human life won't become a cat (man alive), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:36 (ten years ago)

stevie be sure to check jcrew factory as well as regular jcrew

p.s. are you sure you need a tie at a university?

๐” ๐”ž๐”ข๐”จ (caek), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:41 (ten years ago)

the cheap ties are at tie bar btw

๐” ๐”ž๐”ข๐”จ (caek), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:41 (ten years ago)

i mean i don't need one but it'd be cute to acquire a few choice ones i think

we have a c21 in philly as well as a nord rack! i should hit those first prob

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:43 (ten years ago)

oh shit tie bar is rad

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:45 (ten years ago)

Yeah nord rack is a good bet if you want something outside of standard basics.

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:45 (ten years ago)

ties are fun for sure! but i would skip them for now if that budget is firm, and until you feel the vibez at your new place

๐” ๐”ž๐”ข๐”จ (caek), Thursday, 7 April 2016 22:45 (ten years ago)

nord rack, zara, H&M

honestly though and I know it's laaaaaaame but I get pretty decent stuff from landsend.com on clearance

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 8 April 2016 00:49 (ten years ago)

also my work BFF totally work double monk strap shoes today. he's definitely in the "tech product guy" character class though

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 8 April 2016 00:51 (ten years ago)

I was actually gonna recommend lands end sales for basics, like if you just want good cheap chinos in a variety of colors -- like a lot of retailers that used to be boxy-only, they have several fits now I think and you can get pretty slim ones if that's to your liking.

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Friday, 8 April 2016 01:10 (ten years ago)

lands end slim work well for me which is to say they're not that slim

call all destroyer, Friday, 8 April 2016 01:18 (ten years ago)

yeah I think they have a slim and a slimmer "tailored"? I have a pair of each, and the tailored is definitely snug on my slightly beefy legs, but not to the point of making it look like I'm wearing tights or anything.

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Friday, 8 April 2016 01:30 (ten years ago)

easy enough to order a few things from them and send back whatever isn't quite the right fit. they're scarily consistent so once you've dialed in your sizes you're set.

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 8 April 2016 01:58 (ten years ago)

i have...not found that to be the case but glad you have

call all destroyer, Friday, 8 April 2016 02:00 (ten years ago)

really? although I mostly use them for shirts and almost never buy pants from there

bothan zulu (El Tomboto), Friday, 8 April 2016 02:20 (ten years ago)

ah ok i am the opposite, i have only bought pants and have bought a few styles in multiple colors only to find that the gray chinos are a lot snugger than the navy chinos and whatnot.

call all destroyer, Friday, 8 April 2016 02:25 (ten years ago)

Again I'd recommend Cos. Their stuff is just sleeker. Though personally I hate the tiny collars on their shirts, but the trousers and jackets are nice.

I also like Topman if you get the premium stuff (which is still fairly cheap)

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 8 April 2016 06:52 (ten years ago)

holy shit I just tallied all the stuff I got yday, 2 pants 3 ties and 9 shirts (most of them v fun) for like $220?? wowza

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 9 April 2016 13:23 (ten years ago)

nice work!

call all destroyer, Saturday, 9 April 2016 14:31 (ten years ago)

yea that is a lot of clothes for $220

marcos, Saturday, 9 April 2016 14:37 (ten years ago)

Man I was just browsing Frank & Oak and I'm really annoyed at how most of their shirts have tiny collars -- those are fine for some but they don't work with all face/body shapes imo.

