Ledbury sale on sweaters fwiw, add'l 20% off sale sweaters. I picked up another v-neck for $60 bc I was happy with the first one. Styling is just a hair conservative -- somehow looks more DC than NYC -- but quality is very nice.

Well I live in DC and those color options on the ledbury sale sweaters page made me cry from boredom

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/11/fashion/new-york-fashion-week-smartphones-killing-off-runway-show.html

Interviews with dozens of retailers, editors, designers and private individuals over the last few weeks suggest that women are experiencing product fatigue. After being inundated by images and live streams from runway shows, from awards shows where the items are worn mere days after they appear on the runway, and from ad campaigns (and the making of ad campaigns), by the time these customers see the clothes in stores, the dresses and skirts and suits seem tediously familiar. Old. Over....

...“Social media is the laxative of the fashion system,” said Scott Galloway, the founder and chairman of the digital consultancy L2. “It makes everyone digest everything much faster: trends, product discovery.”

The digital world has schooled an entire generation — called the IWWIWWIWI generation (I want what I want when I want it) by the New York consultancy Open Mind Strategy — in immediate gratification.

So glad we don't have this problem amirite, my dudes

A friend of mine was over and I half-jokingly pulled the FUCK YEAH MENSWEAR book off the shelf, we looked at a few pages and I realized oh man the looks in this book are kind of played out - I don't even know what that means, but I thought it, and then today I realized I really miss the Georgetown Benetton

I have the navy, which is more of a medium blue, and I bought a burgundy. They look sharp with a dress shirt under and the fit is perfect for me. Good for the office, hard to imagine wearing elsewhere.

i mean...they're layering pieces. they're not supposed to be exciting.

I sometimes like my sweater to be the exciting layer in a white-blue-green cake (burgundy necktie)

thrift stores in tokyo have really nice and pretty cheap barely worn vintage sneakers, like adidas and nikes from the 80s. sadly japanese people also apparently have small feet and i couldn't find anything above size ten >:(

Oh yes. I like the straight hem. That's almost EXACTLY the same as my old ruined one!

totally agree about the straight hem

they didn't have my size so i went a little big and im happy w/ that, it says slim fit but its actually kind of boxy and i'd rather have it that way, definitely more jacket than shirt

marcos, Wednesday, 17 February 2016 15:37 (ten years ago)

hi guys just caught up on a few weeks of ils mens thread

  • shawl collars are like anything else, they can be cool or they can be stupid. i have a shawl collar grey sweatshirt from j crew that i love
  • i like my jack erwins (the mitch) BUT they took a very long time to break in AND i shredded through the soles in under 4 months (i wore them 5 days a week and i prob walked an average of 2 miles a day in them) bit the bullet and got them re-soled with something a little thicker and they are great now
  • i placed an "order" with meermin mallorca like 4 months ago and was never asked for a credit card, just got a message saying an email would come soon w/ payment information. 2 days ago i got an email from themn apologizing saying my shoes wouldnt be ready for 20 more days
  • i have 4 suits from indochino (3 of which i bought in 2015) and i really like them. if you keep an eye on their website/emails, they have 50% off sales all the time, so their $800 suits are gonna be $400 in a week or two, and they are better than anything you'll find with a $400 price tag on it at a department store. great customer service, too.

gr8080, Friday, 19 February 2016 00:10 (ten years ago)

another resounding indochino recommendation! I STILL have not bought a suit yet but I have a wedding in September and I think I'm gonna wind up going w/ them, esp since they have a showroom nearby where I can check stuff out IRL

people in the area i've moved to dress so badly. i thought moving to a city meant i would have to up my style game, but i feel like a dandy just leaving the house. clothes shops are crap too - either supremely expensive designer outlets where the jeans cost £400 or really disappointing high street shops with lacklustre selections.

where are you living?

