yeah that's it! i want all those colors. the pigment is genuinely superior to all other eyeshadows i have, which is kind of a lot.
― La Lechuza (La Lechera), Friday, 19 February 2016 19:01 (ten years ago)
i also would like to have more opportunities to wear it but that's another issue, lol
i need that in my life
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 19 February 2016 19:19 (ten years ago)
my face tends to look pretty tired and washed out in its natural state, so wearing some basic makeup makes me feel a lot more confident. but i work solo all week and half the time i can't be bothered putting in the effort on the weekend either.
i REALLY like owning nice makeup tho, i don't even care if i never wear it. i've got all this fancy charlotte tilbury and besame stuff on my gift wishlist bc i really don't want to spend money on it.
― just1n3, Friday, 19 February 2016 20:31 (ten years ago)
my holy grail is a true blue red lipstick - every red i've tried looks pink on my lips and it drives me crazy.
― just1n3, Friday, 19 February 2016 20:32 (ten years ago)
My other forum is a makeup/skincare forum. I haven't bought much new tbh but I'm more confident in knowing what I'm looking for and getting samples. I had this amazing bronzey glittery eyeshadow that I wore to a party and it looked ace, but I tried it in the day and with my super-pale skin I looked really ill :(
― kinder, Friday, 19 February 2016 21:28 (ten years ago)
true blue red is a tough one! as i recall, MAC has at least one. blue-red goes with my skin tone really well too - but since i've gone blond, a whole new spectrum of reds has opened up to me. not going to try for true orange-red tones though; that'll never ever work on me...

kinder what is the forum that you like?
wait that sounds kinda stalky but I really only know MUA, and there are probably others I should check out
― mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Saturday, 20 February 2016 14:37 (ten years ago)
ooh I saw a foil effect eyeshadow by stila today, looked amazingly dramatic but I put some on my finger and it turned into glitter that went *everywhere*. could be awesome with careful application though.
the forum is from the website of Guardian beauty columnist Sali Hughes, it's mainly v.sensible feministy women.

Although I sideye some of those Stila products being on that blog as if they're "nostalgic"--I'm pretty sure they were still sold in like 2014.

I give you...my entire high school when I was in jr high and idolized everyone associated with drummers, such as my babysitter with big hair who dated one and wore his class ring.

i got the ariana grande viva glam and i regret itit's impossible to applyi'm gonna blame that on my hand tremor i guessit got me searching up how those MUA types get their lips so perfect and there's like 800 stepsi'm too lazyand tbh i love all those bold a f lipsticks that exist now but i feel like a self conscious fucko trying to rock them in public
― the lava-staring club (Abbott), Tuesday, 12 July 2016 00:20 (nine years ago)
i should just face my fears and DO ITno one is gonna care if i show up to pub trivia w/black-brown-purple-mauve lips
The best thing about wearing bold makeup is not having to see it when you're wearing it (unlike a skirt or pair of boots or w/e) bc it's on yr face
Unless you look in the mirror constantly, imo wearing bold lipstick is a good exercise in being less self-conscious
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 12 July 2016 00:24 (nine years ago)
i have mastered bold red pink orange BRIGHT colors but i feel like dark lips are so much harder to keep on and looking goodall the more reason to get down w it i guessi am all about facing dumb fears this summer

I've been using these Directions hair colours to try and make my hair rose gold (because I can only really get behind hair trends when literally everyone is doing them), but they generally suck, so I tried a slightly different shade just now and my hair is straight up fuchsia. People are definitely going to think this is an attempt at a Pokemon cosplay thing.
black-brown-purple-mauve lips sounds amazing.

I totally fucked my hair in May when i decided to go lavender. And am now a brassy blonde over about 2/3 of my hair. It looks pretty bad but otoh I like the texture and body bleaching has given my hair.
Rose gold is so pretty! I like those lighter weird shades a lot.
― just1n3, Sunday, 17 July 2016 14:44 (nine years ago)
I had so nearly attained perfect rose gold! Maybe I'll get there in 4 weeks or something... I really need a haircut too but my/all hairdressers always tell me off so bad when I dye my hair an intense colour.
What colour is the remaining 1/3 of your hair? Lavender is the nicest but my hair isn't quite pale enough to carry it and bleaching it would be the end for my hair altogether.
― It certainly is punk of the Church of England to think that way (tangenttangent), Sunday, 17 July 2016 16:40 (nine years ago)
Im avoiding my hairdresser bc I know he's gonna shake his head at what I did.
The other third is my natural mousy brown. My hair grows pretty fast but I also slapped the bleach on pretty haphazardly. I meant to go for streaks but instead it turned into big uneven chunks.
― just1n3, Sunday, 17 July 2016 17:31 (nine years ago)
j I'm in the process of rebounding too! At the moment it's all I've blonde on the top and sides and the rest is orange creamsicle. 6 boxes of hair dye down probably 3 to go.

