there are a lot of examples of people doing it really badly but that's basically true of everything in style

rules
1. if the shirt tail is even close to peeking out under the back of the jacket, NO
2. if the shirt is one of those formaldehyde-soaked "wrinkle-free" pieces of shit, NO and also throw the shirt away, who bought that for you
3. probably (definitely) best if the shirt has a pinpoint collar
4. unless it's a polo, obv

not really sure why pinpoint collar would be the collar of choice for untucked shirts with blazers. Nor do I agree with the conventional wisdom on wrinkle-free shirts -- they vary widely in quality and I have some that look great. That said, don't wear untucked button down shirts with jackets.

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 17:01 (ten years ago)

you'll never believe my size was on sale

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 29 April 2016 17:01 (ten years ago)

i don't think jeans + untucked buttown down + jacket is a bad look necessarily. i kind of think of it as the look of people who are like 'can't be arsed with business attire' giving the bare minimum of compliance (it's what my frumpy academic dad wears to funerals), and will totally sail under everyone's radar.

de l'asshole (flopson), Friday, 29 April 2016 17:02 (ten years ago)

i request yr dad to plz tuck in his shirt at my funeral thank u

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 17:06 (ten years ago)

i think it's one of those looks for guys who love to brashly say they don't care about fashion

map, Friday, 29 April 2016 17:16 (ten years ago)

at my grandpas funeral my cousin and his boyfriend who are major nerds tried to look nice but forgot to wear belts lmao

its such a guy thing to search for the rules of fashion when really whats important is to learn how to feel

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 17:23 (ten years ago)

ya exactly. maybe also managers of restaurants?

de l'asshole (flopson), Friday, 29 April 2016 17:34 (ten years ago)

image searches for "massimo dutti blazer" "zara man blazer" etc. reveal a very small population of untucked buttondowns in street style / lookbook shots
not on restaurant managers so much as... humanities students, I think

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 29 April 2016 17:52 (ten years ago)

oh wait here we go my dudes

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 29 April 2016 17:54 (ten years ago)

blazer wearing is usually just a concession to aging no, like maybe if i put this over my normal clothes everything will be ok

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 17:55 (ten years ago)

feel like ppl cld get more milage out of not just wearing jeans everyday, there are all sorts of great pants out there folks!

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 17:58 (ten years ago)

it's hurting btw

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Saturday, 30 April 2016 02:15 (ten years ago)

oh shit we got a boot cut jeans sighting

call all destroyer, Saturday, 30 April 2016 02:17 (ten years ago)

i'd wear slimmer-fitting pants with that shirt/jacket combo -- or get a jacket that's broader in the shoulders, that outfit looks awkward

sarahell, Saturday, 30 April 2016 02:19 (ten years ago)

yeah, agreed. The jacket and shirt look fine, but the pants don't work. I'd do diff shoes too -- the big white chuck toes really stick out with an otherwise dark outfit and look a little too casual or kid-like.

Please note my right hand displaying the universal symbol of love

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Saturday, 30 April 2016 02:22 (ten years ago)

btw you have some long-ass legs, unless that's just the iphone lens distortion

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Saturday, 30 April 2016 02:27 (ten years ago)

you could actually get away with a longer shirt/jacket because of that

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Saturday, 30 April 2016 02:27 (ten years ago)

I fully admit that pair are my loosest jeans outside of weekend housework shit kickers. The rigid wash is basically shrink-to-fit and I love the color (in better light) but they are perhaps excessively cozy

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Saturday, 30 April 2016 03:00 (ten years ago)

don't know anyone who tucks non dress shirt with blazer except mormons maybe
west coast vs east perhaps?

salthigh, Saturday, 30 April 2016 03:41 (ten years ago)

I don't think blazer wearers on the west coast are attempting fashion, they're just being people who put on blazers that day

chinavision!, Saturday, 30 April 2016 15:32 (ten years ago)

blazer wearing has become extremely default for a certain type of guy

lag∞n, Saturday, 30 April 2016 15:34 (ten years ago)

actually yeah it's unfair for me to apply that just to the west coast. that's ex-pat smugness on my part.

chinavision!, Saturday, 30 April 2016 15:37 (ten years ago)

plus I'm not really fashionably tbh, but I think that a blazer or sport coat + untucked shirt is a bad look.

chinavision!, Saturday, 30 April 2016 15:38 (ten years ago)

I'm not fashionably to be honest

chinavision!, Saturday, 30 April 2016 15:38 (ten years ago)
