marcos, Friday, 29 April 2016 13:56 (ten years ago)

I got new shoes yesterday http://www.vans.com/shop/ProductDisplay?storeId=10153&productId=2975830&langId=-1&catalogId=10703

marcos, Friday, 29 April 2016 13:57 (ten years ago)

if you must wear a sport coat with jeans and your blazers are all at the cleaners then at least wear a shirt that looks good untucked and ditch the tie so it is less immediately obvious you are wearing a suit jacket and jeans? Except the shoulder pads / structure are such a dead giveaway. I wonder what happened to the pants that came with the jacket.

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 29 April 2016 14:13 (ten years ago)

I mean I wear blazers with jeans all the time, never the one that's actually a suit jacket though
the tie makes it really abysmal

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 29 April 2016 14:14 (ten years ago)

btw this is ezra signature look ive seen him do it on tv

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 14:18 (ten years ago)

I don't really think it looks that good even on the guy in the video. It's possible to make it look good, but the reality is that most dudes are not going to make sure everything is perfectly tailored and proportioned, so better to just avoid.

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 14:56 (ten years ago)

if i was just doing it to meet some work decorum baseline i wld def leave it untucked tho lol

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:01 (ten years ago)

i wld do savage things if i worked in a place where i had to

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:02 (ten years ago)

the guy in the video looks terrible lol

call all destroyer, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:06 (ten years ago)

wearing a sport coat with an untucked shirt makes you look like you had to take the loaner at a jacket-required restaurant

call all destroyer, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:07 (ten years ago)

otm

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:09 (ten years ago)

fwiw I think tucked in polo with slacks can look fine, but it's a strictly office thing and definitely a little conservative

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:10 (ten years ago)

and not with jeans

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:10 (ten years ago)

tucked in polo can be insanely stylish but u have to be stylish to do it

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:15 (ten years ago)

tucking in gets a bad rap in general. waists are cool, belts are cool, proportions are cool.

http://www.tvovermind.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/tv-the-americans-generics-and-pilot15.jpg

started watching the americans last night and thought his tucked in polo was p dapper, crappy photo aside. prob wouldn't do it myself but i never wear polo shirts anyway.

i assume you guys wear untucked shirts when not wearing a blazer/sportscoat, right? again, i seldom wear formal jackets these days apart from formal occasions, but quite often wear oxfords untucked with jeans or whatever.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:27 (ten years ago)

i generally tuck in button down shirts which i hardly ever wear unless its something super casual like a flannel or w/e, do not tuck in a polo unless its w a jacket but am willing to give it a try tbh

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:29 (ten years ago)

I tend to favour button down generally, even for quite casual shirts.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:33 (ten years ago)

i wear button-down shirts a lot both for work and casually and tuck in more often than not. most of my shirts are too long to wear untucked though for the summer i have some casual button down shirts that are shorter and untucked is def preferable when it's hot it.

but in other seasons jeans/chinos plus tucked-in button down is basically my look.

call all destroyer, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:34 (ten years ago)

most of my shirts are too long to wear untucked

yea that's the problem, i'm short too so it is hard to find a shirt that looks good untucked, i definitely have a few but it is hard to find them

marcos, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:35 (ten years ago)

i actually just got a nice red/white/blue gingham from proper cloth and i hoped i had ordered it short enough to be wearable untucked but it's actually still a little too long.

call all destroyer, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:35 (ten years ago)

xp that guy kind of looks like me and that's p much how I wear a tucked polo -- close-fitting but not too tight, contrasting slacks or chinos.

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:37 (ten years ago)

and never shiny/smooth/golf polos

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:37 (ten years ago)

bonobos polos are actually really good for that look

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:39 (ten years ago)

hey anyone own a pair of the tapered 501s? http://www.levi.com/US/en_US/mens-jeans/p/181730034 i am thinking about getting a pair.

marcos, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:43 (ten years ago)

nevermind they don't have my size

marcos, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:44 (ten years ago)

Something about the profile of those bothers me in the pics, but it might just be on account of the tucked in tee.

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Friday, 29 April 2016 15:51 (ten years ago)

hmm did not know those existed this is relevant to my interests

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 15:53 (ten years ago)

just got some great double discounts at levis dot com folks

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 16:06 (ten years ago)

yeah id wear a pair of tapered 501s for sure. basically any high-end/expensive jeans i buy wear out in less than 2 years so im going to go more in a 501s direction in future

Is Jack Nicholson really qualify as "Partyman"? (jim in glasgow), Friday, 29 April 2016 16:07 (ten years ago)

also i p much always tuck in button down shirts

Is Jack Nicholson really qualify as "Partyman"? (jim in glasgow), Friday, 29 April 2016 16:07 (ten years ago)

i like those tapered 501s. tried on a bunch of levis at a jeans depot in my neighborhood the other day and ended up buying a pair of blk 522s, wasn't perfectly satisfied but i needed dark jeans. may get a 501 tapes in dark blue

de l'asshole (flopson), Friday, 29 April 2016 16:15 (ten years ago)

there are a lot of examples of people doing it really badly but that's basically true of everything in style

rules
1. if the shirt tail is even close to peeking out under the back of the jacket, NO
2. if the shirt is one of those formaldehyde-soaked "wrinkle-free" pieces of shit, NO and also throw the shirt away, who bought that for you
3. probably (definitely) best if the shirt has a pinpoint collar
4. unless it's a polo, obv

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 29 April 2016 16:40 (ten years ago)

not really sure why pinpoint collar would be the collar of choice for untucked shirts with blazers. Nor do I agree with the conventional wisdom on wrinkle-free shirts -- they vary widely in quality and I have some that look great. That said, don't wear untucked button down shirts with jackets.

JWoww Gilberto (man alive), Friday, 29 April 2016 16:50 (ten years ago)

obviously never, ever do it if you have a gut
I forget this part because I don't

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 29 April 2016 16:54 (ten years ago)

there are no rules

lag∞n, Friday, 29 April 2016 16:55 (ten years ago)