ulta gave me a birthday sample of Lancôme's "Monsieur Big" mascaraholy fuckmight be the best one i've ever used. barely two coats & they look like lightweight falsies :D if they make a waterproof version then i will never use another mascara again
also finally on the estee lauder doublewear train!fuckin magic holy shit idk if homo ii even posts here anymore but i should have jumped on this all those years ago she was so right omg still figuring out best primer & tweaking my application technique but i love the staying power & i havent broken out once
― Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 26 June 2017 06:18 (eight years ago)
ooh! I'm always looking to try new mascaras.also why don't british companies give birthday samples of nice things :( I've got loads of sephora points and samples and stuff to collect if I ever go back to the US!
I tried a primer called PUR Correcting Primer and it was pretty good. Not silicony, think it might have mild AHAs in. Otherwise I use Smashbox but that's way silicony. In other news I use UD eyelid primer every day now because it actually takes less time to get eyeliner on properly with it.
― kinder, Monday, 26 June 2017 09:46 (eight years ago)
yeah that UD primer is awesome

Just popping on here to say I still love ilx/ils and that since this borad chronicles makeup loves, incl my discovery of the importance of blush, I’ll admit that it took me until a couple of years ago to make doing my eyebrows a priority - like, I always prioritized mascara but now brows matter more! I don’t even remember if I’ve said this here before but eesh, eyebrows, such a revelation. And I do a very basic brow.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 31 January 2018 19:46 (eight years ago)
I got one of those Anastasia eyebrow things awhile ago. I rarely do my brows but I like it when I do. I think I look like that evil cartoon baby that smokes cigars.
― Yerac, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 20:25 (eight years ago)
yeah I got some NYX eyebrow gel stuff, but I have pretty thick eyebrows already and it made me feel like groucho marxI stopped using the gel and now I just groom my eyebrows with an old mascara brush more before I go out.
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 00:55 (eight years ago)
plus I wear glasses so after i go to all the trouble of 'doing' my brows, no-one can hardly see them anyway lol
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 00:56 (eight years ago)
Ahahaha cigar smoking baby brows! I want them :DI do wish my brows came in thicker also because I’d have an excuse to go to one of many eyebrow threading places in my neighbourhood and get my dream brow created (it’s this more straight angle, almost no arch but still elevated? I don’t know but my brow seems incapable.) I think they’d just laugh at me right now.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 1 February 2018 03:24 (eight years ago)
My next makeup goal is: actually doing an “eyeshadow look” Eyeshadow still seems like a lot of work, like the most work, when it comes to makeup. By the time I get to eyes I’m ready to be done, so mascara and maybe liquid eyeliner it is.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 1 February 2018 03:28 (eight years ago)
i love eyeshadow the most!!my discovery that isnt really earthshattering but works 100% of always:find 2 colors you lovedo your lid in the darker, and then the outside edge/corner in the lighter colorget a fat blender brush and blend til you like itif you think the dark color’s too dark, just blend it til it’s lighter. blending RULESthen when you get fancy you can do 3 or 4 colorsbut make it colors you love, that are good to work with & good pigments
― Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 1 February 2018 04:35 (eight years ago)
VG your eyeshadow is always excellent :) good pigments otm
after i got a gift card for my many years of service at work, i went to ulta and blew it all on hair putty, eyeliner, and this giant urban decay eyeshadow pallette with 20 metallic eyeshadows. they are so fun. i wear a different one every day. half of them are neutrals and the other half are really saturated colors. i think the gold is my favorite, but don't underestimate dark red for nighttime!

While I don't love the other makeup I've bought from them (I'm a sucker and want to love it because I like the packaging but I've just not been wowed by anything else) I really like Glossier's Brow Boy.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 1 February 2018 14:49 (eight years ago)
my eyeshadow game changer was the Urban Decay Electric palette that i bought a few years back. Basically Aladdin Sane colors & metallics :D

I was trying to find the specific cartoon baby that I was envisioning and did not realize that so many people draw crazy eyebrows on their baby...
