aha, duh i don't know why i didn't check the actual speedo store

it looks like the 'valmilton aquashort' is the designated fun speedo. i have ordered one in blue with turquoise trim.

Spottie, Friday, 5 August 2016 17:32 (nine years ago)

laraaji p. henson (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 11 August 2016 13:26 (nine years ago)

I got a couple new madras (not too loud) shirts with roll tabs
roll tabs are the shit

El Tomboto, Thursday, 11 August 2016 13:45 (nine years ago)

xp dispute that. been haunted by a vision sat across me on a train earlier this week of this big pasty white graphic designer lookin brit seaside lobster eczema bloke who had unfortunately mistaken himself for ian connor in yeezy s3. i'm talkin: blonde timotei hair in miserly pinched mini topknot, mid-chunky tortoiseshell frames, inside-out 'deconstructed' neutral khaki green sweatshirt, over simultaneously tight and saggy stonewash jeans with huge fake knee slashes revealing pallid cadaverous skin, stuffed into beige faux-suede moon boots (on a warm day), with a beige faux suede backpack. (slightly mistmatched beige tones - perhaps he thought this sprezzatura idk). iphone in hand hilariously typical despite everyone next to him also having one. initially my inner internet chimp wanted to covertly snap a pic to like totally roast him for bricking the fit etc but then the loneliness of all our lives got to me. hope he's okay anyway poor bastard

r|t|c, Thursday, 11 August 2016 13:56 (nine years ago)

he didnt even seem misguidedly confident in it is the thing, the opposite in fact, just an acrid tang of hypersensitive panic in the air

r|t|c, Thursday, 11 August 2016 14:00 (nine years ago)

if these were on deep discount do any actually look decent, imo cole haan is kind of hot garbage to my tastes but I bet they're very comfortable

mh, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 01:20 (nine years ago)

ugh those are horrible

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 01:38 (nine years ago)

lol yeah

mh, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 01:53 (nine years ago)

it's like what a "hip" upper-middle manager would wear along with a really springy hair style, slightly oversized square architect-aspirational glasses, and jeans that are from an off-center trad fashion house would wear to accessorize

I can't completely decry that look because it's recognizable enough to get nods in ppl aspiring to that rank but I can't reconcile it either

mh, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 01:56 (nine years ago)

btw to tag on to my normy sneak thoughts upthread the adidas zx sneakers are kind of like nike roshe sneakers but much more useful imo

mh, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 01:57 (nine years ago)

call me crazy but i don't think sneakers and dress shoes needed to fuck and have a baby

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 02:01 (nine years ago)

Cole Haan has been pushing those for several yeas and I don't recall ever seeing anyone wear them.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 03:04 (nine years ago)

They are so "I want people to think I'm a tech entrepreneur" - and yeah, you know 100 per cent the architect glasses would be part of the look, and probably a horrible blazer. The weird thing is people who dress that way probably get called "dapper" and it just fuels them.

It would drive a man to wear more sweats and t-shirts.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 07:03 (nine years ago)

Like I basically see so many bad suit jacket looks or people stuck copying Mad Men in the most fearful way that I have hardly even worn a non-denim shirt in about a year, apart from now and again a white Oxford.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 07:05 (nine years ago)

Why did you choose this? Cole Haan Store

it jumps off the page yet smart

i would say at least these things are more... honest... in their shitness compared to things like grenson brogues with contrast midsoles and red laces or whatever which rly are super aggravating and feel somehow more pernicious than simple bad taste

r|t|c, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 09:24 (nine years ago)

yeah i hate the hybrid grenson stuff. they did a collab with new balance a year or two ago and it was dire.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 09:29 (nine years ago)

it's not even just the gimmick hybrids, like if u walk down jermyn street or something u will have a fairly dispiriting job seeing a normal shoe in the window of these hundred year old shops

haha not that he would ever be caught dead in such a thing but that reminds me i saw the guy from the permanent style blog on his travels in that area recently. one of my favourite hate-reads!!

r|t|c, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 09:54 (nine years ago)

tho' I don't like their shoes, Grenson have been quite canny - they've branded and designed to have strong allure for British men buying a first expensive shoe. Exploiting the 'a bit mod' default aesthetics of the species.

woof, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 10:34 (nine years ago)

i actually like their normal shoes fairly well for formal occasions. they had a really good simple boot too, but they changed the grain a bit and it's a heavier more rigid leather, makes wearing them feel like a chore.

yeah i actually agree, can't wait for the loud contrast laces thing to wither up and die.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 13:38 (nine years ago)

the sneaker/dress shoe hybrid thing has been an ongoing turd for decades. those steve madden boxy men's not-sneakers were big when I got into cubicle world fifteen years ago

mh, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 14:47 (nine years ago)

I think Grenson's regular dress shoes are quite nice -- I've been a bit of a stan of them since before they seem to have made this huge marketing push, although I wonder if the quality has suffered as a result.

I think of this as the "Trunk Club look"

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Wednesday, 17 August 2016 14:52 (nine years ago)

my workplace is almost more casual than business casual these days and I really wear plain v-necks, decent jeans, and chukkas or sneakers 3/4 of the time

btw I am a savage

mh, Wednesday, 17 August 2016 14:54 (nine years ago)

my office started unofficially allowing jeans recently, which has led to tolerance for sneakers and untucked shirts and now everyone looks like hell.