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:11 (ten years ago)

bristol. think i posted a pretty funny street-style article ITT a few months back where everyone's like 'I got this t-shirt form a fun-run I did, and these leggings are by Peacocks'

i never really feel surrounded by one type of fashion, good or bad. apart from in some parts of new york i guess. though i walked through soho at lunch and with london fashion week there were definitely has a lot of overcoats, minimal white sneakers and those tiny ipad manbag wallet things.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:18 (ten years ago)

whoa that was garbled. you get the idea.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:19 (ten years ago)

i used to work in Kings X near St Martin's College so you got a lot of extremely fashionable arts students walking around. Even in provincial Herts when I go back though, I'm kind of amazed at the difference in how people dress. It's a gentrification maelstrom there though.

draxx them sklounst (dog latin), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:21 (ten years ago)

i live in east london and i never really see people dressed in a high fashion way, though it's clear the people are hipsters of some stripe.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:25 (ten years ago)

Yeah high fashion isnt really a thing except for well funded japanese students, although round my way people obvious still care a decent amount.

I just went to see my mum in the small town in Berkshire i grew up in though and basically noone seems to care and the town centre getting a Jack Wills seemed to be a big development and i wanted to rush back to Dalston.

a hoy hoy, Friday, 19 February 2016 17:38 (ten years ago)

(Im not usually a snob, i just wasnt in a good mood for a family visit amd found those around me obnoxious cos of my mood as much as their lack of fashion cares)

a hoy hoy, Friday, 19 February 2016 17:39 (ten years ago)

you can probably go in there & get measured/fitted and have them save all of it to a profile/account for free; then you can keep an eye on the website until you see something you really like/they have a big sale etc.

that's what i did when they had a pop-up shop here

gr8080, Saturday, 20 February 2016 22:57 (ten years ago)

I also need to lose a bit of weight tbh... :-/

Recommendation request:

I want slim-fit herringbone wool pants that can successfully be worn casually (with like a t-shirt or untucked buttondown I guess). Thicker wool is fine (preferred even) but they gotta be slim cut bcz my legs are too tiny for words. I'm fine w/ buying like suit pants for this but a) they tend to be so thin which makes me worry abt durability; i am used to jeans 24/7 b) so expensive!! c) will suit pants look strange if worn totally casual?

police patrol felt the smell of smoke and found that goat burns (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:47 (ten years ago)

do you insist on wool?

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:48 (ten years ago)

I mean I guess not, idgaf what material they are as long as they are pants that look just like this:

http://epauletnewyork.com/products/ends-for-friends-rivet-chino-flannel-tweed

check out end 65.

plan on getting whatever you end up with tailored to the slimness you desire. also a good wool herringbone will be thick and durable af.

call all destroyer, Monday, 22 February 2016 21:13 (ten years ago)

damn those are great but are just as expensive as suiting pants, it's v difficult for me to drp $175 (or even $100) on pants

police patrol felt the smell of smoke and found that goat burns (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:17 (ten years ago)

yeah i hear ya, not sure where the inexpensive herringbone trousers are at tbh. i did check lands end as they occasionally do slim fit with interesting fabrics, but nothing at the moment.

call all destroyer, Monday, 22 February 2016 21:21 (ten years ago)

Would recommend Cos, I have mad skinny legs also and their stuff works fine dressed up or down.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:22 (ten years ago)

you could definitely straight up check the racks at macys etc. but i worry that anything you find will not be slim enough to suit you, even after tailoring.

call all destroyer, Monday, 22 February 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)

cos is a good call but they don't seem to have anything that fits the bill right now

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:46 (ten years ago)

most of the brands i like seem to be doing nothing be leisurewear stuff rn tbh

i have a couple of pairs of norse projects wool trousers that fit quite slim and have proved very durable. unfort they no longer seem to make them :/

$ (Lamp), Monday, 22 February 2016 22:20 (ten years ago)

topman would defo have skinny fits - quality (and all other elements) can vary but might be worth a look, esp if you want herringbone.

i had a pair from there a few years ago that are almost exactly like the pic.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 22 February 2016 22:22 (ten years ago)

I posted in the JEANS thread but I am like extra wary re: durability rn bcz the UNIQLO jeans I bought developed a hole in the rear back pocket where my wallet is in less than a year (they were "stretch selvedge" that was 2% spandex, though, which is maybe why).
