ils thread for general menswear and men's clothing ish

i actually like their normal shoes fairly well for formal occasions. they had a really good simple boot too, but they changed the grain a bit and it's a heavier more rigid leather, makes wearing them feel like a chore.

i would say at least these things are more... honest... in their shitness compared to things like grenson brogues with contrast midsoles and red laces or whatever which rly are super aggravating and feel somehow more pernicious than simple bad taste

yeah i actually agree, can't wait for the loud contrast laces thing to wither up and die.

the sneaker/dress shoe hybrid thing has been an ongoing turd for decades. those steve madden boxy men's not-sneakers were big when I got into cubicle world fifteen years ago

I think Grenson's regular dress shoes are quite nice -- I've been a bit of a stan of them since before they seem to have made this huge marketing push, although I wonder if the quality has suffered as a result.

They are so "I want people to think I'm a tech entrepreneur" - and yeah, you know 100 per cent the architect glasses would be part of the look, and probably a horrible blazer. The weird thing is people who dress that way probably get called "dapper" and it just fuels them.

It would drive a man to wear more sweats and t-shirts.

my workplace is almost more casual than business casual these days and I really wear plain v-necks, decent jeans, and chukkas or sneakers 3/4 of the time

btw I am a savage

i'm wearing flip flops and basketball shorts in manhattan today

my excuse is laundry is out before vacation but i'm worried i'm going to get typhoid or something

my office started unofficially allowing jeans recently, which has led to tolerance for sneakers and untucked shirts and now everyone looks like hell.

My office is casual-allowed but I stick to a conservativish business casual out of habit and just kind of liking the idea of having "work clothes" that are differentiated. Nothing even remotely hip among the casual dressers though. The day I interviewed, one of the guys who interviewed me was wearing khakis and a fleece vest with the company logo over a long-sleeve tee. lol.

BTW another thing I'd be really fine to see going away soon is the "fun print" dress-casual shirt, like all the ones with pin dots or patterns made of tiny icons.

actually funny you say that because I specifically noticed a lot of it on my subway ride from Queens today, and when I see a trend breaking out on my subway ride from Queens it's usually a good sign that it's on its last legs

chambray is still a nice fabric imo but yea i'm surprised to see it on the racks still after what like 7 years

uh this is exactly what i wear most days (i keep a thin casual plaid shirt around just in case)

i would love to wear flip flops but they always blast the air con in here

i have contemplated wearing my plain rvca shorts (material lends itself to a little more formality) but i don't want to be that guy

p annoyed that Steven Alan did away with the filter by size function on its site. Makes shopping their sales p much impossible.

prada sneakers in the late 90s were imo the advance scouting party for the tech entrepreneur dress sneaker trend described here. they were terrible and dated the moment they came out. upward mobility for the wired set.

What are some decent, reliable sources of plain, solid-colored t-shirts?

I have been buying shirts from Hanes.com but they are kind of garbage: too thick and a bulky cut. I have a couple of print tees that are more comfortable and flattering, but their shirts are sourced from companies that only seem to sell in quantities to shirt makers.

uniqlo makes a nice tee

calvin klein ones pretty good too imo

Have to say I really like the Gustin solid color tees.

Gap sells a "lived in" tee very similar to that j crew, but priced @ $25, and I just wait for the very frequent 40% off sales and pick 'em up for $15. Fit and feel great.

yea the jcrew broken in one is usually only $25, you can find a sale for them at $17 or so

the jcrew garment dyed one is nice but $45 for a tshirt is too much for me

i'm about to buy like every single colour of the one i posted

not generally a fan of the jcrew style but i like these garment dyed tshirts

i have a pair of their macalister desert boots and they're pretty nice too

i sometimes buy from the gap too, but a lot of the times the fit is way off for me

though i have in my mind like "reasonable price" expectations for particular articles of clothing and i think they have not changed since i was a kid and i should propably update them

gap fit for hoodies and tshirts has always been off for me. button-downs and oxfords okay though, though i could ALWAYS go for shorter sleeve lengths. that's the case for me anywhere though

i honestly just go for the fit. if gap tshirts fit better and i found one i liked i would nab a bunch of them

Only just recently realized Century 21 sells online now. They're sort of a mixed bag but they can be great for certain kinds of thing, like dress shirts. Tempted to buy a couple of Dunhill shirts for $70 each.

that would do better on styleforum imo, but a bit more work to sell as you're expected to provide detailed measurements and handle paypal etc. by hand
