quite like this coat, in spite or because of its ron atkinson in east berlin vibe:

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 August 2016 14:54 (nine years ago)

those looks are cool as shit although I could never rock any of them. Also I predicted recently that the flattop was going to come in style.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:02 (nine years ago)

yeah i prob couldn't rock them in full either, i think the coat would be fine tho.

thought this was p cool too: http://webshop.hankjobenhavn.com/eu/apparel/3357-pack-jacket-grey.html

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:05 (nine years ago)

i like the coat. the rest of that stuff not so much. i-went-to-berghain hangover.

bagging area (map), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:08 (nine years ago)

true to form I raised my eyebrow at the sunglasses

mh, Friday, 19 August 2016 15:20 (nine years ago)

tbf most of that stuff would be totally lost on u.s. places that aren't new york or l.a. it seems very euro-centric?

bagging area (map), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:23 (nine years ago)

lost as in people wouldn't recognize it as a particular stripe of fashion?

mh, Friday, 19 August 2016 15:25 (nine years ago)

feel that's prob true for many things

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:26 (nine years ago)

as someone who lives outside of a fashion capital, yeah

mh, Friday, 19 August 2016 15:27 (nine years ago)

just that it wouldn't really be appreciated. *talks about lovingly repurposed rave breaks to EDM fan*. but yes point taken. if it appeals and you have the chutzpah. i couldn't do it.

bagging area (map), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:28 (nine years ago)

Even in NYC I think "I-went-to-berghain hangover" would be lost on a lot of people, even relatively style-conscious people. I think there's a more generic "berlin is cool" sentiment.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:29 (nine years ago)

"i went to berghain hangover" p much sums up my adult to middle-aged life.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:30 (nine years ago)

elmo mentioned something like this on twitter but it's one of those situations where you really come into a look or adopt something that's fashion-forward and have mixed feelings when it becomes _a thing_ some time later

mh, Friday, 19 August 2016 15:31 (nine years ago)

i like the diagonal colorblock sweater.

bagging area (map), Friday, 19 August 2016 15:34 (nine years ago)

referee turtleneck not so much

Feel like I'm ready for the shirt buttoned to the top look to be done already, although I doubt it's run its course

The Ron Atkinson look makes me feel like people who pull of the casual look: yes but you're dressed like a racist.

nobody pulls off the casual look in this sense.

not sure that coat is entirely ron, or even marginally.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Saturday, 20 August 2016 00:18 (nine years ago)

maybe ron as bankrupt used car dealer, approximating shearling with repurposed trabant carpet interior

the dark green version with the faux fur drama is much more pure unsubverted ron, shadily enriched soviet border captain

fun piece. would like to see it with the collar up

I feel like I need new "going out" clothes. Not like going to a club, but just going for dinner or a drink, like something I could get away with in a "nice" NYC place but casual looking. Need suggestions. Would like to avoid the Trunk Club vibe discussed above but also don't want to try to pretend I am 23.

are kickstarter pledges somehow guaranteed against the the person who started it not just taking the piss?

pinkhushpuppies (rip van wanko), Thursday, 1 September 2016 22:03 (nine years ago)

fwiw I am 5'9" dark brown hair, brown eyes, jewy looking, and not skinny (basically have a "dadbod," i.e. I have workout muscles and a little fat over them).

accuse me of being mad basic if you will but just wear all black and good shoes or trainers and concentrate on stuff that fits you well. or like black/white/grey, any combo. a blazer or rollneck if you like that kind of thing.

i mean within all of this there are probably perils, feel free everyone else to slate me, but even black sweatshirt, black jeans and basic white trainers or just a pair of boots is fairly safe and good and faintly formal.

could factor in a white shirt or something if you like.

don't wear a black blazer i guess, and i forgot navy, but that's my two cents.

seldom covet a new item so. sad and pretty just like ya boy. would also probably look quite nice on the wall should it turn out intrinsically grotesque just like ya boy

Yeah, I kind of know this and feels like it's probably the answer. I'm really just due for some new "nice" basics, incl a new decent pair of casual shoes.

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Friday, 2 September 2016 20:55 (nine years ago)

Now just need to decide where to get said nice basics, I guess.

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Friday, 2 September 2016 20:56 (nine years ago)

Honestly my post was mostly just prompted by aging panic and feeling out of place and dressed wrong when I go places like Bushwick now.

the last famous person you were surprised to discover was actually (man alive), Friday, 2 September 2016 21:14 (nine years ago)

I always say it here but I love COS. For the price and the fact it's a fairly prevalent chain, the clothes look great and fashionable. If I'm spending more I find Our Legacy is a label I always end up buying, their basic shirts and sweats last ages, though I think they may have hiked their prices a bit this season. Quite a few places in NYC sell their clothes.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Saturday, 3 September 2016 07:22 (nine years ago)

APC as well I guess, if you like your basics very basic.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Saturday, 3 September 2016 07:22 (nine years ago)

Yeah APC is a brand I have yet to purchase. Prices always just seem a tad high. Anyway I just ordered a simple grey shirt and a simple black sweater from the SA Labor Day sale - extra 20% off the Alan branded stuff. For shoes I just need to make a trip to Soula. Never works out for me when I order shoes online.

i really like apc stuff although it is basic in multiple senses. the fit really works for me and i appreciate the quality. i enjoy cos stuff but its both a little more disposable and significantly worse cut than stuff like apc or our legacy. most of that 'i was a tv architect' stuff is what i default to now that im old and boring, not a little bit to my chagrin. i think ive just sort of aged out of that russian street youths of instagram look exemplified by the clothes on shelter-web.jp although ive (subconciously?) adopted some of oversized/asymetrical stuff into my otherwise prim wardrobe.