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Monday, 11 April 2016 01:53 (ten years ago)

i'm not really sure what frank and oak offers other than the ability for ppl to say they're not shopping at j crew?

call all destroyer, Monday, 11 April 2016 02:36 (ten years ago)

IDK, they have some good patterns but def not rocking a tiny collar

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Monday, 11 April 2016 02:40 (ten years ago)

btw any suggestions on where to get good swim trunks for not too much? I think it's time to retire the same old wal-mart pair I've been using for years.

human life won't become a cat (man alive), Monday, 11 April 2016 02:41 (ten years ago)

i have no idea what too much to you is but i have katin trunks and i like them a lot.

call all destroyer, Monday, 11 April 2016 02:50 (ten years ago)

thx for the rec, saw some I liked on swell on sale for $35 (after the "extra 30% off") and pulled the trigger:

http://www.swell.com/KATIN-CORD-TRUNK

this is the kind of thing I like in swim trunks -- a little subdued, not overly surfy looking

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Monday, 11 April 2016 13:22 (ten years ago)

anybody know of a good place for ordering pleated men's pants that don't look terrible? I have a pair of J crew cotton single pleated pants, with turn ups, in a dark navy that I like, but they don't make it any more. I'm tempted to buy this: https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/WallaceBarnes/PRDOVR~E7956/E7956.jsp

but I don't really like chambray for pants... it's just the only pleated option they have right now.

or like, I would like this if these were long enough to reach my shoes! http://www.cosstores.com/us/Men/Trousers/Relaxed_turn-up_trousers/46905-19904809.1#c-15133331

chinavision!, Monday, 11 April 2016 14:08 (ten years ago)

basically looking for somewhat high waisted, pleated, decently fitted/tapered navy pants (with turn ups if possible), either in cotton or a lightweight wool. If I can find this I would buy like 5 of them.

chinavision!, Monday, 11 April 2016 14:10 (ten years ago)

wait maybe I'll just get this instead http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=80569966&cp=1760781.1760811&ab=tn_men_cs_pants&parentPage=family

chinavision!, Monday, 11 April 2016 14:12 (ten years ago)

feel like the problem with =frank and oaks collars isnt that theyre small its that they are shaped badly

้พœ, Monday, 11 April 2016 14:25 (ten years ago)

agree that different collars suit different face/body shapes differently

as a skinny, short person w/ a thin neck i appreciate smaller collars

ew lol, looks like a rusted bronze statue

de l'asshole (flopson), Monday, 11 April 2016 18:29 (ten years ago)

all my clothes are too small now. i bought them all super slim fitting and then was hit with a double whammy: the wash and fold people shrunk them all and i put on a bit of weight.

Treeship, Monday, 11 April 2016 18:31 (ten years ago)

i am looking forward to building a wardrobe, though, once my finances are in a position to do that.

hello stylish men, it's me, a visitor from another island.

i'm trying to buy a few suits (one for my upcoming declaration of eternal love and fealty, another for occasional occupational occasions), and i have a couple general sizing/tailoring questions.

the problems are related to my shape. i'm very skinny. here are my vital stats:

Neck: 14
Chest: 33 ยฝ
Waist: 29 ยฝ
Arm Length: 33
Pant Inseam: 29 ยฝ
Height: 5'9.5"
(STR: 5 CHA: 8 DEX: 16 LCK: 18 INT: 5 WIS: 4)

i've been told by very stylish men that j crew is a good option for skinny guy suits. my plan is to buy a few, get as close as i can with the sizes, and have a tailor make final adjustments.

i think i'm good on the shirt and pant sizing, but what size would you all recommend for the suit jacket? here's the j crew sizing chart: https://www.jcrew.com/sizecharts/main.jsp?sizeChart=0,5

no matter which size or style (regular, short, or long) i go with, one of chest, waist, or arm length is off. for example, if i go with size small (regular), the waist and arm length are right, but the chest is 1.5 too large. and of course, if i select a size based off of my terrible chest, the waist and arm length are way too small. i was also considering going with an XS ("long fit"), which works with the chest and arm length, but is too small on the waist.

so basically, i guess my question is which is easier for a tailor to fix: a chest that's too large, or a waist that's too small?

yes, i know that i should just set up an appointment with a team of hotshot specialists and just do this shit in person

How much are you looking to spend? Indochino may be a good option here if you can swing $450-500 for a whole suit

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 17 April 2016 20:55 (ten years ago)

i am willing to fork out $$ for the wedding suit, so up to around $1000 would be ok (more if the suit grants me special abilities)
