The style doesn't suit me to begin with and the quality is usually poor. Plus it's a store I just viscerally hate being inside.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:14 (ten years ago)

most of their bright colored shit is just totally useless to me, i dont care if you can find the same shirt in 12 colors if 11/12 of those colors are butt ass ugly

marcos, Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:16 (ten years ago)

what i do like it for is like loungewear or boxer shorts.

think it's kinda had its time in a way.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:18 (ten years ago)

there was a time when it seemed like they had hit on some impossible magic formula for making good clothes absurdly cheap, but now it just seems like you get what you pay for

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:18 (ten years ago)

love the 'qlo but dont have one in my city so i'm not up on what's new

i love the supima underwear... bought like 10 of those last time i went and wear em every day i can

i get a lot of play out of cashmere and merino crew neck sweaters

de l'asshole (flopson), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:21 (ten years ago)

Some of the tees they sell are really embarrassing, e.g. Captain America Civil War:

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:23 (ten years ago)

yeah graphics is really not what they should be doing

in other news...

really into rolling my sleeves to just below elbow length lately

enjoying the cool weather we've had the past couple weeks cause i still can't get a handle on summer style

de l'asshole (flopson), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:24 (ten years ago)

i mean those shirts are for kids tho

de l'asshole (flopson), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:24 (ten years ago)

I know it shouldn't matter whether the store where I buy my $4.90 cashmere sweater also sells kidult graphic tees for bad fascist superhero movies, but I can't get past it.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:29 (ten years ago)

I buy socks, underwear, polo shirts, oxford shirts, and occasional pants at uniqlo

chinavision!, Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:33 (ten years ago)

medical margarita (rip van wanko), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:38 (ten years ago)

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:38 (ten years ago)

i need new shorts, i have these super old patagonia heavy canvas shorts that are like retro climbing wear and they are okay but i need something a little more modern

marcos, Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:41 (ten years ago)

i heard Captain America was good

de l'asshole (flopson), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:42 (ten years ago)

i struggle with shorts every year, checking myself out like :-/ not sure about those shorts though

de l'asshole (flopson), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:44 (ten years ago)

thinking a 7" inseam is good? i don't think i look good in longer shorts

marcos, Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:45 (ten years ago)

lol I just finally unsubscribed from this stupid Apolis email list I got on somehow because they sent me a "flash sale" notice for a jarred candle. $22, down from $50! Only 46 available!

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 15:45 (ten years ago)

oh no their tshirts with writing on are bad!!!

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:05 (ten years ago)

but yes their oxford shirts are definitely a little less well made than they used to be (and they no longer make non-slim fit oxford)

their linen/cotton blend short sleeve shirts are good. their 100% linen long sleeve shirts are less good (look very tatty after like two wears, and not in a relaxed linen way), but tbf they are extremely cheap.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:07 (ten years ago)

you know it's like some retailers don't take collaboration tshirts with cartoon logos and writing on seriously, and that's just really sad

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Thursday, 9 June 2016 16:09 (ten years ago)

thank you all for uniqlodown

i was thinking of stopping by for supima undies, socks, polos, linen shirts and oxfords maybe so i appreciate that detail caek. i'm not really sure where to go for cheapish oxfords or whether i even should, i mean is there anywhere in e.g. central europe where you can get a durable oxford for not much more than chainstore prices? really the price-wear ratio works in my favour if i'm only gonna wear these over one summer. would rather have something last more than 2 or 3x tho.

i'm actually going to try peep the uniqlo in kl, p sure their slim fit is gonna be more like taut fit so thinking regular may be the way to go if i can be bothered w their shirts. i'm kind of not into slim fit anyway since i've put on some extra weight, also just the style can be a bit figure hugging in a dancing w the stars kind of way, like it will look flattering if you suck in your gut in the dressing room and maybe to a distant observer but in general a bad idea unless you're stick-thin or 12.

gass mccoombes (qiqing), Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:41 (ten years ago)

the oxfords are still good shirts for the money. they're just not what they used to be imo.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Thursday, 9 June 2016 21:59 (ten years ago)

Are their current "premium linen" shirts any good? I had really bad luck with the last linen shirts I bought there but they were not "premium"

