;_;

The other thing I liked about Hydrience is the the package of pre-coloring conditioner stuff - which was Pantene, but why can't I just buy separately?? All I could find was a L'Oreal primer online.

Feria is a dodgy one. Sometimes its great, sometimes not.

The only blonde i will use is l'oreal preference dream blonde which also comes with a pretreatment primer/conditioner for the ends of your hair so they dont get damaged in the process. my fav shade right now is called "Alluring Peony" which, of course, I call "alluring ponies"

Umm. I did it to go as Veronica Lodge for Halloween...was supposed to be temporary dye but guess what? Black doesn't wash out. I only have two photos from that night, but apparently my (Italian-Am) then-boyfriend quite liked it.

sunny, i want to use the dream blonde but i am afraid of putting it on my whole head to lighten up everything properly. because it's already been bleached (i lol dyed my hair black early this year and had to have that removed). what are your opinions on the matter, as a lady who seems to be an authority on blondes?

Do you guys have Blondissima in the states? That's what I always used when going from dark to blonde, then a honey blonde on top to even the bleached hair out. Never Feria though.. sorry you had to learn this the hard way, Jaq!

well i bleached my hair twice in the last year too with that l'oreal superblonde and i got some breakage from it. the dream blonde isnt increasing the breakage. in my long and sometimes tragic experience with blonding, its only the blue stuff that does the damage.

have you dyed your hair with anything with henna in it? that can be a real bitch to get out and it might be worth waiting to grow it out?

there is blondissima here. also if you opt for l'oreal superblonde it will get out the red but dont leave it on too long. also be aware that where it says its one step to color on the box its an out and out lie unless youre trying to pull off a Donatella Versace.

once the superblonde makes you white blonde, most blonde dyes will just wash out ie youll have white hair but i have found one that will (VERY suprisingly for me) hair a very nice shade of blonde:

I use the L'Oreal Superblonde for my streak but I only leave it in til it's brassy yellow, I don't wait long enough for it to be whited out. Esp not with re-doing the roots and overlapping slightly every couple of months.

if youve had the evil henna on your hair you go with the real bleach you get this littl eprogression: black/red -> brassy orange -> clown orange -> clown yellowy orange -> dayglo yellow -> paler yellow -> ahhh blonde

maybe paler brassy yellow -> OMG WHITE -> ahhhh blonde

haha! i have never put henna on my head so i think i am safe. maybe i should try superblonde? i'm just scared to throw more bleach on top of my whole head but why not.

just remember to grab a strand of your hair and tug on it every 5 or 10 min. you'll know if its still strong or if you need to get thst bleach out NOW.

i don't think the glaze did anything. my hair felt a bit coated after i washed it out, but there there doesn't seem to be any noticeable difference. and it stinks! it's got a really sweet, heavy, slightly floral fragrance.

i'm going to try it as a postconditioning rinse a few times a week, i guess, and see if that does anything.

oh what did you do before?

i did it as a "treatment." you apply it to dry hair, leave it on for 20 minutes, then shampoo it out.

after all of this blond talk i really want to bleach my hair! i'm having edie sedgwick fantasies. my friend in college would use manic panic's virgin snow, which is basically a toner - it takes out the yellow and makes your hair a really pretty, silvery white.

I got fed up with the straw-feeling damage from the feria and yesterday impulsively got about 4" chopped off:

it looks good! you know, i've used feria exactly once when it first came out and i could never do it again after what it did to me.

hmmm i've had only good experience with feria - i used to use a lot of their reds. but i've stopped using permanent colour the last few times and now just use a semi: it fades out better and seems better for my hair condition.

yeah the cut looks great, Jaq, though I don't think I know what it looked like before. It's liberating, chopping off all the fried hair, isn't it? I <3 my Elumen dye so much, my hair always feels so soft and isn't nearly as damaged as it used to be in my bleached blonde days!

I have too much gray for level 2 color, RR. I may go for pro color next time; am thinking about getting some interim darker semi color done next week maybe. Just having it short again is liberating too finefine - it was as long as it's been in 30 years (just to shoulders, w/ grown-out long layers). Is the Elumen a salon brand?

i'm feeling the need to cut great chunks of my hair off, too. hasn't been above my shoulders in a couple of years almost. right now it's just looking kinda manky and blah, and i think having it shorter would further enable my attempts to only wash alternate days.

Now that everyone and their mother has an angled bob I am particularly looking forward to getting a new haircut next week. BANGS!

hey schef, i was in walmart yesterday buying dream blonde shade "glistening magnolia" (ie fuckin light blonde) and I noticed a dream blonde lightener/red banisher in a blue box. maybe that would do the trick?

ooh interesting. quincie, i've done that cut before. it is fun! go for it! also, i have done angled bob on and off for 15 years and yeah, it is kind of annoying when it's suddenly popular and your cut feels not good anymore!

i am currently just below shoulders... i am at the make or break point of growing it out LONG or chopping again. for now, it is awkward, so i think i dye?

you might as well give it another couple of inches before you chop it. you've put up with growing it out until now, so don't give up when the goal is in sight!

i haven't dealt with my hair for a very long time, months. somehow the colour grew out really well, but this week it hit the point where roots are looking reallly dark and just a bit beyond rocknroll to lameland and everybody who's used to me with lighter/blonder hair is suddenly whoa look at how dark your hair *really* is!!

i'm just gonna go get it cut and get my hairdresser to do whatever she feels is right re: colour. might just go back to dark hair with some highlights

Comparisons made with my new haircut thus far: Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, Anne Hathaway in Get Smart, Kate Blanchett (sp?) in the most recent Indiana Jones. So far I am quite happy with these comparisons.

Mr. Que was a bit put off, but he claims it is just because it looks so different. He's all "well it is like if I dyed my blue." Um, no it's nothing like that, actually.

I am trying something new today.. wearing my bangs straight-across rather than parted on the side as I usually do. I have a pretty raging cowlick that prevents me from trying but this morning it just sort of clicked and my bangs allowed me to spread them across my forehead. I wish I had my camera so I could fish for opinions!