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 22:00 (ten years ago)

i think the 'premium linen' ones are the l/s 100% linen ones i mentioned. they are fine for the money.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Thursday, 9 June 2016 22:04 (ten years ago)

Bought a pair of linen shirts from them last week, but only worn them once each… they were perfectly fine for the money, filled a hole in my wardrobe. Sleeves too long (often a uniqlo problem for me), but I'll wear them rolled so w/e. Can't say more without more wear.

woof, Thursday, 9 June 2016 22:12 (ten years ago)

Yeah I had shortsleeve linen shirts and they looked fine at first but terrible after a few washes/wears.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Thursday, 9 June 2016 22:15 (ten years ago)

the s/s linen shirts are now (and i think have always been) a linen/cotton blend. the 100% linen l/s shirts are what they call "premium", but they're l/s only.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Thursday, 9 June 2016 22:29 (ten years ago)

love the uniqlo sweatshirts, have quite a few socks also

ogmor, Thursday, 9 June 2016 23:09 (ten years ago)

uniqlo

search: underwear (briefs, trunks, boxer briefs), socks, SPRZ NY graphic t's, polos, slacks, sweaters,
destroy: most of their jeans now that they have 1-2% spandex and the back pocket blows out in less than a year

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 10 June 2016 03:18 (ten years ago)

uniqlo socks and undies are the fn best tho

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 10 June 2016 03:18 (ten years ago)

Destroy having to get the pants hemmed.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 11 June 2016 16:41 (ten years ago)

just pressed real sharp

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Saturday, 11 June 2016 17:07 (ten years ago)

yeah that's just a crease. I think I remember hearing that there's a way to get a perma-crease on pants.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Sunday, 12 June 2016 04:33 (ten years ago)

Was in bushwick the other night and felt old and out of touch. A few things I noticed (1) "vintage" stuff doesn't seem to have the appeal it used to (2) solid colors, often black/white/grey, but often in odd shapes (e.g. t-shirts that have a slightly unusual profile). (3) Loose tops but tight pants (already sort of noticed this) (4) simple clothing but expensive haircuts (5) "normcore" does seem like it had some impact, e.g. several pairs of nike frees spotted. That's my report from the field, now back to my old dude life.

What you're looking for here is Sta Prest trousers.

If authoritarianism is Romania's ironing board, then (in orbit), Monday, 13 June 2016 15:28 (ten years ago)

Or I mean some variation of. There are a lot of arguments about vintage vs new vs idk I don't go that far down the rabbit hole. Apparently the Brooks Bros Advantage Chinos are a good substitute and actually stay creased looking? Which I believe bc I know someone with a no-iron BB women's shirt and DAMN if that thing doesn't look PERFECT after being machine washed and dried--like it was brand new and starched.

If authoritarianism is Romania's ironing board, then (in orbit), Monday, 13 June 2016 15:37 (ten years ago)

BB non-iron men's dress shirts are my go-to for any conservative work situation. They look amazing out of the machine and last a lot of wears.

i can confirm, no pressing needed, not exactly hip though.

riverine (map), Monday, 13 June 2016 21:35 (ten years ago)

white-tee dude reminds me that Costco has some I think new Kirkland brand white tees that are surprisingly high quality and non-huge, in fact the M was a little snug on me although I normally wear M.

socka flocka-jones (man alive), Friday, 24 June 2016 21:49 (ten years ago)

oh kirkland signature t-shirts in medium are the shiiiiiiiitttt

El Tomboto, Saturday, 25 June 2016 00:53 (ten years ago)

I've been wearing them for years, back as far as when they had tags, and just got a dozen new ones to replace some that were finally wearing out and they're even better than the better ones from before

El Tomboto, Saturday, 25 June 2016 00:54 (ten years ago)

I love Chubbies shorts

two weeks pass...

If anyone is looking for dress shoes, the Bonobos website has a pretty good deal on a few Grenson models right now -- under $200 with the extra 40% off:

The kid broke my Ray Ban new wayfarers. Would maybe like to try a different brand -- any suggestions? Preferably in same price range or lower.
